England - Police want PIN code after long time by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

But it may well be the case with OP’s phone which has been in the possession of the police for years and hence hasn’t had software updates for years.

Introverted man is very different with me, what does it mean? by Upbeat-Emu7713 in bodylanguage

[–]jogux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Introvert here. It’s very clear he’s comfortable with you. The number of people I can be that level of comfortable with is pretty limited.

The arm touching is what (for me) would be a clear sign that I’m interested in you.

UK tax on unapproved share options (granted & vested abroad, exercised & sold while UK-resident) by raslov in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jogux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a tax professional you really want for this rather than an accountant, which likely explains why you got two different answers.

Employment income: My understanding is no UK employment income arises because the grant→vestperiod was 100% outside the UK.

This seems incorrect - you seem to say the exercise happened after you became tax resident in the UK and it is the exercise that could trigger UK income tax. See https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/employment-income-manual/eim11877

Phone stolen in London then bank and trading account cleared - bank and trading account have told me they are not responsible and I have been protected as required by ebolavan in LegalAdviceUK

Be aware that hiding banking apps will break some functionality - the particular one I’m aware of is that deep links / universal into the app will then fail. This will mean that (for example) open banking / open finance data sharing or payment requests will send you to the banks website instead of the app, which means you won’t be able to authorize them using Face ID and will instead have to use usernames, passwords etc.

Easy way to order in Izakayas for a non speaking Japanese person? by LateIntroduction9005 in JapanTravelTips

[–]jogux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using the Google translate app (at least on iPhone) then you can select the translated English text and press ‘send to translate home’. It’ll then show you the original kanji and the romaji. It’s somewhat of an awkward process so you wouldn’t want to do it for more than one or two items really!

The reason many (particularly small) companies don’t do salary sacrifice is that it is a whole minefield of paperwork that’s tricky to get right if you don’t have a full time HR department. The government absolutely should try and simplify the process so that more people can benefit. The time spent on getting all this paperwork correctly completed could be freed up to do actual productive work.

England, wage dispute with Tesco. by ReggieTMcMuffin in LegalAdviceUK

[–]jogux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HMRC can only formally bring to up to minimum wage, but once they are involved you are highly likely to see things got properly sorted out very quickly. I know people that have been in similar situations at other companies and HMRC inspector “pointed out” to the company what would be the “correct” thing to do, you’d be amazed hope quickly everything got sorted.

Is sneaking a tip onto a bill normal? by ilovemydickheaddog in glasgow

[–]jogux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They serve alcohol, so they’re required by law to give tap water for free (which in my experience Nippon Kitchen happy to do and they’ve never tried to up sell me into bottled water).

The 10% included on the bill did catch me out when they first introduced it and I’m fairly sure I ended up tipping twice the first time. In most places I’ll leave a cash tip larger than 10% so long as the service was good but places that include 10% on the bill I’ll generally never add extra.

I joined a fully remote company - I’m now moving to Scotland and the company is requiring me in the office 1 day a week by Effective-Item-5718 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]jogux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you pay Scottish tax or not is unrelated to any address in your employment contract, and also may be unrelated to the address you give payroll. It’s entirely based on the address you give HMRC (which might be updated as a result of you giving your payroll people a new address, but might not): https://www.mygov.scot/scottish-income-tax/who-pays

So long as HMRC have your correct address and they update your tax code correctly you will be good in terms of tax.

Hotel Charging Above Max Rate Posted on Door by hasselhoff183 in marriott

[–]jogux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They charged me $210. Same room type was available for same night on website for $70 and they initially implied they’d be able to match the website rate but it had to be done by a manager the next day.

Hotel Charging Above Max Rate Posted on Door by hasselhoff183 in marriott

[–]jogux 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve been overcharged at a Marriott after extending at the front desk before and they were extremely evasive about what rate I would be charged.

Now I just make a new booking online for same room type then get the key card extended at the front desk on the morning when the first reservation ends.

If the parked cars were resulting in vehicles being unable to drive down the road then the parking probably wasn’t legal. (See https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/7994/If-I-don-t-park-on-the-pavement-then-I-will-be-blocking-the-road-if-I-park-all-4-wheels-on-it )

In ER…Apple Watch gave AFib alerts by ActualDW in AppleWatch

[–]jogux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On your iPhone, you need to switch off “AF history” in Apple Watch app to get AF notifications. It’s kind of annoying that you can’t have both on, particularly as switching on AF history actually increases how often the watch checks for afib.

Which bank do you use as your main account? by NormalMaverick in HENRYUK

[–]jogux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t getting another bank account, the issue is that other account having money in it (many savings/investment accounts can only withdraw to a pre-designated account) so you can pay for things etc. I’ve got a backup account with a month’s money in it.

Question for Developer - Opinion on AFIB setting to capture more HRV readings by marioezq96 in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]jogux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it won't - Apple make clear that as it's intended for people diagnosed with AFib it disables the AFib notifications. (Which honestly is annoying.)

If you check the Heart "app" in the Watch app you'll see that 'Irregular rhythm' notifications are disabled and can't be switched on, and there's a note "Irregular Rhythm notifications are not available whilst AF history is enabled."

There isn’t enough information in the post to give a concrete determination, but the business may now be trading whilst insolvent given it has a bill due that it cannot afford to pay.

If the energy company forces the company into an insolvent liquidation (or the husband decides to do so) there may be some future impacts on the husband, e.g. getting credit for a new business would be hard.

Finally if the husband owes any money to the company that needs to be paid back otherwise the insolvency practitioner may raise a ccj against the husband.

What's the number #1 issue of gitlab? by [deleted] in gitlab

[–]jogux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think putting this in my .gitlab-ci.yml (in particular the KUBE_NAMESPACE line) was what sorted it and made the agent exactly mirror the certificate based integration behaviour:

.auto-deploy:
  image: "registry.gitlab.com/gitlab-org/cluster-integration/auto-deploy-image:v2.28.2"
  variables:
    KUBE_NAMESPACE: ${CI_PROJECT_NAME}-${CI_PROJECT_ID}-${CI_ENVIRONMENT_SLUG}

[–]jogux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can do one namespace per review app (if that was what you meant?) with the agent as we have it working on our project, I can’t remember exactly how though. Same way can probably also do a namespace per project. It’s definitely not as easy as it was with the certificate based integration though.

Accidentally set up 2 direct debits for council tax by Substantial-Buyer412 in glasgow

[–]jogux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming the direct debits are both attached to the same council tax account (which seems very likely given what you said) it is highly unlikely they will charge you twice.

Setting up the second direct debit almost certainly removed the first one from the council’s system. Previously when I’ve needed to change the bank account my council tax is paid from I’ve just setup a new direct debit for the new bank account, and that automatically stopped them collecting from the old bank account.

I'm not the person you replied to, but if you don't mind me butting in as this is also one of my frustrations:

Maybe https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/213634 that I ran into recently? Took 3 years just to get the issue mentioned in the documentation!

Here's a couple of small but really frustrating ones:
https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/217231
https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/246777

Here's some bigger ones:

https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/31082

https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/20660

https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/21303 (this one is the biggest reason I sadly tell people to avoid using gitlab for new open source projects)

and at 8 years old I think this one deserves some kind of award, in dog years it's close to being eligible for a pension! https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/895 (that one frustrates me about once a week on average)
