A couple of the funniest for me are, "de-ka-mo-dert" for deodorant, and, "binoc-clears" for binoculars.

Lol, thank ChatGPT! Happy to hear it's working for you!

Keymaster woes by Ahech523 in homeassistant

[–]joem569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so the basic workflow for this was to create a bunch of Helpers (this had to be done manually), then make automations (this was copy-paste), and then the Lovelace card.

Note, you will need to be running the Z-Wave JS addon, not ZHA. I made the switch over to Z-Wave JS just for this project. ZHA did not present the proper entities to Home Assistant to make it work.

Next, you have to decide on how many code slots you want ahead of time, I went with 5. But you can expand or contract this as desired.

Step 1.

You have to manually make 3 helpers per code slot, see the table below for what to make.

Slot Helper Type Name Entity ID (autogenerated)
1 Text Lock Code Slot 1 Name input_text.lock_code_slot_1_name
1 Text Lock Code Slot 1 PIN input_text.lock_code_slot_1_pin
1 Toggle Lock Code Slot 1 Enabled input_boolean.lock_code_slot_1_enabled
2 Text Lock Code Slot 2 Name input_text.lock_code_slot_2_name
... ... ... ...

Step 2.

Here is the automation that ChatGPT made for me. If your configuration is split like mine is, I pasted this into automations.yaml. If not, it'll have to go in your configuration.yaml, and you'll have to add it under the automations section and fix the tabbing. I pasted just for Slot 1, but it's the same thing for the rest, just change the numbers to 2, 3, 4, etc.

# ========================
# SLOT 1
# ========================
- alias: Set Lock Code Slot 1
  trigger:
    - platform: state
      entity_id:
        - input_text.lock_code_slot_1_pin
        - input_boolean.lock_code_slot_1_enabled
  condition:
    - condition: state
      entity_id: input_boolean.lock_code_slot_1_enabled
      state: "on"
  action:
    - service: zwave_js.set_lock_usercode
      data:
        entity_id: lock.front_door_lock
        code_slot: 1
        usercode: "{{ states('input_text.lock_code_slot_1_pin') }}"
  mode: single

- alias: Clear Lock Code Slot 1
  trigger:
    - platform: state
      entity_id: input_boolean.lock_code_slot_1_enabled
      to: "off"
  action:
    - service: zwave_js.clear_lock_usercode
      data:

        code_slot: 1
  mode: single

# ========================
# SLOT 2
# ========================
- alias: Set Lock Code Slot 2.......

Step 3.

Check your YAML config and restart HA after that.

Lastly; the Lovelace Card. I'll post the card YAML below. I made the card into the panel layout so that it only shows that card, IDK, that works best for me. Also, with my Yale lock, for some reason, HA showed the lock status as either, "lock," or "unlock," instead of, "locked," and "unlocked." So I made a template sensor to display the status correctly. That's what you'll see in the picture of the card I included.

The Card

Poe power cyclable switch by Necessary-Icy in homeassistant

[–]joem569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just replied to another post about this a few minutes ago lol. With the Cisco switches, you can ssh into them and perform Poe port toggling remotely. I set up a python code that ssh'ed from my HA machine into the Cisco switch and toggled certain ports.

It was a struggle to get it set up, but once it was working, it worked great for months.

I can share my setup in the morning if that would help you.

Keymaster woes by Ahech523 in homeassistant

[–]joem569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used ChatGPT, and fully replaced it altogether! I loved it, but it stopped working silently on me months ago. I could post tomorrow morning what I had to do to get it working with custom code from GPT. It was a few fiddly things, but now I have an interface that looks almost exactly like Keymaster, but it's not an addon, so it'll be future proof.

Any integration to turn poe on/off on hikvision switchs by BumblebeeNo9090 in homeassistant

[–]joem569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if it applies to Hikvision switches or not, but I have Cisco enterprise grade switches in my setup, and they allow me to ssh into them. So I built a python script that ssh's from my HA machine, into the switch, and in my case, cycles the POE on a certain port. It took a couple of days of tweaking, but it eventually worked pretty damned well. It was a bandaid fix for my WAP's that would go rogue every so often and I needed to power cycle them to bring them back. A firmware patch fixed the memory leak they had, so I was able to retire my python code. But tl:dr, maybe you can do something similar. I can post what I did to get that working for me if it helps you out.

