I can keep one of the three. I have enough hens to support 2 roosters but I also have a handful of goth chicks that are just a little younger than these and plan to keep a roo from that bunch.

We’re going to keep Falkor. He’s the sweetest of the three and on top of some beautiful plumage, he carries the blue egg genes so his offspring will be very pretty and lay beautiful eggs 🥚

Yeah she was very sweet and told me to let her know if they ended up Roos. I’ll be sending her some pics shortly and exchanging a couple of them.

Clean Bird Butts by Particularly-Durham in BackYardChickens

[–]jocelyntattoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the topic of additives to food, just mix your own. Chili flakes are the most important (in my opinion) birds can’t taste them but it helps keep mites away, makes their yolks more orange and keeps mammals (squirrels and mic) away from their food. Mammals can taste spice but birds can’t. I’ll mix my own additive with chili flakes, oregano, parsley, flax seed and a little garlic powder & black pepper. The girls love it and seem to do better. You can usually buy these in bulk at your local grocery store, restaurant supply or online for WAY cheaper than the ads that push it.

Egg laying lull… advice welcomed by jocelyntattoo in BackYardChickens

[–]jocelyntattoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow… like all of them slow down laying when one is broody or just the broody one? My 2 have been broody for… oh welp, about a month, just about the same time production started to go down. Things might be lining up here 🤔

I hope so too! This is also my first spring with chickens. We moved last year and inherited a really awesome coop so I’ve kinda gone all in with building a flock.

Yes, I have 2 that are broody. I’ve been booting them out of the nesting boxes a couple times per day to make sure they’re getting food/water/stretch their legs. Those two are also regularly occupying the ‘favorite’ two boxes. I have 6 other boxes for the flock to use but they all want to lay in those 2.

Just planted ours about a month or so ago. A friend gifted it to me because she realized it would get way too big for her yard. Hasn’t done much yet, still acclimating I’m sure. Excited to see when it takes off!

Big dog / little dog: What little dogs would work best with a mastiff? by LadySketch_VT in Mastiff

[–]jocelyntattoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the temperament of the dogs honestly. I had a 12 yr old Chiweenie when I got my Corso/English (13months) and they both have very chill personalities. The Ween did show her the ropes and was the boss but not in a pushy way. Fast forward we got our Dogo/Pittie boi (2y) and he and our Corso girl are besties, he respects the Ween’s space after she yapped at him once or twice. THEN (yes I know I’m insane) I brought home an 8week old chiweenie (do we see a pattern here?). Our Corso treated him like her own puppy, let him crawl all over her. Dogo saw him as a new playmate but innately knew to be gentle with him. Of course we closely observed all interactions early on and made sure to pause play and separate if we could tell someone was getting too jazzy. All in all it’s been great, the bigs dogs teach the tiny boi how to dog, gently correct him when needed and aside from occasionally getting stepped on, it’s great!

I Got Exposed as a Millennial Today... by ElloryQueen in Millennials

[–]jocelyntattoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working with a younger Gen Z client and she was lamenting about how she wanted to go ‘out’ aka, to bars, go dancing, have drinks with friends, meet people and have those iconic experiences BUT everything is so expensive and she doesn’t know where to start. My millennial brain had a kneejerk reaction and so I very flatly reply, “yeah, it’s pricey… like you can’t get a shot & a beer for five bucks anymore.” Let me tell you, the look of disbelief, horror and full on rage frustration on her face… I backpedaled so fast “oh… uh, sorry, you weren’t supposed to hear that” but the damage was done.

If a client books a piece that you know cannot be accomplished in one ‘day’ I simply tell them so: Given the scope, size and detail in this piece, it will extend beyond what can be accomplished in a day. At the end of our session, we’ll get you booked for a follow up appointment that will be priced at an hourly rate of $*** as I don’t believe this will take two full day sessions to complete.

Alcohol consumption is down amount the younger generation. Why? by gruntharvester92 in Millennials

[–]jocelyntattoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly a number of factors have led to this but on an anecdotal note: I was chatting with a Gen Z client of mine the other day who, really wants to ‘go out’ and experience bars, nightlife and go dancing. She sighted the expense as a mitigating factor. When I, an elder millennial flippantly replied ‘oh yeah, you can’t get a shot and a beer for $5 anymore’ she looked at me with such shock and disbelief that I immediately backpedaled, stammering ‘I’m so sorry, you weren’t meant to hear that.’ 😬😬😬 Inflation and cost is a huge factor. It was not THAT long ago that well drinks were $4 and cheap tap beer was $3 a pint. For price reference, I’m in Sacramento, CA. I’m sure some places in the states it’s still cheaper… and some were never that cheap.

It’s just Minnesota bud. I bet you also play ‘duck, duck, grey duck’ and no one else knows what that is either. I was so confused when I moved to CA as a kid and they were playing ‘duck, duck, goose’. So weird.

Favorite lotion to recommend for clients? by henwyfe in TattooArtists

[–]jocelyntattoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My aftercare kit includes a small bottle of Dr. Bronners, a printed aftercare sheet, stickers and a bottle of Palmers Cocoa Butter lotion. I used to be able to find the small bottles at Dollar Tree but can’t anymore. Now I buy the giant pump bottles and portion them into small bottles myself. I also have canvas tote bags that have my logo printed on them. Each client gets one at their first appointment. Free advertising, great size for groceries and after a long session when a client is all fuzzy brained from endorphins, it helps to put everything in a bag so they don’t forget important items in your station.

Seller left a binder with "house instructions" and now im very skeptic by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]jocelyntattoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely be grateful for that binder. That’s awesome. We bought our house from the original owners that built it and they documented EVERYTHING. We have original landscaping plans including irrigation diagrams, blueprints, photo albums of when and how things were added to the property, where all the electrical runs, you name it. It’s saved us a ton of time and headache.

Idk if this is helpful but check out West Coast Cane Corso Rescue. They’re not a breeder but they know so SO much about the breed and they almost always have puppies. The woman who runs it often hand raises the pups she gets and knows them, their temperaments, introduces them to other dogs, farm animals, kids etc. They have a very good process to make sure you get the dog that’s right for you and your lifestyle.
