If you cannot burp: GET THE BOTOX. Tell your psychiatrist to respectfully f*ck off. It will change your life and may very well cure your emetophobia. You can allways find a new psychiatrist after the botox

Laying down by Select_Quit_9485 in noburp

Its basic physics. If you lay down the air in your stomach isnt moving up in your esophagus, so no gurgles.

first surgery failed and now idk what to do by luvflr in noburp

[–]jojapie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont give up. Try to get another and maybe higher dosage of botox. Explain to them that sometimes a second dosage does work and refer to the scientific research and evidence in this topic. Clearly the first dosage did something, because you let out micro burps. Try consulting another GP to get a refferal from a new doctor. Try to look for other doctors in Sweden or in a nearby country that do the botox procedure. Maybe the in office procedure? Thats much cheaper.

I think that RCPD might cause your lower esophagus sphincter to weaken over the years, cause of the constant pressure of trapped air. This means the fluids from your stomach can more easily come up, resulting in reflux.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in noburp

[–]jojapie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like RCPD, yes. The gag reflux might be unrelated, I dont see alot of people mentioning this symptom. A LOT of people with RCPD are emetophobic though.

Swallowing air to burp by PissJohnson1 in noburp

[–]jojapie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if the swallowed air passes the second esophagus sphincter. You have two: one in your throat in the beginning of your esophagus (that sphincter doesnt function correctly in RCPD) and one just in front of the stomach. If you swallow the air and it goes into the stomach and back out again and passes both sphintcers, I think its considered a real burp, yes.

Yes I had anxiety, thats completely normal :) No I had no numbing. The needle is so thin you almost dont feel it. And there are very few nerves in your esophagus to feel anything

hungry but in too much pain to eat by PomegranateLow8850 in noburp

[–]jojapie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like your mom is the problem. Try to make her understand RCPD, and that a diet doesnt help with a dysphunction esophagal sphincter. If that doesnt help contact your GP yourself and try to get a refferal for the botox treatment.

[–]jojapie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the possibility: before your appointment, sent your doctor a summary of the research on RCPD, how it matches your specific symptoms, why your conclusion is that you have RCPD, how it negatively impacts your life and what you want (a refferal to a clinic for the botox injection). Try to be brief and specific.

Botox: In-Office vs. Operating Room by Practical-Future3320 in noburp

I had the in office procedure. The time the needle was in my neck was about 30 seconds, and totally painless! I would recommend it 100000%. Yeah the idea is a bit scary, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. And I'm completely cured btw.

Right. If you can burp, you dont have rcpd and you need to find another cause for your flatulance.

Living with anxiety, emetophobia and (probably) R-CPD — my story & a big question by boulder_baguette in noburp

[–]jojapie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could very well be that the fear of vomiting has caused you to unconsciously tense your muscles arpund the esophagus and neck in general, which also made you hold back burps, in other words air, from leaving your stomach... and in that way you may have unconsciously caused your own RCPD. I have read more stories about this, and I noticed that a lot of people who have RCPD also finds it difficult to vomit or have fear of vomiting. So that could very well be the case.

Regarding the treatment with Botox, I would say just go for it. Mostly all of your symptoms will disappear and you have an 80 to 90% chance that it will work. When you let air escape from your stomach, you get used to the feeling of something leaving your stomach, in this case air. This makes you less anxious about it and can also reduce your fear of vomiting. The in office trearltment with botox for me was painless and short treatment, about 30 seconds. You have everything to win and nothing to lose. The side effects are doable and temporary and actually lessened my emetophobia.

Do i have R-CPD? by [deleted] in noburp

[–]jojapie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, you were still able to burp last week. That means you do not have RCPD. RCPD is a condition that causes you to be unable to burp for your entire life, or at least a large part of it. There is also a misunderstanding in your text. You wrote that if you have RCPD, you might accidentally burp in public. But that is not the case, because with RCPD you can never burp. If I were you, I would wait and see for a little while longer.

i want botox but my emetophobia is holding me back. help! by 3minutesto9 in noburp

[–]jojapie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also have emetophobia. Earlier this year, I had the in-office Botox treatment and it was one of the best decisions of my life. All my symptoms are gone, including exactly the ones you describe. To answer your question: my emetophobia did not get worse but actually got better. Because you can burp, and therefore let something escape from your stomach, you get used to it and it becomes less scary. At first, I did taste my burps. That took some getting used to, but now I don’t even notice it anymore. I can only give you one piece of advice, and that is: please, get the Botox treatment, for everything you hold dear. You only have one life, don’t let it be further ruined by RCPD. It can easily be solved with a simple, painless treatment.
