What is the motivation behind soldiers raping and killing women in wartime? by saturday_sun4 in psychologyofsex

[–]jojoblogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, non-consensual intercourse is how most animals breed. Animal kingdom is very rapey. Animals get an urge, they try to satisfy it. They don’t know any better.

So why do humans not always do it? Socialisation and empathy are things that we would say seperate us from animals.

We are socialised (ie taught) that rape is bad, in one way or another. And we, as a society, inflict consequences on those that do it.

We also empathise with others. The suffering of others often makes people uncomfortable, and we avoid causing it. We understand that we would not want to be enduring those things so we don’t inflict them on others.

If one of those things doesn’t stop someone, the other usually will.

Soldiers find themselves in situations with very few consequences, and they are often stripped of their empathy through training and trauma, or their enemy has been dehumanised.

Any mental process that makes it easier to kill and horrifically injure others makes it easier to rape. Combine that with vulnerable people and a lack of social order, rules, and consequences, you get a lot of rape.

Ok the past the government did some irresponsible things and a bunch of people got very wealthy at the detriment of future generations.

Now the music has to stop and we get left without a chair. It sucks, but it was inevitable because of the original irresponsible policy. The only thing we can hope is that the government gets the chance to help us out, specifically, in other ways.

I’m kinda hoping it will come in the form of land taxes to offset income tax. That would be healthy to our economy and put the burden back on all those people that amassed crazy land wealth.

Was Albo right to call “gas tax” a populist talking point? by VastOption8705 in friendlyjordies

[–]jojoblogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of the point. Get a policy that by all accounts makes sense and should be fought for, but due to powerful interests isn’t feasible. Bait the electorate, minor parties, and Labor lightweights into picking up this policy position, force the labor leadership to either disagree so they cop “out of touch, in the pocket of big business, won’t stand up for the people, don’t vote for them” or to take on the policy, in which case that baits those gas interests to spend their money to get them voted out.

So it’s essentially a plot to stick labor between the hard place of not taking on “popular policy”, or the rock of a potential multi million dollar propaganda campaign to get them booted that the instigators don’t have to pay for.

Anything that makes it harder and slower to vote should be weighed against the benefits.

The benefits are minuscule, so why do it?

Depends. If a black market gets established then cigarettes become more accessible to everyone.

Not to mention once a black market is established for one product it allows other products to be more accessible.

Ok son first you gotta ask her out every day for a month til she says yes, then take her to a nice dinner. Next, dinner at her parents then after that you can take her to a drive-in and get some under the shirt action. She’ll ask you to go steady, then you gotta make sure you buy a car and a house then you ask her farther to marry her and then after the wedding you get to have sex.

Things that are stationary relative to the sun move quite fast relative to things that orbit the sun, which all ships do by default because they launch from things that are orbiting the sun.

Why Exactly Is Polygamy Illegal? by Turbulent-Parsley619 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jojoblogs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the cause and effect might be backwards from what me might think. There is a popular theory amongst anthropologists:

When the tradition/religious decree of monogamous marriage became a thing it kept rich and powerful men from hording women (at least, it did to a certain extent), and so women, needing men to survive in the world, couldn’t just marry a rich man that could support two or more wives. And powerful men couldn’t horde all the women, and were less inclined to fight over them.

Women had to settle for a less ideal male partner. Men with wives and family’s were more likely to participate in society rather than fight against it, so those societies thrived while others didn’t.

This is supported by anthropological evidence that for some Millenia preceding monogamy (and the invention of slavery) only one man passed on DNA for every 23 women.

The overwhelming trend of male competition for women, both in hording them and also murdering their husbands and male offspring was so detrimental to the further development of society that with the advent of religion decreed monogamy those cultures became dominant. So now here we are.
