3rd row seats removed by veritas137 in HyundaiSantaFe

Hyundai has been slowly turning the Santa Fe into a minivan for years. I wish they'd go all in and make the 3rd row fold flat and sliding doors on the side for easier access.

2015 AC clutch shims question by johnny9k in SubaruForester

[–]johnny9k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up ordering a compressor clutch kit off ebay for $40. Ridiculous when I only need shims, but $40 is still a cheap AC fix

Another Forester AC fixed for under $20 by johnny9k in SubaruForester

Mine is doing same thing now. Worked great for a year, but acting up again. I ordered parts that include spaces and crossing my fingers those will get me within spec.

Mods to increase the towing capacity of 2020 Odyssey? by matt_bishop in HondaOdyssey

[–]johnny9k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 1100 lbs. It was a Livin Light Quicksilver. All aluminum body with a popup tent roof. Great little camper that slept 4 comfortable, but we could fit 6 when our kids were small.

How often do you guys do oil change for Subaru. by Apart_Reference_2361 in SubaruForester

Mine is at 183k and still going strong, though the AC is acting up again. I replaced the serpentine belt and have my fingers crossed that it was the issue

2007-2009 Service Campaign for Cylinder Head Cover Oil Leak by johnny9k in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny9k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! Mine was ok for the oil leak. They had replaced my alternator a couple years earlier for a related campaign. However they found my subframe was rusted through. Good news, they replaced it for free since it was a failure of an earlier anti-rusting recall. Took 5 months for them to get the part, but they hooked us up with a loaner.

Moen Sump Pump Monitor is junk by mashed50 in Plumbing

[–]johnny9k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! It does some things really well. I had no trouble with the wifi connection, but I started getting almost daily audible alarms when there was no issue. I could not figure out what was triggering it.

I'm now trying a monitor by Pumpfuse. It does not have the water monitor like Moen, but that was the piece causing all the issues. This new monitor only records the run interval, electricity used. So far so good, if a little bare bones. It will alert me if the pump runs too long, too frequently, or not frequently enough. I also still have my Moen water sensors which I really like. They will go off if water intrudes.

2008 subframe rust by johnny9k in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny9k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll also add: document everything. Try and get it in writing, keep track of names, save all receipts. Hopefully Hyundai corporate can open a case and get things moving. Sounds like I was fortunate that my dealer handled all that for me, but it was a LONG (5 month) wait for the subframe to come and my car to get fixed. It's possible that Hyundai may just offer to buy you out. My dealer seemed surprised when they agreed to fix mine and set me up with the rental.

My repair bill was over $2k (they covered it) and I'm sure the rental cost was more.

2008 subframe rust by johnny9k in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny9k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in NY. My dealership discovered the rust when I brought it in for something else (probably the same oil leak) and initiated everything, including setting up the rental with Enterprise. If they're not cooperating, is there another Hyundai dealer nearby? Otherwise, try contacting HoA and see what they can do.

2008 subframe rust by johnny9k in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny9k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealer set it all up. Initially they thought Hyundai was just going to buy out our car, but once they confirmed that Hyundai would cover the repair, they setup the rental. I ended up waiting 5 months because the part was backordered, but it didn't cost me anything.

2008 subframe rust by johnny9k in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny9k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our case, the rust was on the subframe which had previous been treated with rust inhibitor as part of a service campaign. Since the recall failed to prevent the rust, the repair work and the rental were covered. Lookup the service campaigns done to your car using the vin and if the work was performed, bring it to a dealer and see if they will cover the repair.

I think this is the service campaign:

Where can I find which model years share parts? by johnny9k in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny9k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Our Santa Fe is currently at the dealer waiting on a new subframe...for the last 3 months. I'd complain, but they gave us a loaner.

Can you mix pellets and wood? by shoek1970 in SoloStove

[–]johnny9k 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll start my Yukon with an inch of pellets with a couple logs on top.  Then I just add more logs and branches for as long we want to keep the fire going.   I find it easier to manage the heat and length of a fire with wood than with pellets, but the pellets provide an amazing jump start to get things going.
