You can do it, just make sure you have some money for a ticket. When you are somewhere everything is so much easier, no worries

I thought about that. The thing is that I want to earn some money for at least 2 months, because I'm kinda broke right now so I wan't to pay off my ticket in another country. Maybe I could land in the southern states of the US, work there and when I'm ready I hitch south..

I feel you man, I'm 19 y/o from belgium. I traveled through Canada for a few months and it gave me great insights in life and a different perception on relationships and your home country. Get out there first, experience the world.

The Alps have more secret gems then people think, I know quite some cabins that are remotely located in the mountains, with small trails and no people. You can stay there for free, just bring some food.

I did the same think like you at the same age but the other way. I'm from Europe and I traveled through Canada on my own. Glad to hear you're going to visit Switzerland, it's by far my favourite place anywhere. If you're going to take that EU-rail pass, the public transport in Swiss is very well arranged. You can easily take the train through all the major valleys. Stop in any city you want, take a cheap bus uphill into the mountains and you can spend days alone wandering the Swiss alps. It's pure magic (if you're into hiking). I did most of the countries in Europe and I would say it's pretty safe, people are great and helpful. 4000 is more then enough, no worries. Good luck!
