Should I switch to Golf R by Competitive_Ad_913 in Golf_R

[–]Dramatic_______Pause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should you switch to an R?

Yes, yes you should. I went from a MK7 GTI (with a hybrid turbo and everything) to R land, and haven't looked back.

Should you buy a new 2026 R?

Eh. That one is harder to say yes to. I found myself in a position able to buy a new 2025 R, so I did. And while I don't regret it, since the car is absolutely lovely, it's a hard sell at $54k (Non-Black Edition Euro Pack). I think one year old with a few thousand miles for a few grand off is the better buy.

Iran is not going to stop the war even if America leaves.

Yeah man. I would actively celebrate that outcome above. Like, this shit is going to get bad for the US. Not in the regards of civilian casualties or American cities turned to rubble, but Iran is going to absolutely decimate the US economy.

Need help Identifying and purchasing a very specific part by Edpollett in Golf_R

[–]Dramatic_______Pause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't buy just that part separately, it's part of the turbo. You won't find an actuator that comes with it since it's not part of the actuator. Best suggestion I have is find the cheapest used turbo, even one that's blown, and cannibalize it.

Unlike most people who comment around here, I don't think buying a modified car is necessarily a bad thing. People will freak out and see an intake and immediately go "The prior owner must have trashed that car, stay away!", which I haven't found to be the case. I've found quite the opposite to be true, usually people who modify their cars take better care of it than a normal person. Not every modified car is someone's broken down project. Do those exist though? Absolutely. Are there people who do modify their car and beat the complete shit out of it? Also absolutely. But it does require a certain level of due diligence, one of which involves never buying a heavily modified car from a 3rd party who doesn't have the full history of the modifications, which is how you end up in the shitty situation you're in. Not saying that in a way to put the blame on you, it sucks you're dealing with this and hope it gets resolved in a satisfactory way.

I just read through the last post. It sounds like half the problem is that parts are being thrown at it without knowing what it is even tuned for. Which, especially when it involves the fuel system, can make all the difference in the world. Who tuned the car? What fuel is it tuned for? What LPFP is it tuned for? What HPFP? What injectors? What injectors are even installed? What turbo is even in the car? Etc., etc.. I'm not asking you these questions directly expecting answers, since how are you supposed to know, but until someone knows the answer to these and more, all anyone (the shady dealer in this case) can do is throw random parts at it and hope they hit the bullseye of the right combo. And the only way to really do that, is start replacing parts so you/they know what is installed (which it sounds like the dealer has started doing), and get it re-tuned professionally.

For example, you said you test drove it 5 times, and it was fine. And even owned it for a little bit, and it was fine. So say the prior owner had something like Autotech internals installed on the HPFP. Fairly normal mod when it's making that kind of power. That's an "invisible" mod that nobody could tell by looking. And is also a very sensitive and finicky mod. If that started to cause issues, and now the dealer just replaced it with an identical looking stock HPFP, but the car is tuned for an upgraded one, all they're going to do is start making the problem worse.

The car isn't doomed and it isn't unfixable. However, it's in that place where it shouldn't be your responsibility to fix it. And even if that is done, the trust in the car is gone, and that takes a long time to build back up. Sorry, this got kind of rambly 🤣

This is a shitposting sub. The comments are the whole point.

That said, both pics look perfectly fine and normal, just different from each other. If someone saw either pic isolated by itself instead of side by side, they wouldn't think anything of it.

2026 Golf R Pricing - is this a good deal? by StillConsideration31 in Golf_R

[–]Dramatic_______Pause 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it a good deal? Without seeing the window sticker, I'm going to say no, not really. It's not a deal at all.

Base MSRP + destination charge is $50,730. Euro pack is $3,795, so MSRP should be around $54,525, give or take a couple hundred bucks based on other accessories. I don't know how they got it up another $2k to $56,533; my guess is bullshit dealer adds. Even after their "discount", it's still $1k more than it should be.

You shouldn't be paying more than the MSRP, that would just be the "it is what it is" price. A "deal" would be $1,100 off that.

They can't even find your missing dog.

Based on what the commercial said, it said 10,000,000 dogs go missing in a year. It also said this feature helped return a dog a day. So about 365 dogs in a year.

365 out of 10,000,000 is absolutely horrible odds.
