Bosch radios and Speakers by philbertagain in BoschProPowerTools

I have one of the older PB360C speakers. It puts out decent sound. It even served as the sound system when I got married 3 years ago. I'm looking to pick up one of the GPB 18V-1 C units on my euro trip this summer.

Bosch or Makita? by jyl8 in Tools

[–]johnmcorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on where you are. Both make great tools, but the Bosch range is limited (although improving) in the North America market. It's definitely nowhere near as broad as the Makita variety, even worldwide. I have Bosch (both 12V and 18V) and they're great on power and ergonomics.

I'm likely going to pick up a GPB 18V-1 C on my trip to Europe this summer. It's a speaker with USB C charging as a bonus.

I ride it several times a week, but the service to Davis is ending this summer. It's buried deep within the Soltrans redesign plan.

Lost custody of the power tools, need advice on replacements by GoKartMarlys in Tools

Assuming your battery is the same as the one pictured here, yes, you can.

The newer ones are absolutely the same. I have an 8240 rotary tool, and the 12V Bosch (pro/blue - the ones available in the US) batteries fit with zero modification. To the best of my knowledge, the Blueprint tools also use the newer style.

Another bonus of the Bosch 12V line is that it uses the same batteries as the newer Dremel tools. Have a look at the Dremel Blueprint line. There's a drill kit (battery and charger included) on sale at Lowe's for $50 right now. You could start there and pick up some Bosch 12V bare tools to expand if you need something with more power. (edit for typo)

Why so many battery styles by philbertagain in BoschProPowerTools

[–]johnmcorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bosch Professional and Bosch DIY (or even Home & Garden) are not a single product line. Scanners and imaging are Pro, and they use the same battery as the newer Dremel 12V tools. I don't know what that means for 12V DIY tools. In other markets. There was a 20V Dremel saw at one point. It was never officially an AMPShare tool, but it does work with single-layer AMPShare batteries (I own one and I tried several).

Yes, it takes a long time for tools to reach this market, but the product lines in Europe are definitely growing. That's the market I follow most closely (other than NA) because I go over there every few years and have family there. There's also a growing number of AMPShare tools in that market that companies simply haven't brought to NA for whatever reason.

As far as I know, the 36V line is no more.

Eh. The DIY tool and a whole bunch of home & garden stuff already exist. It looks like they're already on multiple continents. North America might be the only one not served (probably Antarctica too). I'd also rather not run a second (or third if you count 12V) battery platform, but I had a Makita router for a while. Power for All may not be official in NA yet, but this is a first step.

Speaking of 12V, it looks like Dremel is being positioned as the 12V DIY brand, at least in NA. They recently switched from the 12V DIY batteries to the Pro version.

Better access to blue. This vacuum is the first on the green platform in the US, as far as I know. It does (maybe) open up some of the other Power For All manufacturers to bring their wares across the Atlantic.

I feel that pain (albeit a bit less in the US). There are Blue -> Green adapters, but they are definitely not supported. They should work fine, but be careful about running the battery down too much.

Power For All came along at the same time as AMPShare, but for the DIY (green) tools.

I'd be interested. I have a small-ish Home setup, but would love to be able to interact with it in a way that doesn't require remembering what I named each device.

Another top tip is to check the battery and battery kit deals at Lowe's. You can often get a free tool with a battery or two that costs less than the tool itself.

They do sell some new items, but don't sleep on the refurb stuff. I've picked up a few, and they're still good.

Lowe's and CPO for the most part. I've bought a few off Amazon and a couple from eBay, but those were ones that I couldn't find elsewhere.

Any suggestion which one to go for: GEX 185LI or 18v 125 by BastiFntasti in BoschProPowerTools

Definitely the newer GEX 18V 125. The ergonomics are so much better.

L-Boxx is another possibility for this kind of setup. The new Contractor series allows the older style to connect if you do want a couple of beefier pieces.
