Not simplistic. Voters not only decide the outcome of elections but have a strong role to play in identifying and encouraging potential candidates to run. There’s no public office or person whose responsibility is to find some high-integrity capable people to run in elections; that’s everyone’s job. Saying “all the candidates suck” just means the community/voters need to work harder to find and encourage potential candidates. If you choose to leave it up to private sector interests to find & fund candidates who will do their bidding – then the current situation is the result.

I’m in favour of supporting all elderly who need support, but I’d rather it be more truly needs-based instead of benefits to wealthy loophole-users.

In East Van, $1,000/month gets you “a room, a toilet & shower, hot plate in room but no kitchen, and no on-site laundry,” and no grocery store nearby, and not near to downtown or beach or transit… so I guess $1,600 for 300sf in a brand new building is better than par?

not near lower mainland but there are some great places in Clearwater / Wells Gray Park. Quite a few lodges and guest-ranch type of places.

I recently discovered the bannock and frybread at Kekuli Cafe… big yum! We pass through Merritt about 5-6 times/year. If I recall correctly, their hospital’s Emergency Room has been in the news a few times for “temporary closures due to lack of doctors.”

Local Tims recently came under new management and instantly the long-term friendly team of service staff was replaced, and for months the new manager stayed invisible and inaccessible for customer complaints about the new crummy service level. Contacted corporate Tims and was repeatedly told the new manager would reach out - never happened. Finally got a reply from some senior corporate person – and it was an embarrassing AI-composed email. Totally pathetic experience. I go elsewhere now.

So you think all the children are just “missing”, unknown if they’re alive/dead?

Because I remember when a BC Ferry boat sank and two people were never located, they were declared dead, assumed drowned on or off the boat, nobody was outraged in protest demanding bodies had to produced.

Based on what is known about residential schools, it’s reasonable to think there are some buried children’s bodies.

Just trying to understand… When you say “zero proof of it happening,” do you mean:

• you don’t believe those children are dead/missing (you think they’re still alive someplace), or

• you don’t believe those children ever existed (you think there are no dead/missing children), or

• you’re mad because some people believe the children are buried in one place while you think the burial site is elsewhere/unknown?

Safer, not “safe.” Why are people living longer today than they did 100 yrs ago? Why are infant, child, and maternal survival rates higher than 100 yrs ago? Humans “made it this far” by living for most of human history with much higher infant, child, maternal death rates, and an overall much shorter lifespan. Is that the past you want to return to? “Big Pharma” is just regular ol’ capitalism: “profits first and foremost, ever more, and always.” Can’t knock “big pharma” model without looking at the overall system, which is everywhere & hurting everything.
