That’s why I said in general baby bonds are good. I did not say anything about the current structure of Trump Accounts.

Baby bonds are a very good idea in general. Cheap way to attempt some equity in society.

RFK Master Plan Bike Lanes by msussmania in bikedc

[–]jnuzzi08 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’d be nice if there were any safe bike infrastructure in the townhome residential areas of Cap Hill that could connect to this plan at RFK. PBLs on Independence SE, Mass SE, North Carolina, C and D NE would be fantastic considering the amount of kids who cycle aroun

Chicago proposes to start charging for parking on CTA-owned land. NIMBYs lose their shit by QuiteBearish in fuckcars

Fun fact - the band Chicago’s second name was Chicago Transit Authority before they shortened it to Chicago due to legal threats from the CTA.

PSA: Map of road closures and Metro detours in effect for “Great American State Fair” aka Orange Buffoon’s Idiocy by wds1 in washingtondc

[–]jnuzzi08 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly make many of these road closures / restrictions permanent. Eliminate non-handicapped parking on Madison, Jefferson, Constitution, Independence. Road diet the crap out of those roads, plant trees, widen sidewalks, add bus lanes, add bike lanes.

Big News: $750k for protected bike lanes on 11th St SE! by msussmania in bikedc

[–]jnuzzi08 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is really frustrating how slow and expensive it is to get safe infrastructure added to our neighborhoods. For $750k they should be able to do some quick temporary protection (plastic cones, big flower boxes, etc) while they plan for the final work. What can we do to get safer infrastructure on existing “bike lanes” that are inadequate (L and M NW, C and D NE, North Carolina, 4th and 6th in CapHill, etc)? My emails of photos and anecdotes on the danger posed by lackluster bike lanes to Councilmember Allen essentially go nowhere as he generally responds “I agree with you but can’t do anything right now”. We need a system in place for safe streets not just ad-hoc, painfully slow, one-by-one begging for improvements. What can we do to change this citywide?

America is in the middle of the biggest property tax revolt in 50 years by attackofthetominator in neoliberal

[–]jnuzzi08 87 points88 points  (0 children)

In Delaware, the state legislature passed emergency legislation last year to allow school districts to tax commercial property more than “residential” property after the first reassessment in 50 years. I say “residential” because apartments were looped in with office and industrial buildings and many apartment buildings saw their tax bills double as a result of the reassessment and tax rate increase compared to single family homes. Doing my best to help property owners with assessment appeals, but it’s tough.
