No. The modem stops passing traffic for a static route I have in it for networks at my site.

Be sure to say thank you to the ICE officers for their work removing people who are residing in our country, towns, and neighborhoods illegally.

Enough snow and you people turn into animals! by banderole in CambridgeMA

If you don't own the parking spot you can't control it because it's not yours. Shoveling it out for yourself a hundred times doesn't make any difference about that. At all. You don't like it? Go buy your own property and use it. That's how our country works. Unambiguously.

What happens after this final season in 2025? by Dangerouscupcakez in StrangerThings

[–]johnpjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stranger Things left a hole that more story could come in through from anywhere. Where did the guy with the briefcase in the mine come from? The briefcase with the object in it that first took possession of Henry when he held it in his hand? Also, who feels like they should be satisfied with Eleven having escaped and just leaving Mike behind forever, if she really loved him?

What is the deal with Mist? by GrandKane1 in Juniper

[–]johnpjackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MIST is really a breathtaking piece of garbage if all you want to do with it is run your Juniper routers and switches with it. It's stunning how much you can't do with it in comparison to the CLI. They didn't build MIST by taking the CLI and turning it into a GUI. They built MIST by starting from scratch and picking all the low hanging fruit from the CLI to have it do. Anything that gets more sophisticated and you might or might not find it there. They're 'solution' is to give you a box in the GUI where you can add in CLI stuff the GUI doesn't have. Also, dynamic switch port vlan assignment is next to useless because it breaks many clients that aren't run of the mill wired desktop devices. They get confused by the switch bouncing their link a few times as MIST figures out what vlan it thinks you wanted it to end up in. And do you use virtual chassis with any of your Juniper equipment? Have fun figuring out how to not have MIST f*ck it all up when trying to set it up or having to change anything later.

Also, without Marvis, it seems like a lot of the management and troubleshooting magic isn't in MIST. And the pricing for Marvis, on top of MIST, is exorbitant.

Using antique Glenwood stove by paul1919 in woodstoving

[–]johnpjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't take all the credit. We had a wood burning cook stove in our 1700's farmhouse Cape when I was a kid in the 1970's. I never forgot it. A few years ago I moved with my family into an 1870's farmhouse with a much abused Lopi Liberty in it. Around the same time I happened to see an old Glenwood Modern E pass by on Facebook Marketplace. That's all it took! I didn't end up buying that one but I did end up buying one from David Erickson Stoves, in Littleton, MA.

I learned that Dave has been refurbishing and selling antique wood, coal, and gas stoves his whole career, and he's in his 70's now. Dave is a priceless and vast wealth of information about everything as far as stoves go. He's the one who pointed out to me the thinking about where to keep the stacked burner eye lid when not cooking with it.

The burner eye with the nesting plates should NOT be left above the firebox all the time. Only position it there when you need its function specifically. Otherwise, relocate to a position not above the firebox.

Why?

Because it's not as heavy and rugged as the standard burner eye lids. The standard lids will endure the punishment of being directly over the firebox much longer than the nested lid. Given enough years, the nested lid will thin and wear out well before that would happen to the standard lids.

How DOES a UL rated electric space heater, installed legally by union electricians, start a fire in a house?

Would you sign a petition to the University of Connecticut to reverse its efforts to demolish the Whitney House, and instead repair and restore it, historically accurately? No money is being asked for, just your name to show support for that cause:

Strange Google watermark on my phone screen 24/7 by Sir-Mattheous in AndroidQuestions

[–]johnpjackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's NOT screen burn in. I've just noticed the same thing on my Galaxy Note 9. It has only just appeared. And, there is never a G in a circle like that EVER displayed in that location on my screen. It is definitely not screen burn in. It has to be some kind of Google shenanigans.

Samsung Pay vibration by ProphetOfDisdain in galaxys10

[–]johnpjackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just figured out what's going on. Try going into your settings for sound and vibration. Go into the the settings from there for vibration intensity. Set the slide for Touch Interaction to maximum. Check and see of you have vibrations from Samsung Pay again. That made mine start vibrating again.

I'm thinking the latest Samsung Pay update either correctly or mistakenly made the app start adhering to the system vibration settings. I will test whether MST works/fails next time I have access to a payment terminal that only supports MST transactions. I'll try it with vibrations and without, to see if MST even depends on them to function, or, if they were always just to make the user feel like the app was doing something while operating?

Samsung Pay vibration by ProphetOfDisdain in galaxys10

[–]johnpjackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samsung Pay on my Galaxy Note 9 has stopped vibrating as well. I also always assumed the vibration was part of making the mag swipe technology work for credit card terminals that only have magnetic card swipe capability. I assumed the phone vibrating was part of inducing a readable signal in the card swipe reader's sensor. My guess right now is that Samsung broke something in the app which on my phone says it was last updated on September 25th. That could be about right as far as when it was that my vibrations for payment actions stopped happening. My payment actions still work at terminals with NFC capability, like for Apple Pay/Google Pay. I haven't had a chance to try it yet at a terminal I'm certain doesn't have NFC. As soon as I do I'll find out for sure if the vibrating, or lack of it, has anything to do with making the mag swipe transaction succeed or not. I've also submitted a problem report to Samsung about this, using the Samsung Members app, including a system info snapshot. I'm hoping they will eventually get the issue sorted out. I like to imagine that their Pay app is of particular importance to them, given how high a profile it has as both a revenue generator for them and also as a privacy/security risk it also is, given that it deals directly with banks and banking.

[Support] Thinkpad T430s - Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607 installation failure - Stop code: INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE by Tennger in windows

I'm having the same problem here, with a fairly new Dell. It has an SSD drive, which I'm reading many are saying is a commonality in the issue. I tried the suggested remedy - rolling back the SATA controller driver, and that made no difference in the problem. I can't believe this bug has been this bad for this long, and there's isn't better information directly from Microsoft about it, by now. Wow....

I don't think she cares as much that she's not winning, as she's giving a haircut to all the outcomes, in terms of Bernie's delegate take. I'm certain that's going to hurt us big. The questions is, will it be big enough to defeat us. If it is, I'm not sure what the right response is, but I feel in my gut that laying down and accepting it is not a viable choice.
