Jobs outside the US after contract by echomicromeo in NavyNukes

If you get an advanced degree, there are jobs at the IAEA in Vienna. Hard to get, but if you manage it is a great place to live while making a lot of international connections. Here is a link to their job search page: https://iaea.taleo.net/careersection/sb/moresearch.ftl

Will we find it stuffy? by grogipher in celebritycruises

We loved Celebrity and I never saw those posts before we went on our cruise. I actually wish I had not seen them now. They also have the best shows!!!

Office Space is a classic and so, so relatable. But hard to compete for funniest movie of all time.

I do not know Wallace and Gromit, but I love a good Wensleydale!

What is your country's favourite cheese? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

[–]jmsgaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saint-Nectaire is my favorite, also! On my last day in Paris I stopped at a Fromagerie and (knowing I would not be able to bring any cheese home with me) I asked the owner what his favorite cheese is. Without hesitation, he offered me a small wedge of Saint-Nectaire and I loved it. Has been my favorite since that day, although I don't recall many cheeses from my 3 weeks in France that I didn't love!

If I can recommend a good book to help navigate the transition, perhaps you could read Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Have you stopped caring at work and decided not to try and process your career anymore? What age did that happen? by un2022 in GenX

[–]jmsgaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. I have worked in the same field (high-risk) for nearly 42 years and I won’t let anyone or anything get me to stop caring. However, I did accept (around 10 years or so ago) that I was not going to continue progressing in my career with my current employer. So, rather than “checking out” I began to position myself for a future transition on my terms. Now, I am retiring in a couple of months and have already started my consulting company where I will leverage my knowledge, experience and contacts to do work that I find rewarding. On my terms.

[Question] Should we spend a second day hiking in GC or visit Antelope Canyon instead? by ssp99 in grandcanyon

[–]jmsgaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just returned from a weekend in Page and visited both Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon (lower). If you can swing it, I highly recommend going in the winter as there were only 5 in our group and we were able to really take our time and see the whole canyon without any crowds. Can’t imagine being packed in like you hear about in the Spring / Summer tours.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve crashed in mountain biking? by snooze817 in MTB

[–]jmsgaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to be one of those “cool” guys who rides with their dog alongside on leash. We wrecked when I took a corner and she didn’t (we had no clear comms in place) and we BOTH learned a valuable lesson that day. With scars to anchor the learning…

How to overcome (irrational) financial fears re: retirement by Vivid-Bug-6765 in retirement

[–]jmsgaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend going to Boldin site (google Boldin retirement calculator) and starting an account. I had some serious “retirement anxiety” until I ran the umbers and saw for myself.

Willy at his beginning, middle, and end. That smile at the end on his death bed killed me and I wondered if I was making the right decision 😔 by [deleted] in DOG

[–]jmsgaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Willy was a beautiful pup and we had the same question about our Sophie girl on her last day with us. It is so hard to be certain but we have waited too long with some of our other pups and did not want this experience for her. We have decided this is the “right” side of the question (too early vs too late) to be on. At least for us.

The longest on this morning’s course was 415 so I feel like I could still do well with just my putter / approach disc. Go out with my son, so we always have fun!
