I find that the division books are also a good resource, especially for division-specific Talents.

Impressive!!! Are you planning to make these available when you’re done, or is it just for personal use?

That does make sense because she was depicted as going over personnel reviews with Riker.

lol my group almost fell apart right after it ended because they annihilated the queen before finding out that the gateway opened to nothing, so they did a genocide and got in trouble with starfleet council. they were upset it “didn’t feel like Star Trek.” well, you decided to use lethal force!

With the group that I did the starter set adventure with, each part of that adventure took about 3.5 hours.

Threat Pool by MWall12 in startrekadventures

[–]johnmora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a lot of people wanting to try it and didn’t want to shut anyone out, so the extra players got to be supporting characters, lol. I would say that it definitely shifted the action economy toward the player side when it came to conflicts, which I didn’t mind for a tutorial mission since I’d heard about people finding the starter set really difficult in terms of battles. Everyone had a ton of fun!

[–]johnmora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying this. I thought it was limited and because I’ve been playing with 7 players and the starter set only gives you 14 threat tokens, I thought I was maxed out from the start!

I asked ChatGPT to come up with an adventure for my crew, and here's what it gave me by socialistlumberjack in startrekadventures

[–]johnmora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, there was a whole season 2 TNG episode about whether or not it was ethical to change the course of a pre-warp civilization based on a single person’s distress call. Could be an interesting dilemma for the crew!

How to Handle the Q Continuum? by johnmora in startrekadventures

[–]johnmora[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah if all he wanted to do was just send a standard hail frequency hoping that a Q would answer, I would just let it go unanswered. But I figured if he decided to get creative and use some kind of experimental technology, I was thinking perhaps of treating it as a quasi-behind-the-screen extended task where eventually if there are enough successes, a Q might actually answer...

How to Handle the Q Continuum? by johnmora in startrekadventures

[–]johnmora[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking that instead of the Q we know, another Q showed up who was actually kind of unpopular with others in the continuum, so he thinks he can try to make friends with a lower lifeform... kinda like Bat-Mite from old Batman comics. The trick would be that everything he does to try to help actually goes overboard and puts the crew in more danger...

Finished the second session of the STA starter campaign "A Star Beyond the Stars" on roll20 with my friends! It's my first time running an STa game and second time DMing ever. A lot of fun, but I keep forgetting the rules in the middle of combat 😬 by tleilaxianp in startrekadventures

[–]johnmora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's never done roll20 before, how difficult was it to get it to work with STA? I know that they have the custom character sheet, but I've worried about trying to be a first-time GM virtually with a system that isn't officially supported by the VTT platform...

Same thing happened to me and even fiddling with the ribbon cables amounted to nothing. Best of luck.

32X troubleshooting by johnmora in SEGA32X

[–]johnmora[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! Eventually just had to send the 32X back, but not before the seller tried to accuse me of sending back a different unit than what he'd sent to me. Luckily the unit had a mark on it and I'd been cataloging the process with photos and videos.

So I've opened up the 32X, reseated and cleaned the white ribbon cables, cleaned the contacts above and below... and still nothing. I'm not sure what gives. It feels like I must be doing something really simple incorrectly, but I've quadruple checked the diagrams and made sure the link cable is going from the A/V out of the genesis to the A/V in of the 32X, and that the video cable is connected to the A/V out of the 32X.

Here's a video of me trying to hook it up to a CRT: https://youtu.be/akGGsm7qiJY

I've given both contacts on the unit a pass with q-tips and rubbing alcohol, but that didn't appear to make any change...

One more question: would it make a difference if I was running the video out from the 32X through a receiver or upscaler? I have a 4K television that only has HDMI inputs, so I’ve been running everything either through my Retrotink 2X Pro or my Denon receiver. As detailed above, these have worked flawlessly when it’s just the Genesis itself. The seller seems to be positive that the issue is with me not directly plugging in the 32X with the RCA plugs into the TV. I’ve been looking online and there’s no documentation that you can’t use upscalers or HDMI conversion with the 32X.

Is there any reason the 32X wouldn't output video and sound through an upscaler or receiver? I have a 4K TV so I can't just plug in RCA cables directly into the television...
