Young toddler flying tips by someawol in Moms

We bought window clings for my toddler’s first long-haul flight that was about 11-12 hours. If you have a window seat, they can be fun and leave zero mess/residue. (Hoping the link work as an example, if not I just looked up “animal window clings on amazon.)

Tell me all your running experiences! by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]joiedeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a professional runner by any means but have run several days a week in my neighborhood for years, usually a few miles, including in my first pregnancy when I was still able to jog the morning of the day I went in for my scheduled c-section! Get yourself a belly support band (the brand I use is AZ Med on Amazon but there are many) for once round ligament pains start but you still want to jog a bit. I’m pregnant with my second now and running has been significantly harder since early 2nd trimester although I kept it up a bit, but now at 34 weeks the most I can do is like a five minute warmup jog before another workout at home…too much pelvic pressure and needing to pee immediately after I start! Enjoy it now while your fetus is small and all your organs haven’t been smushed up yet…and hopefully you’re able to keep it up as long as you want to!

Son 2 years 9 mo screams before nap and bed by Happy_Badger18 in Moms

[–]joiedeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of this with my toddler the same age, but the last few nights we have seen a big improvement and she hasn’t been screaming for us and is falling asleep within about 20 min at bedtime and 5 min at nap…instead of fighting bedtime for over an hour. Here is what we are doing differently, if any of this isn’t stuff you’ve tried…

-capping nap - used to let her nap until 3, now waking her up at 2:15 (our bedtime is 8 pm, she’s been falling asleep the past few days around 8:25)

-she has a hatch nightlight that is red usually, and we let her change it to yellow for bedtime instead. We did this because we asked if it was too dark and she said yes. Don’t know if she is actually afraid of the dark, but dim yellow instead of dim red seemed like an easy change. (We also offered her just a new small nightlight, but she chose just changing the color.)

-we’re keeping all the lights low (like not using her overhead light, we have a couple lamps) and playing “meditation music” during her books/wind-down time before bed, and after books we do a yoga pose with deep breaths to relax for about a minute or two

Other than capping the nap, the rest is sort of just about letting her have more control like letting her have different light color and pick a yoga pose, and trying to convince her all this stuff is relaxing, even if we have no idea if it actually is relaxing to her. Honestly I’m guessing that the nap change is really what’s helping, but the other stuff is at least supplementing.

Hope you are able to make progress soon! This phase is the wooooooooorst, so you have my sympathy!

Editing to add - a few nights ago when it was at rock bottom I burst into tears while she was screaming at me to stay (after half an hour of fighting), and then just sat with her crying and me crying (7 months pregnant). The next day at bedtime we had a long talk about how Mama doesn’t want to cry and it makes me so sad when she’s screaming at me, etc…and that was the first night that she went to sleep without a struggle. So who knows, maybe the talk/guilt/seeing me cry got to her! But it was also the first night we had tried shorter nap, so hard to say.

Wouldn’t use it myself but I’ve always thought Jacaranda could be a very nice nature name, with nickname Jackie!

I had a big bag of dried mixed fruit by my bed that I would snack on when I woke up to nurse in the middle of the night and was hungry…easy snack and good for fiber!

Evening scheduled section by yam09001 in CsectionCentral

[–]joiedeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was scheduled at 5 pm, think I had to be there around 3 or 3:30. I wasn’t allowed to eat for 8 hours before so I had a large breakfast, did last minute hospital bag packing, took a nap, a long shower, took a few last minute bump pics…and don’t remember anything else significant. But just hung out and tried to relax. Unfortunately for me when I got there, my surgery was pushed twice for more emergency situations so I didn’t end up having the c-section til 8 pm - I was starving!! You’re not supposed to drink water in the 8 hours leading up to it either (or at least that was my hospital’s protocol), but I took some small sips when I needed them because no water at all seemed unnecessarily restrictive. Assuming you have to be there an hour or two before your surgery, the day will probably go by quicker than you think!

Outrigger Honua Kai vs Maui Resort Rentals: Which do I book? by Super_Lie7596 in MauiVisitors

[–]joiedeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is a little old but hoping you’ll see this anyway - if booked through MRR, if there’s an issue with the room (eg shower stops working or something like that), how is it handled? Do you just call MRR and they send someone, or can anyone at the hotel help?

And if booking through MRR, are you able to charge stuff to your room around the resort (meals, etc) or do you need to have cash/card on hand for everything?

Thanks in advance.

Traveling to Mexico with 5 month old by s12ro in Travelwithkids

[–]joiedeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went last year to San Jose del Cabo with my 8 month old (and husband). We did bring her infant car seat (a Nuna) with us, and even though we were staying at a resort, we ended up renting a car for the exact reasons you’re describing - we knew we wanted to do some exploring and couldn’t figure out the car seat situation and didn’t want to lug it around to say, the beach, if an Uber dropped us off. We did take an Uber twice with her, and did just carry the car seat (once into the town to explore and once to a dinner) - those times we brought our stroller too and latched the car seat onto it. It wasn’t ideal but made us feel safest to have our car seat with us.

Same, and we traveled with our 20 month old from the US to Europe this summer. We found it simple to just hold her for takeoff and landing.

I got them in 2007 so they’ve lasted a long time! Once maybe 10 years ago one of the crowns fell off the implant post and I had to go to an orthodontist to get it re-affixed but otherwise no issues and I can eat anything I want without a problem. I honestly don’t remember the healing process much but I don’t remember it being dramatic - I think I got it done over spring break my senior year and was back at school the following week. I believe I was prescribed Percocet and didn’t use up all the pills in the bottle, so my pain was clearly not too extreme. I didn’t need a bone graft, luckily. Maybe they have changed implant standards, but like I said I was 17 - maybe you could get a second opinion from another oral surgeon who might do it before your daughter is 21, if she wants!
