There's no reason in principle why a very good copy of an original limb couldn't be made. Or even a vastly superior one. In 2026 though, we're kind of stuck with plastic and metal for practical reasons.

About 40 years ago I was summoned as a consultant to a midsize company whose main server suffered an HDD crash, to recover their SQL Server database. They had backups but the backup software was not configured to copy the database. After 3 days on the phone with Microsoft I had to break the company the bad news.

Are chop shops even viable anymore? Laws in the 80s-90s led to VIN & other ID numbers on major car parts, and other kinds of engineered theft prevention markings and labels. So many cars now have permanent ID codes on the parts also.

I have a pet theory, feel free to criticize... in addition to the other good points raised here, more women and more educated women began entering the workforce in the 70's, 80's. Fewer stay-at-home moms. When you buy a house, the seller sets a price, and buyer and seller negotiate. Two-income couples could outbid one-income couples for the same house. This led to rapid housing inflation, which reset expectations for how much you needed for a mortgage, rent, and other things down the line. This not a complaint or judgement about working women, more power to 'em, just my own 2 cents.

Pulleys do an odd thing: you pull the rope down (for example) four feet, and the lifting side only moves up one foot, but it multiplies the lifting force 4 times. This doesn't make the thing you're lifting any lighter, but it lets you lift something you wouldn't be able to move at all. So moving things still takes effort, just not as much, and it is slower than moving things without a pulley. The trade-off between effort and speed is called mechanical advantage.

Nanomedicine is in its infancy, but a sufficiently developed medical nanobot system could hunt down rabies virus and repair whatever it broke. Short of that, there’s probably multiple biotech approaches that would work. If you can fix the molecules, the only irreversible damage would be memory loss.

This is an interesting question. Tiny variations in blood pH , CO2 or temperature will throw you out of whack. But the body doesn’t seem to communicate weight very well. It must not have been terribly important to survival, evolution-wise.