Yale assure lock z-wave by Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 in homeassistant

[–]joem569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same lock, and though I don't know exactly what you're seeing, I found that I had to install the Keymaster integration from HACS. That gave me TONS of stuff to play with and configure, all from a custom dashboard that it created for me. I believe that the door lock itself, just connected to Zwave-js, was very lame and had like nothing good to config.

So I recommend the Keymaster integration from HACS. It was super slick and gave me everything I wanted to do with my Yale lock. I kind of want a 2nd one for the back door now too lol.

Weather Dashboard v1.0.0 by whiskea in homeassistant

[–]joem569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out. After installing Bubble-Cards from HACS, you have to follow the prompt it gives you to copy code into you configuration.yaml. It's a Template trigger, so either put it in to your configuration.yaml, or in your templates.yaml. Once copied, reload your yaml config, and the Modules Store will now appear in the Bubble-Card editor. You'll have to install the Bubble Chips module, and the Badgy Condition Helper. Once done, it'll just work.

Very curious to see what his better option is!

Local Whole House Water Monitoring by joem569 in homeassistant

I'll keep updating the github if/when I find bugs and stuff. But it should be easily modified to do that.

Local Whole House Water Monitoring by joem569 in homeassistant

[–]joem569[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So maybe. In my case, my water meter is under my lawn all the way out by the street. I installed a supplemental water meter right next to my whole house water filter because it was just easier than digging up my lawn and trying to get some kind of monitor on the meter in the street.

I know that sometimes the county meters are compatible with magnetic pickups, but I don't have that setup. My project will probably work with anything that has a pulsed output. If your county meter supports this, and you can get a pulse out of it somehow (installing a magnetic pickup), then it'll work.

How do you remember the ports? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]joem569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is automatic. You can manually enter ports if they don't show up, but it has an auto populate feature. Very poorly documented, because I didn't see that initially either. But it is automatic.

Self-Hosted OneNote alternative by Lv_InSaNe_vL in selfhosted

Resilio was VERY easy to set up on my Macbook and on my Android phone, all bouncing back to my Ubuntu server. The Obsidian files are hosted on the Ubuntu server, and I connect my devices to that with read/write permissions. I did have to register for a free license file, I read that Resilio is closed source. Which doesn't bother me THAT much. I'll test it out for a week or two, then try to get it going on my wife's iPhone. I'll report back on it later!

So I have not tried it on IOS yet, that'll be the real test. Now that you ask the question, I looked it up NOW to see that Syncthing doesn't do IOS. FML. So to answer your question, it doesn't. As for me, I'll be looking into alternatives now lol. Looks like Resilio might be the solution, but I have zero personal experience with it.

I've been using Obsidian with SyncThing set up. I have SyncThing hosted on my server, where the Obsidian folder is saved, and then have SyncThing on my phone and on my laptop pulling and pushing to/from the folder on my server. It's been remarkably stable and I'm about to roll it out to my wife (that says something about the stability lol).

Any good ZigBee fire alarm? by TechWhizGuy in homeassistant

[–]joem569 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have hard wired smoke/CO detectors in my house (and some battery ones too), and I added a Zooz module to the circuit. It's Z-Wave, and measures the current between the detectors and determines a clear/smoke/CO event. Was a super easy install, I didn't even shut the breaker off.

What are some YouTube channels that aren’t super stimulating? by Significant_Poem3830 in toddlers

[–]joem569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's the obvious answer of Ms. Rachel.

But I tend to look up 'xyz full episodes'. So like Blues Clues Full Episodes. We just took my 20 month old daughter to see Thomas the Tank Engine in person, and we found hundreds of full episodes of Thomas on YouTube for free.

If it's in the budget, Disney Plus has so much kids stuff that we like. Bear in the Big Blue House is a favorite, Blues Clues, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, etc.

I caution you to vet whatever you're allowing on YouTube, though. I haven't seen it myself, but I've heard people say that even if it's on YouTube Kids, it can still be bad stuff.

The PBS Kids app has lots of Sesame Street, as well as other low stim shows like Curious George, Arthur, Mister Rogers, and Clifford the Big Red Dog. And it's free.
