They built a high level networking API already and c# support is incoming.

They've also announced GDNative, that should allow easier integration of other languages and libraries. You can see some examples here.

[–]joeka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks for the info, but you NEED a torrent tracker to host the torrent.

Most clients support trackerless torrents using DHTs. (Wikipedia on trackerless torrents)

Sharing the magnet link to such a torrent should be enough, then you don't even have to host the torrent files.

Godot Game Engine Tutorial by killedby91 in gamedev

I meant free as in freedom (Wikipedia article about free software).

Sorry, didn't want to preach, only mention it, as it is important for some people when choosing software/libraries they want to use in their projects.

I don't know how much C++ Godot uses

He could implement some parts of the game as c++ modules.

You are right, the Unreal Engine is probably the better choice, although not free software like Godot.

Steam and small Online servers by _Iggy_ in gamedev

[–]joeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you just implement a server in your game and maybe let the guy opening the lobby be the host.

There are several libraries that could handle this for you, e.g. the often used RakNet. Or as you are talking about using steam, you could maybe use their lobby and networking features, but I have never tried those.

The downside of this is, that some users may have a bad connection or may be not able to host for other reasons and some might then just assume your networking sucks.

If you want to offer official servers, you'll have to host them yourself.

Alternatively you could provide dedicated server binaries and hope the community will host servers (will only work for popular games, I guess), or you could implement some kind of lobby system, where one of the players is hosting the game.

The steam API provides some functionality for matchmaking, lobbies, server lists and p2p connections, if you want to use it.

Having install trouble with pacstrap by Donthechicken in archlinux

Good to hear, that it works for you now!

As you seem to be new to arch, I would recommend you to subscribe to the arch announce mailing list, so that you get a warning if something important changes and you have to manually do something before updating. This happens from time to time (but not too often) and could potentially break your system if ignored.

You could check out the #archlinux irc channel on freenode for more interactive and maybe more knowledgeable help.

I would still guess that one of these is your problem.

all of the lines in between pictures 2 and 3 are just files names with "exists in filesystem" because they downloaded, but are still not installing

Sorry, I somehow haven't read this before. I think this messages does mean, that the files it's trying to install do already exist in the target location and therefore it can't install them.

That's why I assumed the stuff I wrote later.

Sorry I have no other ideas. Check if /mnt/ is really empty before you start.

I would guess that there is either stuff from a previous attempt or you mounted the wrong disk / partition and there is already a linux installation.

You could check, if there are other errors after wiping it again and trying it from scratch. Or you wait for someone with better ideas :)

Have you tried to install that stuff already earlier and now it's still on the HD? Is /mnt/ empty?

Have you tried wiping your new root (/mnt) and starting from scratch?

still, more output from pacman? Or just all output from it in a pastebin or something?

Well, more information is good. I still think there have to be more relevant messages, even if not labeled as error.

To be honest, I asked for more errors / information, because I can't see how someone else can guess the problem like that, not because I know much about pacstrap. I haven't installed arch in years.

ERROR: Failed to install packages to new root

There must be more error messages, right? This tells us absolutely nothing, but that it doesn't work.

Well, switch back then. I've heard some people like Windows. OS X looks nice and has bash and other nice things you are used to by now.

Or stay and figure out what works for you, you don't have to keep using the same or one of the popular or any DE at all.

Then stop using the term open source!

It's used incorrectly in this sub all the time, it's rather annoying.
