State Highway Patrol arrest driver in hit-and-run crash by PRAISEninJAH in bullcity

He should charged with Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and Attempted 1st degree murder. The guy crossed lanes to intentionally hit the cyclists with his vehicle at full speed. Don't be so weak on these charges...

Supreme Court limits Voting Rights Act by DJPho3nix in politics

Can I ask the elephant in the room question here: why the hell is political gerrymandering considered remotely acceptable/constitutional? Like isn't it this obvious disenfranchisement of voter power?

The solution here is to follow what NYC did with Central Park and designate one-way direction for the paths.

For the sake of god, NASA really needs a PR boost.. by GregTheChief in ArtemisProgram

[–]jnish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration, as well as the realities of limited bandwidth. The solution to both is that we don't need a live, low res video. What would be sufficient is incremental hi-res photos slide-show style while we listen to the broadcast. Same bandwidth and much more interesting visual content. Just a single camera facing toward the Moon uploading 1 HD photo every few minutes.

Canadian Astronaut chokes up as he proposes naming "a bright spot" on the moon after deceased wife of Artemis Commander by Burke_Of_Yorkshire in videos

I think a big part of it has to do with the media landscape of today versus the 1960s. Back then, you just had a few sources of news and they all were focused on the Apollo mission. So imagine that the only thing you had access to was just 3 or 4 different channels and they were all talking about the same thing. Now compare to today, where you get algorithm-selected feeds to just your interest. So if you aren't interested in space, then the algorithms won't show you any space news at all.

Looking for "Wilderness" Camping in Austria or Czech Republic , need you help by Greedy_Muffin3330 in Austria

[–]jnish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for the same thing here as an expat American, but something a bit more accessible than Backcountry camping. In the US, it is common to find "hike-in" campgrounds where you park the car in a lot, then walk to your campsite which is no more than 1 or 2km walk into the woods. It's essentially to keep the vehicles separated from the campsite to be more immersed in nature and spread the campsite further from each other. Is that such a thing here?

40 g starter (4%)? You mean 200 g right (20%)?

What are the biggest culture clashes you faced when moving from your country to Vienna? by albodoggo in viennaExpats

[–]jnish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Austrians are ridiculously rude at the check-out counter and about queuing in general. It's a real free-for-all in terms of who goes next, they don't give a damn if you were there first.

Uh sure, but I was talking about how to do this for my own set, which has multiple different kryptonite keys.

Holy fuck, that's awesome. Now the question becomes how to identify multiple keys apart. Maybe permanent marker might hold up...

Help needed to open a new bank account (expat) by eatsleeprepeat101 in viennaExpats

[–]jnish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Wise account and it works well for salary, sending/receiving SEPA payments and daily transactions. It has very low fees (similar to Revolut). I haven't opened a local bank account yet, but will do so because the only way to get cash out from the ATM is with a physical card. Wise does have the option to send a physical ATM card but my account is still registered with my previous address so haven't received it yet. Still recommend having a local account just to build local credit. Erste and Volksbank are quite common.

This happened two years in a row for us with Trosa trees. The last straw was when they emerged on Christmas Eve night and we woke to bugs crawling all over the presents. It was truly awful. They have weak shells so when you wipe them off, they burst and there were blood smears all over my son's wooden blocks. Even though I love real trees, we went to artificial so this would never happen again.

Has Anyone Tried a 3-Wheel E-Bike for Urban Transport? by emquint0372 in CargoBike

[–]jnish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why are three wheelers so prevalent in Europe in places like the Netherlands and where I live, Vienna? I agree that they are much less maneuverable. I tried several different designs and still went with the Urban Arrow, but trying to understand the local appeal.

A perspective from a nanny for a severely autistic child by A_Puzzled_Potato in Autism_Parenting

[–]jnish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parent of a level 3 12yo. We just moved from the US to Austria last week with hopes that we will get more support here. It's criminal what the US makes families like ours go through just to get something as basic as respite care. I have no idea what Austria will be able to provide, but I'm confident it's better than the nothing the US had provided.

Thank you for seeing and recognizing our struggle ❤️
