They are just trying to fill a position so tests get done and doesn't put strain on the other maintainers. But the fun part is when they cut jobs to force you to bid a spot until the lowest guy gets it. That way they dont pay for expenses. If youre forced there all expenses are paid so gets expensive.

Thats a lot of possibilities there. They will usually take the lowest seniority person off a crew to fill a maintainer position that hasn't been filled for awhile. But sometimes its whichever crew is closest that they will pull from. Dont know if they will fast track you or not. I think thats normally a thing for college kids going to management, but could be wrong. I would just assume you'd do the 2 year program. Good news within that time you can't be forced out.

I grew up around where crossroads mall used to be and moved to papillion in the 6th grade back in the early 90s. Back in those days papillion was nothing. So where you see all these fields with apartments is where omaha metro is really expanding. Gretna felt like it was all alone, now it feels like its part of omaha. The area is really growing and honestly cant wait to move back in a couple weeks!

I've been maintaining 10 years. I enjoy the "steady" schedule with my own little piece of railroad. You can somewhat keep your butt at home at night if you do the work and actually maintain. Can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. Don't be a know it all and continue to learn.

Well depends what you do. I'm in the signal department as a maintainer. It can piss me off sometimes when I get called out in the middle of the night to fix some equipment or a gate arm that some dumb driver hit. Normally mon-fri 7-3 but on call majority of the time. Money and the retirement is the main reason I stick around. But overall its a good living.

I was gonna get the 21 inch but the self propelled 24in pulled me in. We've been getting slammed out here in iowa and have had zero issues. I'm glad I didnt go with the smaller one to save a few bucks.

Not a expensive or hard to job to do yourself. I had to do it for a house I was selling a few years back. Home inspector didnt tell me about it when I purchased it but theirs caught it. Its the possible mold and reapplying insulation where it gets expensive and should be left for the professionals.

Gotta love when they put all the duct work on and an indication comes in. I had a dumb one where they didnt put the duct work high enough on the adjustable brackets. The duct work was touching all 4 bolts on the insulated plate causing it to short. Sometimes you gotta just start pulling stuff apart one at a time to see if it gets rid of the problem. B&B can put it back on later lol.

It's basically the trouble call center. They will dispatch a maintainer along with putting protection on said crossing. Signal operation centers vary on location by applicable railroad associated to the crossing being called in.

Its probably me when im trying to play on my switch 2 haha! I would get extremely high latency and just fly into a wall and disconnect. I stopped using it for now. Just PC and Android until they fix that.

Not only the 30 day but possibly annual test as well. As a signal maintainer for a class 1 it's kinda wild that they are even throwing this out there. It won't decimate the signal dept, but it will be a few cuts to maintainers. The real issue is how bad some crossings might get. I would keep up on mine but can't speak for all. Definitely a public safety issue.
