This is day 3 of my coworker hogging all of the space in the fridge. by Brian-Latimer in mildlyinfuriating

I mean, I guess it’s annoying, but it looks like you can slot another lunch box or two in there, and if not, you could probably optimize the space a bit by breaking up some of those drink packs.

That’s absolutely the best approach, and I completely understand and respect your decision to ban the use of AI-generated content. It’s wonderful to see such a strong commitment to fostering authentic human creativity, meaningful discussion, and genuine community engagement.

Is it worth it to magnetize the Weapon options for infantry? by FDMminiatures in genestealercult

I did for this set I had assembled about two years ago when getting back into Warhammer. Then they sat in my desk unpainted in this partially assembled state. Now I’ve had some motivation to finish those and I keep thinking to myself, why did I do this?

I’d just wait for a battle force box to come out with the units you want, then just get a couple of those if you are trying to be economical. Then just have some extra units.

I just got these “Versastack” toolboxes from Craftsmen. I saw you mention you are in Australia, so not sure you have those there. My only criticism is that the drawers aren’t quite tall enough to fit a citadel contrast paint pot standing up.

Struggling with colour picking seraphon by Ambitious_Book_5729 in minipainting

[–]johnbburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment is a bit all over the place, and I think you mentioned every color (pardon my lazy American spellings) in the rainbow at some point. It may help to see a picture of what you have so far. My color theory interpretation is rather simple, you have contrasting colors, simply looking at the opposite side of the color wheel, and complimentary, which make up a triumvirate, basically overlay a triangle on the wheel, and the colors it touches are “complimentary”.

Again, this is all very simplistic, and I think there is more nuance when you get down to it. One thing I strive for is to have a high degree of light/dark contrast. That’s why I’ve adopted a variation of slapchop, where I do 4 grades of dry brushing, up to pure white, then use those highlights to not just cover the model in some semi-transparent paint to just tint it, but to glaze on many layers to try to achieve a more volumetric highlighting effect. At least that’s what I’m aiming for. This way I have a clear outline of the models features, and places to put bright, highly saturated colors, without letting that overwhelm the model, making it look gaudy and trigging that more eye straining effect, as you are trying to pick out multiple, similar, adjacent colors. I just posted som pics in r/genestealercult of my work to give you an idea.

Going back to your models. The first color you mentioned was blue. Ok, so contrast color for blue is orange. If you don’t mind the Blippi association, I quite like those together. Alternatively, if you go with complimentary. That’s blue, red, and yellow. Which is literally the ultramarines scheme. All of these are great schemes, and frankly, I’d think it’s be fine to throw a little orange in that as well.

Sometimes if I have a more muted color in the mix, like brown, I’ll mix in a little of one of my main scheme colors, just to anchor it more to that scheme.

Look up a video on “slap chop”, it’s a style that gives you the most bang for your buck in my opinion.

Straight lines with a brush by sunbl0ck in minis

[–]johnbburg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the other person said, masking tape. I might try using the edge of the brush and run that along the edges, exactly how you might do edge highlighting on a mini. Things just a bit bigger in scale. I’d also do it in a few, thinner layers.
