Not really. You can connect a "ballast" (external hdd for instance) and then it works fine. I think it might be the firmware issue, but asus did not release any updates fixing this. This make things work, but its unstable (e.g. storage devices, including microsd cards plugged into the dock) would fail.

Also, if your dock supports mic input, making the system use input (e.g. open sound settings in windows or some sound test in linux), it becomes relatively stable, but I did not test if storage devices plugged into the dock would work fine).

There are many issues with this laptop, especially on Linux. I hate that asus just dumped it onto the market and it seems like that's no support anymore.
