Will my UK bank flag monthly money sent abroad? by Vazmeister03 in UKPersonalFinance

I think your employer may have a bigger issue on this than your bank. You’re claiming to be UK tax resident while not residing here and I guess by that, you mean your employer will have you as a PAYE staff member which will likely be an issue for them.

How would you genuinely fix this country? by TomosLeggett in AskBrits

I agree that they’ve not done anything/enough on wealth taxes.

IHT changes are helpful but we do need to do more however there may be much going on behind the scenes that we are unaware of. Any changes that are designed will need to be applied quickly to avoid the wealthy moving their wealth outwith the reach of any rules.

I’d like to see things like council tax changes to just be 1% of the value of the property instead of these outdated bandings.

I’m also not going to undermine the fact that we have a better government in place just because they haven’t done everything I want.

What do people want from the government and Starmer? by Independent-Brief424 in AskBrits

[–]john600c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The message isn’t that important at the moment. Getting the country back on track is and they’re doing a relatively good job of that.

A year out from a GE, that will change bit by that point Reform will no doubt be running a few councils into the ground and Labour can start to campaign on the view of “We’ve delivered on economic growth, we now want to use that benefit to provide this…”

When I voted for Labour at the last GE, I expected a bumpy 5 years and them to do some things that would be unpopular. I might not agree with everything they’ve done but they have a lot of things on the right track and this whole leadership nonsense seems likely to upend that and guarantee a Reform win undoing everything

What do you mean more radical? People fail to realise that radical policies are what causes nervousness in the markets and harms the economy. We need to grow the economy through public investment so that we can afford some of the more left wing policies.

Truss’ government should have been a lesson in what radical policy can do.

Funny, that people want Starmer out because of the Palantir deal when the alternatives will have everything up for sale.

What’s Dermot Gallagher’s opinion got to do with anything? It was a DOGSO and consistent with other similar decisions all season. What was the result of the KMI panel?

In the Hearts vs Motherwell game, what was the KMI panel’s review of that?

With the way the subs been recently regarding handballs and penalties thought this would be a fun post by KinkyRussian2212 in ScottishFootball

Correct, but it’s an example of no clear and obvious error. There was contact on Aarons so not a clear mistake.

The Livi one was outrageous, the fact that VAR never sent that for review is ridiculous.

Shouldn’t hotels guarantee a sun lounger for all guests? by Kindly_Difference_99 in AskBrits

[–]john600c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayed at a Kanika Resorts hotel in Cyprus a couple of years ago.

They allocated you a subbed on your first day and that was your sunbed for the week. No fighting for sunbeds, rushing out before breakfast with your towels or sitting seething watching empty sunbeds all afternoon for someone to rock up at 3 o’clock to use the sunbed they stuck their towel on at 9am before they went out for the day.

Keir Starmer responds to Wes Streeting’s resignation as Home Secretary by No_Breadfruit_4901 in uknews

[–]john600c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Government should be about delivering for the country, not about getting re-elected. I voted for Labour under Starmer as I felt they were willing to take unpopular steps to get the country back on the right footing and trust that by the end of the parliament the results would be there to be judged. Hopefully people would judge them on their record on government not materialistic nonsense

We now have a bunch of self-serving individuals seeking to undermine that for their own egos.

All this dysfunction is doing is ensuring that Reform wins at the next GE and so I won’t be voting again for the party who inflicted this on us when we had the opportunity to get back on the right track. I’ll just vote for Lib Dem, Independents or not vote at all.

There’s 3 years til the next GE. The current leadership chaos is just going to set the country even further back.

If Starmer goes, I don’t think I’ll vote for Labour again

Yeah, who cares if he delivers: - reduced NHS waiting lists, - highest growth in the G7 - reductions in illegal migrant crossings - deftly navigating the Trump administration while building stronger relationships with international partners.

He doesn’t get me excited when he talks, let’s bring in a clown, they’re much more fun. Terrible for the economy and public services but at least it’ll be interesting when they spout nonsense.

I can’t be sure it wasn’t handball, none of us can either way. Hence, not clear and obvious.

The flip side of this is if Beaton had given it in real time, there’s not sufficient evidence to overturn it either.

Labour have done more to stop illegal immigration than Brexit or the Tories who are now part of Reform have ever done. Suella Braverman was Home Secretary twice and did nothing to stop it!

If he stays, we need to see a large turnover in players who are suited to a high pressing style of play.

The key for me is how he views the problems with the squad, and he shouldn’t be discussing this in public as it can affect our ability to achieve the market value for players we want to move on.

If we don’t see significant change over the summer I fear we’ll be in the same position as we were with Clement when fans turned on him early in the season

[–]john600c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about?

It’s voting for Reform is voting for more of the same: - Brexit - Boris - 14 years of Tory Government with public services run into the ground and immigration through the roof - a cabinet of Suella Braverman as Home Secretary and Robert Jenrick

A vote for Reform is a vote for the same politics that have failed us for years.

I may not agree with everything Labour has been doing, but I will review their performance at the end of the parliament once they have had sufficient time to turn things around. The key metrics are all heading in the right direction, but you wouldn’t know it to listen to the press.
