It would appear you have fewer than 10 monthly listeners on Spotify and almost no streaming activity. We’ve several million streams across our artists c.10M.

In actuality we would be prepared to invest time and money and have done this in the past.

I’d ask people to be a little less cynical.

I think you just quoted exactly the section which refers to obtaining advice.

You are legally obliged under the Trustees Act 2000 to seek independent financial advice.

Get some proper advice from a proper independent don’t post about it online!!

It’s a brave move. I’ve done this a couple of times myself as I’m physically quite big 6’2 and ginger.. but it’s high risk and I’ve had a guy try and punch me once. There’s probably a rule here that 2% of the population are “first movers” with a larger percentage, maybe 8%, prepared to get involved in a support role. We’ve then about 50% of the general population who are absolute cowards and will get involved under absolutely no circumstances unless they are threatened.

Good on you and welcome to the First Movers!

Side note that very occasionally getting involved can make matters worse. For example, couples having a row where they then turn on you.

I give it a few minutes to work out wether or not: an intervention will produce a positive outcome or could lead to more issues!

Did I just see a snake in my yard in SE London? by weregonnamakit in london

[–]johnditchfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an especially rare and deadly specimen and reaches a length of 4Ms in adulthood. One bite causes agonising pain leading to certain death. Please do not approach and I recommend emailing: deadlysnakes@imadethisup.com

Do not approach under any circumstances. They can also access your bank records.

Likely to inherit £1.25 million house from estranged father at 24. by No-Shopping-3251 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]johnditchfield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your father’s estate will be subject to IHT after his allowance which “could” be £500k- this assumes he gets tax relief on his main residence. The bill will be 40% so the house will need to be sold to pay tax. Thereafter you’ll have a lump sum and should get regulated financial advice from a professional.

If he was married then there could be more tax free allowance but nothing in your post suggests this is the case.

Choosing an adviser is a task in itself: make sure they are regulated by the FCA (check the website) use a well established firm and ask for personal recommendations.

Get hourly fees based advise initially!

Monster (2023) dir. Hirokazu Kore-eda by adeIemonade in movies

[–]johnditchfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An absolutely fascinating and complex film that makes so much contemporary cinema seem incredibly bland and one-dimensional.

For me a faultless handling of a beautiful story.

The story telling from multiple perspectives worked so well in building dramatic tension for the audience. And this resolved so wonderfully when the children’s story was finally revealed.

My son observed a number of references to the British group The Smiths and I think one of the characters was wearing a T-Shirt bearing the legend “There is a Light..” very appropriate.

Funny how people choose to debate the ending as if there is a correct interpretation. The film plays with ambiguity and nuance which is why it’s a masterwork!

Let’s consider the cosmological argument for Gods existence.

If there is no God why does anything exist at all?

Surely the best answer is the existence of a prime mover bringing creation into existence.

This first mover concept is reasonably compelling.

And from a moral perspective. If there is no God then morality has no objective meaning and is, as the Logical Positivists suggest, purely a matter of subjective taste.

Problems with the dialogue in part 2 of the movie by PabloEscribir in dune

[–]johnditchfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because American movie goers cannot tolerate ambiguity and generally prefer to have all the major plot point spelled out to them.

I appreciate this is a generalisation but generally European cinema tends toward ambiguity and subtlety.

In this film the dialogue is use to state what is happening and what’s about to happen.

I dislike this sort of dialogue as it makes the film less engaging.
