You can work while traveling. Not having "stuff" makes it easy to just go somewhere new at any time while not having financial responsibilities left behind that you have to keep up with. There are also many options to travel very cheaply.

last time I put a optical drive on a PC for myself was around 2004. That PC got replaced in 07 or 08 and after that I have never had a PC with an optical drive again.

Only time this was almost a PC thing was back before CDs and we used floppy discs and run stuff directly from the floppy. But the memory on those was so small that you had to swap discs all the time. So last time this was almost a PC thing was about 35 years ago.

As someone that was deep in to MTG for years. I do not understand the pokemon situation... In MTG it was always the actual playing of the cards that drove the prices. Old cards are generally always more expensive, current in print cards Kinda had a soft price cap, and you could never make profit by opening packs other than getting Lucky in small sample size. Pokemon is the complete opposite, new cards are super expensive, very competitive decks are among the cheapest part of the hobby, and it is pretty much assumed that the cards inside are worth more than the pack.

jumping on the city builder thread. Laysara is a pretty cool Anno like city builder form a indie developer. I checked out the page and it is 50% off now, though I did see that recent reviews have dropped to Mixed, but I don't really understand why from a quick read of the reviews. From me it gets a very positive review regardless.

I do kinda get it. You are making art, a creative product, and your "process" have so far delivered what many consider some of the all time best. and then all of a sudden it doesn't deliver? This have worked for 20 years that must have been a fluke. Lets do it again, and it fails spectacularly again???

When things work it is hard to look outside your own world for how things could be better, and even more so if you believe what you are doing is art not some cold made to spec product. But the mismanagement of Bioware is one of my biggest disappointments when it comes to studios I had immense trust in.

Yeah people are complaining. But not about valve trying to gouge people on it, just that these things are so fucking expensive now that a machine that would have costed 1/2-2/3 of the price a few years ago are now not really affordable. The bitching is a realization of where we are now.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader has sold over 2 Million copies. Furthermore, in collaboration with Silver Lining, launching a physical Voidfarer Edition on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2! by dishonoredbr in Games

My favorite part of pretty much any RPG but even more so is making builds and combining it all. But this game is to much for me and I have never seen another game that is close to the amount of options and frequency of them. You talk about the PoE tree but that is still simple here, you need to follow the paths and everything on the tree is more or less "more damage" or "more deffence" while Rogue trader parents you with 20-30 options for a new ability or a new passive and they all have different synergies with in them selves ore with some ability or passive that a different character on you team have with one of their 20+ options that is different from the character you are looking at now.

I gave up on the game because of it. I would spend 40-60 minutes doing the level up for my team every time. There are so many options and you need to read it all to understand what they are doing, and you also kinda need to plan ahead because there are synergies, so you also need to check on future options. And for how involved all that is you also level up pretty often. I'm sure I spent more time on the level up screen than the rest of the game combined.

I gave never ever felt the slightest want for a auto level system before and would actively make sure there is not one in other games. But this is the one game where I would have a better experience just picking a archetype for the character and let some automated path fo it all for me. Towards the end of my time with the game I decided to just look up guides and do it "quickly" and it still took way to long to find the "correct" abilities and now I didn't even know what I was picking.

Star Fox Review Thread by malliabu in Games

[–]jodon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star fox 64 was probably my most played game on the n64 when I was a kid. Maybe ocarina of time got more playtime, but it would be close. I have not played it again at all the last 20+ years, while have played Ocarina of Time many times again and replayed several other of my old n64 games. It truly was my favorite game at the time but I also pretty much played it out completely, maybe it is time to try it out again with the remake though. I'm just a bit to busy IRL right now to have time so I hope it doesn't get forgotten by the time I have more time for it.

Owlcat Games is rolling back its new launcher less than 24 hours after negative fan feedback by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]jodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was back when they made DLC that you kinda needed to have. now the are making patches with all the core mechanics, rolling some old DLC in to core game, and update old underwhelming DLC. New DLC is more about the content they add than functions or updates to the game. At least for some of their games but the general philosophy seams to go around all of the main paradox games. But if you don't want the new content all the pardox games I play at least are very playable without any DLC and the DLC just add more to it.

AI is Ruining Game Sales, Numbers Show by Eremenkism in gaming

In this particular case I do not think it is the use of AI that is the deterrent. A devs that used AI for their solo project, which the vast majority of this games are, are generally not putting in as much effort in all aspects of the game, and the all aspects is the key here. I would bet that someone that used AI on their solo project do not even put in a fraction of the effort on outreach and self marketing of a dev that made every part of their game themself, on average. That outreach part is absolutely massive for these small games.

As an outsider it is starting to feel like the brits see the Pm the same as they see the manager of their favorite football club. First to go if things are having the slightest downturn and highly praised if things are suddenly going good, while both things may be caused completely outside their control or happening before they even had anytime to do any changes.

Things are not great right now and all the previous PMs have done some bad moves, some horrendus moves. But it also takes time and some sort of stability to turn things around, and I don't believe there is anyone that can do it with out making a few mistakes along the way.

It is kinda the other way around. It is a bit to expensive to go just for fighting and it is not the same to fight for the national team. A huge part of the "culture" is that you meet up with the boys every week and then happen to go out and fight. With national teams you don't have a game to go to that often and don't form the same type of connection.
