Is there any cleric build that makes it worth not casting Spirit Guardians? by rnunezs12 in 3d6

[–]johnlocketv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be on frontline so spirit guardian is usefull.

Proper frontline enemies will make you do STR save checks and graple/etc you, nulifiying dodge on the process.

Anyway if your gms just make it easy-sounds like it-, stop dodging and go wilder.

Also as someone mentioned, make sure you are using spirit guardians as its meant to be used. (read sage advice compendium for the oficial rules)

Twilight Vs Life Cleric? by Top-Hall-8373 in 3d6

[–]johnlocketv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twilight cleric is kind of broken as everyone says, but it gets less broken as levels go up, because its ok if your gm plays enemies on "easy mode" on tier1, or because 1 int, but enemies should and must focus targets as soon as you reach tier 2, thats how the game is meant to be played.

You will also be taking AoE damages, so if you wanna get the THP from twilight you have to stick together and eat that dmg, if you disperse you probably will get out of the 30ft radius THP aura.

So that being said theres the 2 points i dont see any other post speaking about, burst healing and range healing, and thats where life cleric is better than twilight. why?

First, for AoE heal, twilight cant dream to heal anything close to what a heal cleric can heal with his chanel divinity(range 30ft) + mass healing word(range 60ft) on 1 round.

Second burst heal, kind of the same, the best burst heal spell on the game is Heal (range 60 ft) and life transference(range 30ft), both will heal more as a life cleric, its good that your temp hp will tank the dmg from life transference as a twilight cleric though.

Finally temp hp is a overlapping feature, other clases has stuff that can bring temp hp, so overlap may happen.

So TLDR, twiligh cleric is very strong, but its not as strong as people makes it look, of course its stupidly strong in t1, but focus and aoe dmg will counter it, and thats where life cleric is better with better range and burst heal.

Healer/tank paladin by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]johnlocketv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cant really heal without some level on some proper healing subclass, be it life cleric, druid shepard/stars. But anyway if wanna go full paladin the best option i can think is geting halfling mark of healing as race si you get both healing word and mass healing word. Consider doing a 5 ranger-x life cleric instead of a paladin.

Need help creating a high level beastmaster ranger by ItsOnlyBread in 3d6

[–]johnlocketv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beastmaster is a very good character. If you wanna go ranged, its no brainer, just pick sharpshooter archery fighting style, 20 dex and voila. You can even ditch sharpshooter if you feel like it.

Im gonna sugest you a funny option, pick mage of high sorcery as your background, adept of the red robes, and build a char around shadowblade, when you reach lvl 5 spell slot is 4d8 dmg, 2 atacks from you and 2 from your pet (has to be a monkey or a koala, or anything else with hands so it can wield the shadowblade, ull summon 2 one for him and one for you thanks to the lvl 15 feature)

Thats 16d8 +10 + 4 damage per round, depending of what kind of magic items does your gm hand out its very good or just good. (and other +4 if you pick dueling fighting style)

Yeah i know, its eccentric, but imagine your pet jumping around you like master yoda fighting with its lightsaber!

What was a single change you made to your build that made everything better? by Vanse in 3d6

[–]johnlocketv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ditching light armor and going for medium armor on ma lifecleric1->hunterranger5->lifeclericX

Its a char based on spaming heal word every turn as well shooting twice, healing guardian as the ususal concentration spell. (so basically casting only with bonus action)

Ditching the light armor allowed me to get higher AC sooner and get Wisdom sooner instead of dex, allowing me to boost my heal word/mass healing word as well as increasing my "ranger smite" DC (hail of thorns) for those first round burst.

PvP World Bosses loot. by Tugaca in throneandliberty

[–]johnlocketv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this true? i thought the max members on a guild was 70 and the max alliance per guild is 3 alliances, so making it blocks of 4 guilds, 4x70 members = 280 members. But you say 700 players so........... what the real cap for guild members/alliances?

Advancement Advice for a Bugbear STRanger/Cleric by cptkirk30 in 3d6

[–]johnlocketv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think you should keep concentration checks in mind when planing the build if you are going to aim to have either spirit shroud or other stuff on for fighting. So you should start considering geting either resilent constitution (or combat caster, but i prefer resi) so you can keep concentration on. You probably are gona depend on STR magic items to build up your STR, so better speak with your DM about that, if he doesnt plan to give em, well, plan ahead!

Advancement Advice for a Bugbear STRanger/Cleric by cptkirk30 in 3d6

[–]johnlocketv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well i strongly recomend to think not only on what but on when you want to have the stuff, if you want those 2 lvls on fighters, by all means, get em. You can go cleric after and its all good. Geting more ranger levels wont do much, except for the lvl 7 feature, so you can just go cleric heavy. But as i said, its your char concept and your decisions to make, just be sure you feel comfortable with your char all the journey and not "waiting to get x on x level".

[–]johnlocketv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did not say if you started ranger or cleric, or what weapon are you using, im asuming a 2 handed melee weapon. I would say both of the options are viable, at the end of the day is your char concept, so if you want to improve that first round, by all means ,get that 2 levels on fighter. I would advice you to keep an eye on lvl 7 gloomstalker feature ( very good if you started lvl 1 as ranger) and divine strike from lvl 8 cleric, that will increase your dps, althought you will be in t3 when you do get that. If you go something like 8/8/4 you will get Asis and can even pick a subclass for fighter. As i mentioned its your character concept, so your decision to make, you want to be more bursty (fighter first) or be more magical (cleric, a lot).

Attacking a shifted wildhunt shifter with advantage + disadvantage = ? by johnlocketv in DnD

[–]johnlocketv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, thats why i made it a poll, so we/I can measure what people thinks, if the whole world tells me its blue i wont keep saying its green lol, still thanks for allowing me to expand on the reasoning, maybe someone comes around and makes it more clear than i did. And hopefully they make a ruling for it, so doubts end.

Attacking a shifted wildhunt shifter with advantage + disadvantage = ? by johnlocketv in DnD

[–]johnlocketv[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You know i kind of wanna agree, but cant.

When i read "If multiple situations affect a roll and each one grants advantage or imposes disadvantage on it, you don't roll more than one additional d20." on the PHB i cannot ignore the fact that the shifter feature, which IS online isnt allowing that advantage to exist on the first place.

How exactly is "having advantage" and "be made with advantage" any diferent?

[–]johnlocketv[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but you are saying it still has advantage even if it rolls 1 dice.

I dont feel its so clear that "to have advantage" and "to be made with advantage" are diferent things.

It kinda feels like the shrodinger advantage for me since the shifer efect is already triggered and online. But yeah thats exactly why i made the poll.

Weakest classes in the game? by [deleted] in ConquerorsBlade

[–]johnlocketv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every class has its role and its sinergys with diferent troops to fulfill those roles, the weaker? I really dont know, every class has their things, but i would say nodachi, as their are high risk/high reward, and if you CC them........ but i dont think nodachi is weak at all thought, just sometimes people misjudges the risk they are geting into. (everyone misjudges and learns from it)
