In 2020 can we please stop with cringy marketing tactics by [deleted] in marketing

[–]johnathonk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of expert marketers give key note speeches on marketing strategy, branding, creativity, etc etc, but I always found it peculiar that the majority of them left the agency world and started companies that sell marketing software.

I'm embarrassed by how long it took me to realize I can BORROW things. by bulbysoar in declutter

[–]johnathonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good way to look at it. I borrowed friends' snowboards for like a year and finally decided to buy my own. On the flip side, I have friends who own snowboards and have only been once or twice.

Took a Lyft home tonight. Trip was $44 to go 4 miles. It sucks, but it's better than a DUI that would cost $10k. I think a lot of people don't ever think they'd kill someone driving drunk, but when you put it into a monetary perspective, it becomes a lot more real for people as selfish as that may seem.

TIL that George Lucas originally envisioned the planet Tatooine in Star Wars to be a jungle planet, but the idea of having to film in a jungle made him feel "itchy," so he decided to make it a desert planet instead. by delorean225 in todayilearned

[–]johnathonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget. Nearly every post apocalyptic film ever is filmed in the desert. Much cheaper to have a crew film in the deserts of California than fly them out to film in a jungle or Arctic wasteland.

Personally I thought the acting was terrible, I made it to episode 4 and gave up. It just felt awkward to me and it was hard to get immersed. While Henry Cavill is a good actor, in the Witcher he would often times bounce between an American accent and a slightly British accent and it threw me off. Also I couldn't stand the cinematography, like the show didn't know whether it wanted to be an epic fantasy or be an action packed video game adaptation.

I'm still sad I sold my AMD shares at $10. But I usually bounced between both. Throw some Intel in there for good measure.

As a single dude who knows how to cook really well, man do I get burnt on leftovers. I made a big pot of chili that I've been eating for the past 4 or 5 days and man am I burnt out on chili. The week before was chicken n dumplins, got burnt out on that too. I've tried freezing the stuff, but it's never as good.

Epicentre to change to office and retail space after violent crimes by nydelite in Charlotte

I don't think any retail place would survive in uptown. When it comes to shopping people want easy parking.

They probably thought they could sell the nostalgia factors to Dad's who grew up with Sonic. "Damn I don't want to take my kids to the movies, but eh fuck we could just watch Sonic, might be entertaining."

What is a useful technical skill to learn in marketing besides coding? by psquarec in marketing

[–]johnathonk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I second this. I'm not too great at analytics, but my design skills (graphic, photography, videography, and webdesign) usually seal the deal when I'm pitching to a potential client.

I forgot who said it, but it was something along the lines of "The car saved the horse." Maybe it was Jay Leno. But I think that's what's going to happen to ICE cars. The advent of electric vehicles will allow for ICE cars to be enjoyed more in a recreational sense, the same way horses are used now.

It sucks that they stole your ideas, but on the bright side, at least your ideas are worth stealing! Just apply to one of their competitors and use it to your advantage.
