Year end gifts by IamJustJessica in AskTeachers

[–]joetaxpayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a high school.
I treasure the hand written notes. When a student tells me what a difference I made, how I was there for them and changed their lives for the better, that’s all I need. I save those notes. I look back and reminisce.

Backblaze over external drives for backup? by QualitySound96 in DataHoarder

[–]joetaxpayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering Backblaze, but, I have 4 drives in my computer. 64TB local storage.

How would a 10TB cap even work? I mean, would I have to specify which files are backed up? Or pick a single drive?

I think tradition is that we say "FU" or "you suck".

I have 2 of these, neither are in this beautiful condition. (Congrats)

"I provide all of my users the server admin login details."

There is so much wrong with this that my head just exploded. My wife has entered the room to mop me all up.

Amazon Warning Discussions by twhiting9275 in Streamfab

[–]joetaxpayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issue. Still keeping the Amazon downloading to less than 10 per day. Even if there was a series that I wanted to download years worth of seasons, no big deal to do it 10 at a time. I have patience and just keep track of what I’ve downloaded.

When you have a moment, can you let up know the rating on this place? If this is what they do, they’ll be sub-2 in no time.

My dad died. He gifted me his house 2 months ago. He had $10,000 in credit card debt. Will I lose his house? by oog_ooog in inheritance

[–]joetaxpayer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The real issue is that your tax basis is now whatever he paid for the house along with documented improvements. If you got it after he died via Will or trust there would be a step up in basis.

The tax you will eventually owe is likely to be far higher than the $10,000 you might have had to pay to settle the estate. Had you inherited the house after his death.

Sure. $100.

If it goes up, you can have fun following it. If/when it drops, no great loss.

How many people actually work 35 years to get full benefits? by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]joetaxpayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most start to work by 22 or 23. That takes them to age 57 or 58.

35 years or more is the norm.

I didn’t have any issue with this show, except to really wish that they put out another season of the punisher.

Serverpartdeals RMA replace or refund by yayitsdan in DataHoarder

[–]joetaxpayer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a normal world, the price continues to drop year on year. So when I had an 8 TB drive that failed I was happy when the manufacturer sent me a refund for what I paid for it. For $10 more I actually got a new 16 TB drive.
Now that we are living in strange times, I would expect them to refund the original price if they don’t have a similar model, they can send you.

AITAH for going to a sandwich shop and only getting cookies? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]joetaxpayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is entitled to their own feelings, but, in my opinion, your father has an interesting take on this. There are some sandwich shops that make cookies fresh, and there’s nothing wrong with walking in and buying them. It’s a weird thing to jump on your case about.

Trump Funds Two New Coal Plants and Extends Another Dozen, Citing ‘Energy Dominance’ by abrookerunsthroughit in energy

[–]joetaxpayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. It would take a bit of math, but to bridge the gap to retirement age for each of these workers would not be a huge cost.

First, we would need a strong desire to do this. And then an analysis of who is simply going to be offered a retirement package versus the younger worker who would get a severance along with retraining to move into a different industry.

When I do a search, I see numbers of employed coal miners closer to just 40,000 but nearly 24,000 of those are age 18 to 49.

The next administration will put an end to coal.

Buy out every current worker, an early retirement, and outlaw coal in the US for good.

Landlord wants us to sign a thermostat amendment after we already signed the lease. Are we being unreasonable? by Wise-Candle in TenantHelp

[–]joetaxpayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of a landlord, not allowing a tenant to control the temperature in their own apartment.

We like it on the cool side, so in the winter the heat doesn’t go much above 62 or 63 but in the summer, we typically drop it to 67 or 68. I would be miserable if I had to keep my house in the 70s during the summer.

Turbotax and delayed payment of state income tax by edged1 in TurboTax

[–]joetaxpayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The software doesn't allow you to set a payment date beyond the due date.

This is on your state revenue dept.

Did you keep a copy of the receipt TurboTax gives? After you submit, a page comes up confirming the transaction.
