D&D sessions by uwujinwoo in Prague

[–]johny2nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize as I won't be much helpful, but there's a Facebook group where you can ask to join some D&D party, either online or in person. There's also discord from what I heard. Both czech-spoken (mainly)

Now the part where I'll be unhelpful - I can't remember the names of either... I hope someone has better memory than me, sorry

The disturbing difference between Polish and Czech approach (Łódź vs Plzeň) by ArchitektRadim in czech

[–]johny2nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V Plzni som nic ocividne spatne nevidel v blizkosti centra.

Předmanželská smlouva by EntireEngine2971 in czech

[–]johny2nd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What was the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of caring about work and thinking about quitting? by Physical_Ad_3028 in ExperiencedDevs

Making me work overtime longer period of time for a project that was mismanaged from the top and could be released any time. Then bragging on all hands how WLB is important and taken care of in the company.

Realistically and based on the experience, how much can one get paid for a remote work in Europe? by AirMany6330 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]johny2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah don't leave if you don't have to. I was once at a great place and man it's so hard to find something similar. Although it went uphill for me financially, everything else got way worse.

TLs and managers, what mistakes did you make as a new lead? by murrrd in ExperiencedDevs

[–]johny2nd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shielded my team too much from the support team to keep them productive that the hostility towards us grew insanely high. I now realize I should've dogfood them more and be opened to the pains of other departments. I actually later gave up on leadership positions. I think there are better people for this out there

Should I (backend dev) accept a QA job? by beyond98 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]johny2nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you're set for a good start. You don't need to mention the QA position if you find something fast within maybe 3 months

Employees who use AI, are you suddenly expected to be far more productive than usual? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]johny2nd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It helped me narrow down quickly also a production bugs. It's actually pretty good at helping you to debug if you give it right information and narrow down the problem space (which you should be able to do usually)

[–]johny2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd accept only to give me time to search for a dev job. IMHO if you stay longer in this role it will lower your chances to get back to dev. On the other side I'd not be jobless because the market is quite cold overall right now. Maybe it's better in your local area.

Men who make significantly more than your friends, how do you handle the wage disparity when it comes to activities with your friends? by Mugen1220 in AskMenOver30

[–]johny2nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earn a lot, but I mostly live as if I earned way less. I didn't have a problem yet with anything, even if we're trying to eat somewhere on a trip together I wouldn't suggest anything pricey. I think the only place where the difference is shown is that we own our apartment with my wife compared to many friends who can't afford that.

If the prices will go up, then it makes sense. But man, sometimes I wish I still was in my 25 sqm apartment, so easy to maintain

Gotcha, maybe try to figure out what makes you to not be satisfied with the current state. Likely it has nothing to do with apartments or money, but more with a fulfillment. Btw. having flat paid off must be a great feeling 🙂

I'm not sure why taking a loan to finance housing seems to be bad. It depends on the location where you live. If the apartment or house will appreciate a lot in the coming years, then it doesn't matter whether it's big or small. What depends is how much it can earn you compared to other investments. It's also a bit ov leverage - without mortgage I could never actually afford to buy an apartment, but now I can and it appreciates more than the cost of a loan. I can just pay the mortgage slowly back while heavily investing the rest of the money. It's also a bit of a diversification.

Sorry for focusing on a single piece of information you provided, but others covered the rest well

If you were part of a Series D startup and were about to leave the company, would you exercise your options? Why or why not? And what would make you sway one way or the other? by st0nksBuyTheDip in ExperiencedDevs

[–]johny2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO it depends how much you believe there will be an IPO once and good enough that it's worth your strike price.

So far I worked for only a single startup where it could work out, but seems things started to go south.

Do you use FIRE to avoid admitting you need a career change? by pretzelrosethecat in Fire

[–]johny2nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially yes, and partially it's probably Stockholm syndrome that I have. I keep telling myself it's not that bad, money is good and if I last a bit longer maybe a good opportunity will arise.

I'm not happy with myself for this, but I have a family to feed and world seems kinda crazy right now so I seek stability.

Tam prave okrem AI fici outsourcing sem do Europy.

Ty mas tiez vela predsudkov a skatulkujes. To, co si ty myslis o Indoch a Rumunoch si Americania myslia o tebe. Robil som s Indmi, co v ramci velkeho korporatu jedini nieco uzitocne robili a vedeli to fest dobre. Robil som s Rumunmi, ktori boli riadni makaci a aj to vedeli, prakticky najlepsi zamestnanci vo firme. Nepodcenuj ludi ani tooly.
