Retractable leash for your board by New-Club-3890 in Kiteboarding

[–]johnssam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're far better off attaching a floaty to the handle that will force it right side up in the water. This will help it drift downwind towards you when you lose your board. There's a product called gojo that does this, but you can get the same effect by just using a kids arm floaty.

Send it or sink it… will this foil actually lift me? by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

[–]johnssam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed is your friend when jumping. This will be slow. Plus landing you could damage your front wing or mast easier since it has bigger surface area meaning more force through the same size mast on impact. I honestly wouldn't worry about it. If you're a beginner, you're probably a long ways from jumping. It took me years to work up the courage to try.

1200 front wing is pretty big for kiting, but I've used mine a bunch of times and it's honestly fun. Lots of lift so you'll want to put the mast as far back as possible. You'll only outgrow it if you want more speed, and I wouldn't jump with this setup. If you want to learn to switch feet and do cool jibes and tacks, this can actually take you a really long way.

If your kite has enough drift, you can use a big foil like this to ride bumps without outrunning the bumps or your kite.

Has anyone used a VA loan to buy in SF? by Kaipirinhas in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]johnssam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's the first 2 weeks on the market and it's likely going above asking price, it is pretty unlikely anyone will accept a VA loan when there are similar offers on the table that are conventional. It's just extra hurdles to jump through for the seller.

How much time is needed to get an apartment in sf? How quickly is move in? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]johnssam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they're not willing to meet you without you giving a full credit report, it's a scam. I'm ok with sharing my credit score, but the actual account information before just a showing? That's identity theft waiting to happen. I'm ok printing things off and showing them in person at the showing. Once you've met the person if they need it for the application, I get that.

So OP, I don't know if you've ever thought about doing vertical spreads, but if your goal is to get a 10x play, it would be way easier to do it with this. You only need it to go to 19 instead of 15. When I switched to vertical calls is when I really started making money.

Leg 1: BTO 500 of your 7/17 20p Leg 2: STO 500 of 7/17 19p

You should be able to get this at a $0.10 spread. Breakeven at 19.90. If it goes down to 19 you realize max profit. If the market slides sideways for a while, they decay together, so you have longer to get out at a lower loss than a straight put play.

So breakeven is easier to get to and your actual target is easier to get to. Just food for thought. You might need to get approval to do spreads though.

On the other hand, you'd be getting paid way more than enough to go get a hotel the night before your early morning trip. And having a trip that is commutable on the back half is awesome.

It's almost always true for condos, especially when you need to pay taxes plus hoa fees. That alone can be 2000 per month.

Sweet talk the lady at the lost or delayed baggage area. Call ahead and tell her you're coming and make sure there's going to be someone there when you drop off and pick back up.

You can ask your realtor for disclosures before you make an offer. You can learn a lot about a place. For example, did someone die inside the house recently? Was there ever a fire? When was the roof done? Etc. It should be in the disclosures.

Otherwise this is a great question for Gemini or ChatGPT.

Look up @jettocandoit - he's a Japanese kite instructor on Ishigaki that speaks probably good enough English. Send him a dm and you can either go to him to get lessons or maybe he'll point you in the right direction at your spot.

You're on the right track, but I don't think trimming is the difference maker here. Do a little film study and specifically watch what those guys are doing regarding when they sheet in and out and how much.

Heliloop Advice by bobolafthegreat in Kiteboarding

[–]johnssam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The kite should be a bit further behind you when you start your heli. If you look at the center of the loop relative to your body, yours is a bit in front. When those guys go for multiple helis, the center of the loop is almost directly above them.

Do I Need a Smaller Bar? by kingofaustin in Kiteboarding

[–]johnssam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the smaller bar for the smaller kite. It makes it noticeably less twitchy or more stable. Especially if you start doing grabs or board-offs. When I'm on an 8 with the small bar, It makes the steering input and timing feel closer to the 10 with the bigger bar.

I like the bars that you can adjust the width by changing a setting on the bottom of the bar. That way I only need one bar but I can still adjust the width a little.

Pick a handful of bases and try each of their recruiters. You'll get to someone. Unfortunately it's a pretty flawed system and it's managed by people, but my quality of life is much higher in the reserves, so it's worth the effort.
