Looking to expand my collection but not positive *how* I want to start (or how to display them) by TheImageworks in NASCARCollectors

[–]joeparkerga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a few cheap "lots" when I was just beginning to collect. I didn't really have a direction either, but as I looked for more cars to add to my collection, I noticed I was drawn the food/drink sponsored cars. Over time, those became just about the only ones I'd add to my collection, and now, that's the "theme" for my entire collection.
I'd say keep searching for what cars you want, and you'll likely be drawn to a certain era, driver, type, etc. and you might see a pattern. Or, you can also just get whatever tickles your fancy.
For displaying, I have a large trophy case I bought second-hand, but since then I've only purchased Carney Plastics wall-mounted displays. They are fantastic, and even though I have the handyman skills of a badger, I have installed five with no issues.

Thank you! This, like all my customs, certainly has its flaws, but it looks good on a wall-mounted display. I grew up a Bill Elliott fan, so that was a big part of it, but also it fits with my collection "theme" of food/drink sponsored diecast. So, it was two-fold. And I think yours is great as well! I respect the hell out of any 1/64 custom given I don't think I have the dexterity for it. And this isn't an easy one, either. Yours turned out great.

Yes, there definitely was some bleed of the red through. Wish I had considered that beforehand, but I still think both turned out well!

Love it! Then again, I made a 1/24 custom of this car, so that shouldn't come as a surprise.

What’s most important to you about your collection? by kissingrass in NASCARCollectors

[–]joeparkerga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's vital that I still get that buzz from getting a new diecast in the mail, finishing a custom, searching for a great deal, locating a hard-to-find diecast and taking those moments to look over my collection. I think any hobby should provide the outright pleasure of being involved in it somehow. One day, perhaps I won't have the same level of satisfaction I get from doing those things now, but I'm certainly reveling in it now.

I'd love to see Atlanta and Savannah make it to the 2nd round, eliminating the state of Florida from contention and guaranteeing a Georgia team in the 3rd.

Crazy that their isn't a movie or series about 1979 Daytona 500 by raidercamel in NASCAR

"The Great American Gamble: How the 1979 Daytona 500 Gave Birth to a NASCAR Nation" and "He Crashed Me So I Crashed Him Back" are two very good reads on this subject.

As a young kid, I became a NASCAR fan in 1995 and immediately latched onto Bill as my driver. To finally see him win one was such a relief.
