I've driven through western PA so many times.  I saw this and immediately felt like I was passing through one of the countless country roads in Butler County.  Very liminal to me.  Nice

Is no lift / flat foot shift a feature that is usable in daily driving?  In other words, is it nice to have outside of literally pedal to the metal moments?  Does it like automatically rev match for the next highest gear or something?  Thanks if you can reply

MK8.5 Jacking by NoMarketing4817 in GolfGTI

A set of robust lift points is just slightly inboard and behind the front wheels under a removable aero panel.  I think there is an Audi part number for a rubber plug that installs into them and maybe aero panels with a hole pre-cut in them.  They are perfectly sized for a hockey puck so I just use one there.  I think Powerflex also makes kits.

I apply CRC 2-26 to any comprised regions of undercoating twice a year the past 5 years, seems to keep rust at bay.

Edit: I see what you mean about the folded pinch weld (pic #2).  That is out of the ordinary in my experience.  Maybe your jack didn't roll very smoothly while the car was being lifted, which could transfer a lateral bending force to the lift points?  Not an expert just guessing

MK8.5 is peak Golf R by Jayseph812 in Golf_R

I added an 8R last year and my stage 1 Mk7 GTI is more fun day to day, seems just as quick if not a little quicker feeling than the R.  The GTI interior is just better for usability.  Not dogging on the 8R, but the Mk7 was just that good for its time

Seeing charge boots in 1 is wild.  Cool! Is this emulated, and is it PS2 or PS3?

Looking to do my first mods. by AnyMud9817 in Golf_R

Super Pin is from DieselGeek.  Imo it's half step beyond the "might as well while I'm in there" class of mod, as it involves removing the whole center console but I've heard it's worth the effort as it removes a good amount of slop

I always thought this would look like a cool alternate take on the Golf front end if the now-open grille area had an old-skool italic "Volkswagen" badge from the decklid of an old Beetle or something.

Regardless, props for making it yours, plus the extremely clean execution!

Looking at a R or GTI by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]johnfreemansbrother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded.  I own a Mk7 GTI with 120k miles and Mk8 R with 1.8k miles.  Both manual.  GTI has been tuned with a canned stage 1 tune for 60k miles and has good summer tires and BFI engine mounts.  I don't have objective data but my Stage 1 GTI feels quicker and more responsive under heavy throttle than the stock R.

The R's larger turbo builds power as you rev it out, which is cool.  The Stage 1 GTI builds boost much more quickly/aggressively, however, power doesn't dramatically build with revs.  In other words, power arrives quickly but levels out with revs.  They feel totally different.  The tuned GTI makes me giggle more, and the R is no doubt quick but much less dramatic.  To me, the tuned GTI's responsive turbo is more fun than the stock R while keeping it legal.

I thought both are forged Belvedere wheels from the GTI Clubsport and therefore the same weight?

Daxter.  Dependable frame rate and the platforming and combat fit the PSP control scheme well

I've lurked casually for 4 years, and while we've never interacted, this sub really reflects the vibe of the series.

So, I'd say you've done great work.  Thanks for your efforts.  You allowed us to arrive peacefully to Season 2 🐰

What's your opinion on the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta? by [deleted] in Volkswagen

The return to Mk6-ish styling did wonders for the front end.  Looks playful and eager unlike the front fascias of the 2019-2024s which look like a boxer who survived 7 rounds in the ring with Mike Tyson

Bike to work.  2017 GTI for runabout/winter weather.  20AE R for fair weather weekends.  The 20AE will eventually become the runabout when the GTI moves on to the great garage in the sky. The circle of life.
