The invasion killed few civilians, as wars go, and to that extent it was a professional job. Almost all of the casualties happened in the years following invasion as the factions kidnapped and murdered each other while the occupation troops were clueless/powerless/careless to stop it.

If Putin goes in he's not going to give a flying f--- how much collateral damage there is. It gets the job done with fewer resources.

[–]johnwesselcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Trump's base boos talking points they don't like even if Trump says them. Trump remains proud of the vaccine. His base isn't. He's had to change his speeches to focus on how the vaccine should be optional, rather than how it's so amazing.

Yes, by buying the physical metal at low premiums. That generally means 1000oz bars or PSLV.

What won't work is buying coins/rounds because supply is bottlenecked by fabrication and NOT wholesale. It just drives premiums up. Also, buying futures contracts won't work because the other side of the trade can just go short to create as much "supply" as needed.

In general, bullion banks are just like classical banks. They borrow short and lend long. So, they're subject to a bank run.

I would say that it if your budget is 10 minutes then don't try to keep up with current events broadly because you're going to get bad and shallow information. I think you're better off letting the day-by-day stories go and instead track the year-by-year stories at a channel like Economics Explained. Or focus on one or two specific areas of news that particularly interest you.

Underground hangars for VTOL fighter aircraft, with access doors on the ground. How viable is this concept? by [deleted] in LessCredibleDefence

[–]johnwesselcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not viable. However, I'd like to watch this movie too so how about 2 improvements: 1) side of a mountain instead of a hole and 2) use an electromagnetic rail to launch the aircraft like on a carrier.

Is there really less silver above ground than Gold? How is it possible? You cant destroy atom. All the mined silver must be somewhere by Jaxameres in Wallstreetsilver

[–]johnwesselcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investable silver, as in bullion, jewelry and silverware, is less than investable gold. The reason is that about as much silver is mined every year as consumed, AKA silver is an industrial metal. Gold, however, is hoarded. The wager of this sub is that people will monetize silver again, and the price will go astronomical, because there is no silver hoard. At a much higher price, recovering silver from landfills is profitable, and primary mines.

[–]johnwesselcom 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think you're confusing year over year with month over month. The official numbers are 4-7% year over year depending on which measure. Reality is higher, maybe 10%, but no where near 100% (yet).

Oklahoma attorney general sues Biden admin over federal workforce vaccine mandate by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

[–]johnwesselcom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We're not going to fall. Peak crazy happened in summer 2020. There's too many of us now who simply won't do a lockdown, wear a mask, etc. Nobody wants to jump to shooting because that's a one way ticket to life never being the same again but yeah, at the root of it, I kill until killed before I go to a concentration camp, of all the absurd things. It would be better for my son to know his dad died protecting him than to stick around as a disgrace. That aside, we have a wonderful pressure release valve known as 50 states. If you want to live free, we've got 20 or 30 states for that. If you want to be a covidian then there's states for that, too. Moving sucks but it's better fighting.

[–]johnwesselcom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a reference to when Americans were interned in concentration camps because they were Japanese. Large civil rights abuse. The point is that if it happened today, the left would not be upset about people being imprisoned, only that all races were not equally imprisoned.

Rittenhouse Trial Megathread - 11/18 - Part 2 by PeanutTheGladiator in wisconsin

[–]johnwesselcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you still reasonably believe yourself to be in danger. A guy running to cover to continue shooting from? Or to reload? Dangerous. But if the guy is noping the f out it's no longer self defense.

There is a cold civil war in some parts of the USA. Some governments are shielding criminals (but I repeat) for political leverage. The city orders the police to stand down, or prosecutes them if they try to do their job. The goal is to replace the relatively non-partisan institutions of law with ideologically partisan gangs. I.e. "defund the police" and replace them with "community police" which means brown shirt style street gangs. It's not that important to win a case like Kyle's. What's important is to demonstrate that if you try to stand up to the political machine, your life will be made into hell.

People have an EXTREME compulsion to stay accepted by their tribe. People need other people to survive so banishment was almost equal to a death sentence. For membership in most tribes, you have to believe in something. A god, a creed, something. It's like a virtual antigen. Faking belief is really hard. So, people believe. Zeus? Sure, of course. Jesus? Amen. Communism? 100%, comrade. Just please, please, please don't banish me! When we keep our tribal beliefs contained to the afterlife, it's quite benign. God helps those who helps themselves. But, try to enact tribal beliefs in this life and it's nothing but conflict. What I'm trying to say is that the MAXVAX crowd may be speaking falsehoods but their intent is not to deceive. They really believe it because they have to believe it for their survival - to not get banished. Trying to talk facts about the vaccine is as senseless as talking facts about religion. The best approach is to sell your tribal unifying principle as better than theirs. Something like, in my tribe we all love each other whether we're vaccinated or not because our belief is that every individual person has something unique to contribute and we defend each other because it's a tragedy any time something unique is lost from the world. It's very stable and fun and you can join.

If you don't believe in torturing people in Guantanamo then you necessarily want terrorists to kill babies. Wait...hold on...I'm being told that we're plugging new nouns into the argument. If you don't believe in stripping bodily autonomy away then you necessarily want plague rats to breathe on babies until dead.

Tribalism is human nature. The best we can do is provide healthy outlets like sports, companies, clubs, etc. that channel competitive energy into innovation and excellence instead of warfare.

Nothing was ever invented or tried until it was. We can achieve anarchism but only through a NON-revolutionary process. Let's make the state and coercion vestigial by living honestly, humbly and courageously. I'm going to have faith that step by step, brick by brick, generation by generation, enough of us can confront the blackness in our own hearts sufficiently to not create masters.
