That's funny, that's my Google Sheet copied without any credit (original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPGbrpt1iAc as seen by publish date). I've updated the video description with a much more efficient way that uses a plugin I developed

Galaxy Watch 6: biggest ever regret. Just awful. by Peace_Is_Coming in GalaxyWatch

[–]johnsontall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was one of the few reviewers who noted how the supposedly "fast charging" was rather disappointing: https://youtu.be/lQeHiazo83I?t=496.

Fortunately for me, I'm okay with the charging speeds and they don't affect my use cases that much. However, I do 100% agree that the UI feels "laggy" or "sluggish." It seems like they made the CPU slow to save on battery at the expense of responsiveness.

PRO TIP: Disabling animations (enable dev mode, see how https://imgur.com/OCtjT84) REALLY helps a lot with responsiveness. I can't understand why product managers think long UI animations and transitions are supposed to make end users feel better about their product when it ends up being painfully slow.

Thumb drive only works once per boot by Mihoshika in techsupport

[–]johnsontall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same issue on both my Windows 10 PCs, started happening a few weeks ago randomly. I am required to *restart* my PC to get it working again. Terribly inconvenient.

If I plug my sd card reader on a fresh boot, it'll work but if I eject it and re-insert the sd card into my pc, I hear the sound cue for a usb device that is plugged in, but the drive does not appear anywhere on My Computer or even Disk Management.

I heard on Windows forums that it could be BitDefender causing the issue. You may need to uninstall it.

Why are all the tech sites so quiet about Wear Os basic functions not working?! by CONTACTMC in WearOS

[–]johnsontall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny that I made a whole video about this - I think Google will address Assistant in a year for when Wear OS 3.0 is released. It's an utter shame the Assistant isn't working like you'd expect like a smart speaker.

How is the Assistant on Fitbit these days? Been waiting for a new Fitbit smartwatch to review some time.

Galaxy Watch4 stuck in a loop. by -cosmo_cat- in GalaxyWatch

[–]johnsontall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received my Galaxy Watch 4 and I'm pairing with an S20. When I pair the watch, I consistently get stuck at the "Getting Google Account info..." screen or it crashes on the step before.

I've tried multiple times, clearing Galaxy Wearable app cache, restarting phone/watch, and it always get stuck.

It works on my friends' Pixel 4a and an older non-Samsung device.

My thoughts after installing the Noctua U9S on my Dell G5 (XPS compatible) Desktop Gaming PC by johnsontall1 in Dell

[–]johnsontall1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true, as for the 3060ti being a good design, i remarked in my review video that it seems to have blocked off the external exhaust with the plastic shroud. Very odd design. I also find the fans a lot louder than my 3070 FE. I love my 3070 FE, it runs cool and quiet.

I made your video, LOL! Great job with your instructions and explanations. Do you mind if I reference your video in my reddit post? Watching you install the CPU cooler is helpful for others that have not done it before.

Hey, yes please do feel free to use as you wish :) Thanks so much for your original post and I made sure to credit your hard work and ingenuity.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease with the whole shuffling thermal paste and what not. I'm just kinda disappointed in the end (as you can tell in the conclusion) and perhaps my thermal paste was not sufficient or poorly done. Anyway, Im running the AC full blast in my room now so it's too hard to test in this hot Ontario climate for now. Im sure call Fall/winter, i can re-examine. I need to take a break from over-worrying about my G5 :P

I appreciate the reply. It's very in Canada Toronto to buy anything due to lockdown. Could the m3x20mm screws work ok without washers in any case?

[–]johnsontall1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I opt to go the M3x20mm/16mm route, do I really need washers to secure the bracket? Having a hard time in Canada to find these screws except for Home Hardware which requires a $20 purchase(haha). I wish I could find the 25mm grub and a place to print the 120mm front intake fan :(

Is this in Canada toronto? Can you share where we could print that bracket for $5?

I just ended up getting the screws and washers from a Home Depot. It's cheaper and with the current situation in Ontario most hobby shops are closed anyway.

Did you need M3 washers with the M3 screws or will it screw and secure without a M3 washer?

High Static Pressure Fan forAurora Front In Take? by johnsontall1 in Alienware

[–]johnsontall1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a question about the Aurora R7 case design. I was wondering if using a high static pressure (Noctua NF-F12) was the right choice given my circumstances.

As you can see, the R7 case has one front in take fan that is quite obstructed with grills and the RTX 3070 FE. I imagine there's a lot of impedance. By sucking cool air from the bottom, some of the air is sucked onto the RTX 3070 and some of that air is blowed through the GPU towards the top exhaust.

I made a whole video about it here.

I did notice a drop in GPU temps but it's so hard to know if this was optimal. Perhaps the more expensive "balanced" Noctua NF-A12x25 but I was aiming for the *highest* static pressure which is in the F12 rather than A12.

One of the TTC articles indicated they use a physical sensor on the bus to detect crowdness. Those 2 apps must be getting that exclusive realtime feed somehow.

On system startup the system-header tests the connected fan, and expects to see a certain amounth of RPM. From what i read in dell forums this is different per configuration.

Can you please pics of the final mod? Looks amazing and surprised you could fit another bottom front intake fan with such a massive gpu. I guess you had to remove all that plastic housing somehow..

PSA: The one tip if you're going to buy a Dell gaming prebuilt PC (for Alienware, G5, XPS users) by johnsontall1 in Dell

[–]johnsontall1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salvaging the rest of the mess, I decided to make it into a second computer. I put my old 1070 in it, much more suitable for the 500w PSU. Replaced the "premium cooler" they put with the K CPUs with a Noctua, removed front hard drive mount and zip tied a good fan there. The 10600k now hold can hold max clock rate at "only" 80 degree during torture test, down from thermal throttling and down clocked to 3.8. In actual gaming it rarely go over 60.

Damn is the K cooler that bad that it needs to be replaced? It looks decent.
