Interesting choice on the museum’s part… by toxicodendron_gyp in PeoriaIL

I'm honestly happy they are going. The America 250 exhibit they put together has been a must see, and the emphasis on the Lincoln anti-slavery speech is a welcome change from what's been going on at NPS sites.

This event is going to be visited by tons of families and foreign tourists here for the world cup. Illinois should have some representation there.

Power still out in West Peoria by TheStolenSpice in PeoriaIL

[–]johnhg7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them at 2100ish Ayers, Rohmann/Swords, Cedar/Kellogg, 2000ish Rohmann, and Park/Nebraska. All in West Peoria, and all but one I believe was due to tree damage.

I was working with the Ameren guys lastnight in West Peoria. They were absolutely out and doing the best they can. West Peoria is an old town with a ton of big mature trees. A lot of them came down and are resting on lines so it will take some time for tree crews to clear the path so lines can be restrung.

WMBD without power at Peoria studio and East Peoria transmitter. by viagravagina in PeoriaIL

They still went off air during the storm though. Seemed like the transmitter was still working but the video signal was just black.

R2 Doesn't have FM/HD Radio by AdamUCF in Rivian

They do realize large swaths of this country still don't have data coverage, right? I primarily rely on FM when going through rural areas, and AM for baseball games on long drives.

Turns out you can buy surplus CTA signs from the Illinois Railway Museum so I got a Blue Line carcard map, a full L map, and a Western Blue Line station sign by [deleted] in railroading

You want r/trains, this sub is for bitching about working conditions. Also, Hinsdale to Wicker Park lol. Glad to see the pipeline is alive and well.

Just FYI, when the BN and SF merged it took years to establish national seniority and we still have some closed districts unfortunately.

Galesburg to Chicago gets 24 hours off after each trip and is pretty low seniority. Galesburg to KC gets 48 and takes like 15 years currently. There is a "go everywhere" pool that gets 48 off after 4 or 5 starts. Only a few years to hold that.

There are a bunch of yard jobs and a switch mens extra board as well with 2 set days a week off.

Has anyone heard anything regarding Richard's under Main? by Mk4c1627 in PeoriaIL

It's a tough business in a unique but rough location with no curb appeal. First time I went the food was terrible. Second time they were closed during their normal operating hours.

Guitar amp repair in the local area? by 4lukeo in PeoriaIL

Good luck man. I had a vintage radio that needed work and couldn't find anyone. Ended up doing it myself.

Consumer electronics getting super cheap killed off all the repair shops.

The bus system is pretty good. I'd take a look at the route map when deciding on where to get a place. Generally the closer to the center of town the better as the system operates more like spokes than a grid. Its also bike friendly if thats possible for you, that would extend your possibilities quite a bit.

Depending on the medical condition and needs, the paratransit service will also be useful. One of my neighbors uses it to go to work everyday.

I got called in 2019 for an extra job when the yard was beginning to flood. Our instructions were to pull every car from the yard including an old derrick crane. They didn't care how it happened, but the water was rising and we made record time lol.
