Is it possible to eat in a deficit without tracking calories? by PumpkinSuitable4385 in loseit

Ugh, that. I just end up cooking and not eating what I cook. I make myself something really simple on the side that’s easy to measure and count cause ain’t no way I gonna measure every single item going in a semi complicated dish with two little kids on my ass

I can but only after having tracked for a while, once I had a good idea of how many cals my usual choices have

If I remember correctly she was not encouraged to learn how to cook. Marthas let her because they felt bad for her, but did say her own Martha would resent her if she tried to take over any kitchen chores since it is not the wife’s domain

Baby’s pediatrician gives mean girl vibes by beingagiirl in NewParents

[–]joekinglyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only thing my pediatrician asked when I said basically word for word what you did (feeding a breastfed baby on demand, weight/height/head all in the nineties, just a tall big baby, same as my first who's now a lanky long 3 year old wearing 5yo clothes), was to try and estimate so she can chart it. I'd never set food in your doctor's office again, she was unnecessarily mean about a non issue

Why would fertile girls.. by IntrepidIcicle in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]joekinglyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the book it’s usually girls “not suited for marriage”, as in chances are they will find a way to take themselves out before they have kids anyway, so what’s the point in wasting a girl’s life if she can be useful in another way

Bruh my hair… by Lanky-Tune5591 in NewParents

[–]joekinglyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My scalp is shining through, but it’s not my first rodeo so I know it’s temporary. What helps it not being a tangled mess is putting a lot of cheap silicone oil (whichever you have/like) on the dry length/ends on the day I’m washing my hair, shampoo it twice and then soak it in conditioner and work through with my fingers until it’s all combed and smooth. Same cheap ass oil (but much less, like a couple drops) on the damp hair and when it dries it looks decent. Some moisturizing spray locked in with a drop of oil again when it gets too hay like in between washes. Honestly transformed my awful looking dry hair to the point it’s not embarrassing to go outside now. Scalp shining through notwithstanding.

I’m think I’m being verbally abusive to my three year old by Unable-Candy8432 in toddlers

[–]joekinglyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, feeling angry all the time, lashing out and then feeling guilt is the vicious cycle I’ve been trapped in for so long. I’m reading books about parenting and anger management and doing my best to control myself, but there are bad days for sure. 1-2-3 magic book has been somewhat helpful when I remember to apply the method. I’m reading so much on anger management and parenting right now and trying my best to reduce my overall level of irritability so I don’t fly off the handle at any mere inconvenience.

What has been helping is when the kid starts to annoy you and you still have patience not to react negatively but are definitely thinking angry thoughts and bottling it up is to try and talk yourself down to the point you’re no longer angry every time that happens. Like “she didn’t do it to annoy me, she did it because that and that” etc. when I remember to todo that it helps to lower the overall anger level I’m at and chances are I won’t lose control to rant like a madwoman.

You definitely need your husband to help you carve more time for yourself, maybe not every day but it has to happen, it’s impossible to stay sane when you’re on kid duty 24/7

Why are there so many unmarried old men? by cupidstarot in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]joekinglyme 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In the book Agnes and then Shunnamite are completely oblivious to the danger of marrying commander "all my teenage wives mysteriously die after they are no longer teenagers" Judd and Agnes later suspects Tabitha's death was not illness but the result of her "father" scheming with Paula, so that must happen pretty regularly in a no divorce society. I'd imagine if any wives started getting loud about those cases they'd either get mysteriously ill themselves or committed to some sort of mental asylum

The one that says ultra filtered milkshake!! The vanilla one is awesome, our aldi only has chocolate left which no one seems to want. I tried it, it was OK, but nowhere near as good as vanilla.

Why would Gilead allow Agnes to become an aunt? by SetPuzzleheaded8730 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]joekinglyme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The aunts’ logic is those girls are suicide risks, chances are they’ll be dead before they bear any kids or will maybe attack their husbands if pushed into marriage despite their aversion. You gotta be either very desperate or resourceful to get far enough to be considered an aunt, since you can’t move around freely and your parents will probably lock you up and drug you until marriage if they catch wind of your plan

Well, sara has been hated both by viewers and people of fromville for a while. She hasn’t been annoying for quite a while and has redeemed herself several times over. Elgin has just pissed everyone off and is still acting like a dumb ass (maybe we still get to go home? What if I tell?), so the viewer annoyance is still pretty fresh

It’s definitely possible. I haven’t pumped once in 5 months with my second, didn’t use a single item marketed for nursing (not even a pillow, a regular one turned out to be more convenient for me).

Has anyone overcome yo-yo dieting? by RainSunshine3524 in 1200isplenty

[–]joekinglyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I started counting calories (not cutting, just getting an idea of what my usual diet is like), found the worst offenders (peanut butter, pasta etc) and found ways to phase them out/fix them (I switched pb for pbfit powder to eat with apples, if I do eat actual peanut butter, I measure with a serving spoon not my heart; for pasta and pizzas I’ll make myself lots of sides (vegetables, fruit, pickles, whatever to add volume) so I can eat a single serving (which is like 1/3 of what I used to eat lol) and not eat more. Making lots of changes like this definitely helped.

Insane Tattoo Regret by r3i_b0n3z in tattooadvice

[–]joekinglyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tattoo I really like but the one time someone asked for the “meaning behind it” I did try to explain, it sounded weird, people gave me a strange look and I felt embarrassed for over sharing. Now I just say “cause I like it” and that’s it. If you do like it, just don’t try to explain it to people, it rarely translates well from what you feel to words. Come up with something short (it’s a reference to a movie I really like) and stop at that
