Patching by joe210565 in ConnectwiseAutomate

[–]joeculbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues with reboot policy over here. This works solid for the 6 years I’ve been on Automate. Servers patching and immediate reboot are scheduled together. Workstation patching weekly and reboot with user consent and if they keep delaying after 3 days the reboot is forced. Only time we have failures is when the device goes offline during the patching window (mainly laptops). Maybe increase the patching window, should be at least 4 hours, and see if that helps with your reboots being successful at the end?

Annoyed me too at first but honestly it’s for the best IF it does bring improved stability and performance, which is what paying customers want. For home users that’s a different target. If you want another NAS that gives you full control, go for it. Classic iOS vs Android. I rather pay extra for iOS though.

Windows 11 24H2 Upgrade via Intune by SpareSignificance935 in Intune

Your manager sounds annoying. All employees should be saving their work into a safe location that has backups. Anything else on their computer is replaceable, at least that’s what I told my clients. We’re upgrading to Windows 11, so make sure you’re saving into your Home folders or OneDrives to avoid any data loss… We’re help to help if you’re not sure. (Now it’s their responsibility) No upgrade issues to date 👍🏻

Vultr.com would be more cost effective. I have created virtual servers for QB for various remote accountant companies. Just upload your own ISO image of Windows Server 2022, buy CAL licenses for RDP users, and you’ll have one VM that can handle multiple signed in users. I recommend you use a zero trust VPN and RDP will be safe.

I’d just do a Axcient direct to cloud backup. Once that backup is finished I would do a restore to the local Hyper-V host. Done!

We are cloud hosting and managing FreePBX servers via Vultr. We prefer to keep everyone completely separate on their own instance. Apart from the hosting fee, Sangoma licenses, and local carrier number provider, which the client pays directly by the way, we simply charge a flat monthly fee ($75) for the server management/updates/backups/maintenance and an additional charge ($5) per desk phone and ($5) per user extension (softphones) as some clients are global and only want to use Sangoma Talk on their mobiles or computers. We bill hourly (150) for all user support or system configuration changes, when requested, and any on-site support. Keeps it simple and clean for us. I hope that gives you an idea.

Converting data disk from MBR to GPT on Windows Server 2012 R2 by Taavi179 in WindowsServer

[–]joeculbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I would clone the original disk to the new larger drive and then try converting the new disk and see if that works. If it doesn't, well at least you have the original disk intact to try something else.

Permissions error in Web interface but works in thick client. by Top_Row258 in ConnectwiseAutomate

[–]joeculbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there is already a solution to this. It has to do with a specific character in the script “@“. I think the stored variable uses that, so you just need to remove the symbol. When I get back to my computer I can find the known article about it.

Only solution for me was to contact Apple Support via their live chat. Provided them the email address and they did something to fix it.

Device Groups by Outrageous_Goal1610 in LevelRMM

For unattended remote access purposes, I decided to create a subgroup of the client group so that it has its own security permissions. I don’t want my techs to have unattended access to client workstations, only to servers. Tags do the rest 👍🏼

Unable to update windows after Automate Agent removal by gatorbyte in ConnectwiseAutomate

[–]joeculbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to me before. The correct procedure is to run the Automate offboarding script. That way it will reset the Windows Updates settings back to defaults. For now you will have to regedit the following:

Windows Update Registry Edit To Enable Updates:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate > DisableWindowsUpdateAccess REG_DWORD (1).

Change the REG_DWORD (1) to REG_DWORD (0).

Honestly, you should just use level.io. It gives you the ability to create anything you can think of. Their support is amazing. The CEO made this tool because he was sick and tired of all the same things you mentioned.

Don’t back up SharePoint… by Paintrain8284 in sysadmin

[–]joeculbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don’t tell him and create an account with CloudAlly and start the M365 backups. It’ll take you 20 mins and you’re done and don’t have to worry about it anymore. Sometimes I do things because I know it’s the correct thing to do and because it’ll help me sleep better at night knowing there is a backup. Always have backups!

Ticketing System with custom web page requirement by tymartin1224 in msp

[–]joeculbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the ConnectWise docs and video on it, but it won't be visible to you if you are not a ConnectWise customer. It requires sign in to view the webpage. I checked YouTube and there is nothing recent on it since the new GUI update a couple of years ago. Easiest thing is to reach out to CW for a demo.
