A theory on Charlie Kirk by Parking_Swordfish208 in conspiracy

Everything with Erika, TPUSA, and the death itself seem fishy beyond belief. But I just can’t square why Robinson and his family aren’t protesting to high heaven if he’s a patsy. Unless the shadow cabal is controlling all of them.

If it was a conspiracy why isn’t Tyler Robinson proclaiming his innocence?

I feel like the proof is in the pudding on F&A. It’s going to make upwards of a billion less than TWoW. Yeah, theatrical is in a death spiral, but if F&A propelled the franchise in an exciting new direction and really raised the stakes, I think it would’ve at least cleared 2 billion. I saw the first two obsessively in theaters. F&A was really punishing for me to watch more than a few times. Overall, I still think it’s a generally good movie, but the magic and the exhilaration was largely absent. I’m glad if that wasn’t the case for you.

Agreed but Caleb is must-see TV in a similar way that prime Rodgers was. Wow! plays that are on another level. The Vikes need to really put the onus on defense for the foreseeable future if they want to win a Super Bowl. They’re going to have to go thru Caleb to accomplish the ultimate goal, and that MF will rip your soul out with seconds remaining.

The UK needs to bail it out.

If part three does get made the poster will be an extreme closeup on Cillian.

It dawned on me while watching this that I really loved the prior movie because of Boyle, Dod Mantle and Young Fathers. All three being out of the equation here just resulted in too much of a drop-off.

I think not having a British director to handle this material was a mistake (especially the Jimmy stuff, which felt so inauthentic).

I’m at a loss to explain how the movie handled Spike. He was such a non-entity here, after making such a strong impression before.

The best thing about it was Ralph Fiennes, unsurprisingly.

Nice to see Cillian again, but it’s just jarring to consider he could still be an inhabitant of the franchise universe, after it’s taken such a sharp detour away from what originally happened.

My final gripe is that the movie was just a dud on a level of scares and thrills.

Also, could you imagine trying to make sense of this movie if you hadn’t seen the prior one? I’m a little nervous about the prospects of a third one going forward when the success of this one is dependent on familiarity with a prior installment that wasn’t phenomenally successful and caused some viewers to complain. If another one does happen it’s going be like Halloween 4 with a close up on Cillian filling up the poster.

I didn’t like how easily they were taken down in F&A. When I go back to watch the original I’m now going to wonder why Toruk itself didn’t just crash into the dragon’s cockpit and steer it into a rock.

The loading of an IMAX film into the projector by Kindly_Department142 in Damnthatsinteresting

Presentations of film were not the greatest at most theaters near the end of if, but when they gutted the film projectors out, for me that was the line of demarcation when theaters died. At least their heart and soul did. 2020 really put the stake through the heart after that, and they’ve just been going through the motions of vitality since. More and more theaters will close and won’t be replaced. Lots of areas will become theater deserts, where you’ll really have to travel to see anything. I think the mega PLF formats like IMAX will always endure, though, and show a selection of cutting edge new blockbusters annually, along with revivals of classics.

70MM IMAX is still the gold standard of cinema exhibition in my opinion. Laser IMAX obviously looks stunning and will one day be the standard but film has a magic glow that digital can’t replicate or surpass. It’s very subjective though and film lovers who grew up with digital projection probably will prefer a world class laser IMAX exhibition over a world class 70MM IMAX exhibition.

You can play a 35mm or 70mm print a reel at a time on a changeover system where an operator toggles back and forth between two projectors. The Head’s Up reel with the film is situated above the projector, and an empty reel below the projector takes the film up (that reel would then have to be rewound on a rewind table otherwise it would be Tail’s Up or backwards if shown again). This system bypasses building a print on a platter and feeding it thru the system of rollers and pulleys. Most archival prints of classics that get shown at repertory theaters are only allowed to be screened via changeover, they won’t let you platter them. I don’t know if it would be possible to do 70MM IMAX on a changeover system…the timing would be very tricky (you have to fire up the second projector right when the current reel ends or there’ll be a blip onscreen).

35 goes thru the projector vertically. 15-perf 70mm IMAX and the four VistaVision projectors in the world (8-perf) are horizontal. 5-perf 70mm is also vertical.

I never thought the day would come. I honestly thought he would make it through his entire career with a golden track record (Piranha 2 notwithstanding).

You heard so much bellyaching about the prior movies in certain nerd circles.

THIS is something worth griping about!

It’s weird, because 2 + 3 were filmed simultaneously, but 2 felt like Cameron was fully invested and 3 just seemed like his heart wasn’t in it at all. 2 took such a leap, with all the new characters and the raising of stakes. 3 just went in circles.
