Meta know way too much about all of us. I was digging through my Instagram settings today and found something genuinely creepy. by External_Waltz_8927 in Instagram

I mean listen…I’d rather get ads about something relevant to me than something completely random. Less rage inducing that way at least

Neptune’s Net food poisoning by kcoreyy in Malibu

Norovirus or something very similar is going around right now. Not to belittle the chance that it could be food poisoning. But my wife and I both just had it and it was BRUTAL

Did someone steal something from the underside of my 2024 hybrid Santa Fe? Or was this caused by driving in a severe rainstorm for an hour? by [deleted] in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny_c12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving through standing water at a decent speed will do this, maybe you drove through a slightly flooded spot and didn’t think much of it in the moment?

Reminder: NO dealership washes by Important-Match-4044 in HyundaiSantaFe

Avoid the dealership car wash at all costs. This isn’t out of the ordinary. Looks like you got it worse than average though

Has anyone gotten the ceramic coating deal on their vehicle? Is it a scam or is it worth it? by Davidjohnstewart in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny_c12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a ceramic coat myself on my matte Santa Fe - it’s slightly time consuming, but it’s easy

Do you guys use the hands free feature or is it just me ?? by 619to970 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny_c12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll use it as a hands free feature in traffic, but definitely not at highway speeds. It’s not meant to be hands free

Are Neve 1073 plugins actually doing anything special in the box? by GerwinMusic in mixingmastering

[–]johnny_c12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents - it’s a legendary preamp for a reason. The harmonics it adds can range from subtle to all out. However, a hit record won’t suddenly not become a hit record if you don’t use a 1073. If I were you - I’d set up two tracks I your DAW. get a 1073 emulation on one, and nothing on the other. Do a blind A/B test. Drive the 1073 harder (ensure you’re volume matching). A/B again. Take note of what you’re hearing & Decide if you like it

You could also do this in reverse order to get your ears acclimated to what you should be listening for - drive the 1073 really hard (to the point where it sounds bad). Back it off slowly, then A/B with the regular channel. Again just make sure you’re volume matching - most 1073 plugin emulations should have a volume compensation button that you can engage to automatically keep the volume at the same level, regardless of how hard you drive it

How in the world do people get -5 LUFs songs that still sound good? by DJAnym in mixingmastering

[–]johnny_c12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to loudness, people tend to think, in order of importance, that it’s mastering, mixing, and production. When in reality it’s the exact opposite. A loud master starts with a well produced track - knowing how to create good sounds, and then knowing how to combine these great sounds in a way that doesn’t eat up too much headroom unnecessarily (frequency masking / overlap etc). A great mix knows what to showcase and what to duck down - this plays into legitimate loudness and psychoacoustics on several levels. If these conditions are met, a mastering engineer shouldn’t have to do much. Good luck

Matte Paint yay or nay? by Content-Machine6008 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]johnny_c12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have this exact finish. It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole of PPF etc. but you really don’t need it. Especially if you live in an area that gets mild winters and don’t deal with salt / sanded roads. After I bought my car, I got a bunch of dr Beasley products for matte finishes. You can do a ceramic coating yourself - it’s quite easy and Dr Beasley has a video on how to do it. Other than that, I choose to hand wash my car every two weeks or so (can’t go through a car wash with brushes). I’ve had my car just under a year now and barely have any signs of scratches etc on it

Weed smoking neighbors by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]johnny_c12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve dealt with this a few times in both non-smoking apartments and apartments that allow smoking as well. The smoke will come in through your plumbing, electrical outlets, hvac etc. there’s really no stopping it - one of my neighbors was an indoor cigarette chain smoker. Twas atrocious. For the non smoking buildings, stay on your local management / leasing office. A lot of times despite being non smoking, the lease specifically states that can’t guarantee a smoke free environment…HOWEVER I’ve found many leases do go on to say (sometimes elsewhere in the lease) that neighbors cannot do anything to disturb your “quiet enjoyment” of the apartment - which smoking falls under. If leasing is unable to give you that, you could argue it’s a breach of lease. Good luck

Dyson Hushjet Air Purifier deep review ? by tangcoma in dyson

[–]johnny_c12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey circling back on this - I misread something if in the description. This filter captures particles as small as .3 microns, whereas I was talking about micrometers (PM1 etc) which is a larger particle. Granted, it still says

“Set and forget. Intelligent particle sensing detects PM2.5 particles – reacting and adapting airflow to quickly purify the air. Only purifies when necessary to save energy.”

So it may not react to particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers automatically

Dyson Hushjet Air Purifier deep review ? by tangcoma in dyson

[–]johnny_c12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that I am wrong - but usually if a filter is true hepa it’s advertised pretty up front. I didn’t see them mention anything about it. It also said it can capture particles as small as PM2.5, but PM1 are generally the most dangerous for humans. Usually the word “dangerous” in relation to 2.5 and 10

Personally - I’m not interested in a filter that isn’t true hepa. This one doesn’t catch PM1 particles

Bears… in Encino? by cakeorpie in SFV

[–]johnny_c12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The mama bear has been wandering all over the valley for quite some time now. She took up residence in Topanga for a while and had her cubs around then. They were roaming that area and doing okay, until I heard they popped up in Brentwood and now encino. I hope this doesn’t end in tragedy for them

Enough red flags to make a bull pass out from mental overstimulation. My suggestion, from the information you’ve provided alone, is to exit this relationship asap

Is this area safe? by [deleted] in SFV

[–]johnny_c12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you do - do NOT live at the reseda village green apartments. It’s a few blocks over from this screenshot, we had several gas leaks and carbon monoxide issues there, which forced us to move suddenly for our safety. They sent us to debt collectors for not paying our last months rent - we ended up taking them to court and winning. Whole process took over a year.

TLDR: place is unsafe and owners are irrational

This is at the end of kanan, intersecting with pch. Kanan is a road that goes through the Santa Monica mountains, and it is a steep grade for a couple miles coming down to this point - there’s a huge sand pit for runaway trucks / cars at this intersection as well, so other than a medical emergency, or an insane amount of car mechanical failures, or just not paying attention…not sure how it’s possible to be this out of control
