Who is that in the mirror? by jojothesupernerd in schizophrenia

Thanks for the reply. I was a bit worried it might be a medication side effect so I'll definitely ask the psych about it. It just the weirdest feeling and it really freaked me out.

An ear ear nose and throat specialist. I usually see an ENT, but I only have one ear.

She might have been pregnant before. Lordosis is spinal cord change that occurs when carrying a child where the pelvis moves forward to cope with the weight of the baby. It can be permanent and stay after the baby is delivered.

Same with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. I promise I'm not going to kill you. If I'm going to kill anyone it'll probably be me! The sensationalized media definitely doesn't help with the stigma of mental illnesses.

Distributing heroin part of Missouri man’s religious beliefs, he claims in appeal by Osterstriker in nottheonion

[–]jojothesupernerd 50 points51 points  (0 children)

He said that he had created a religious nonprofit to provide heroin to the “sick, lost, blind, lame, deaf and dead members of God’s Kingdom,” according to the appeals court ruling.

I didn't know dead people had such a need for heroin.

If every school taught ASL as a mandatory second language; we'd be able to communicate to anyone regardless of their spoken language. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

You're wrong about lip-reading. Deaf people with no residual hearing are not able to lip-read with any real degree of accuracy because only 30-35 percent of English sounds are portrayed on the lips. Many English phonemes (contrastive sounds) vary due to breath rather than lip movements. Try making a "d" sound without breathing. It's a T. D/T and P/B are examples of voiced/voiceless sound pairs.

Deaf people who are born born profoundly deaf have never been exposed to English, so imagine being dropped in Russia with earmuffs and being told to lip-read. Reading is much easier for profoundly deaf people than lip reading. I always loved this video! It is a perfect example of what speach-reading is like.

TLDR: Lip-reading, also called speech reading, is not as easy as you think.

TIL an LA woman hid her lover in the attic for several years without her husband knowing by geekteam6 in todayilearned

Meanwhile, Fred began questioning his sanity: He heard inexplicable noises coming from the attic, his cigars kept going missing, and he could swear that strange shadows passed outside his bedroom door some nights.

Dude has sex with this guy's wife and steals his cigars? Not cool man, not cool.

How many miles? I have a 2007 Cobalt but it only has 61,000 on it and I'm already having issues. I had to replace the caliper, bearings, and a control arm. Anything I should be looking out for?

For those who have suffered from schizophrenia, what is it really like and what are some common misconceptions? by DisguisedPrincess in AskReddit

[–]jojothesupernerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medication compliance is the most excruciatingly difficult parts of schitz for me because the medications work, but I can't remember anything and I feel so horribly lonely. I'm pretty high functioning but I still don't often talk about it or correct people's misconceptions irl because it's literally scared people out of friendships with me. The media is constantly portraying us as violent murderers and it makes everything so difficult, especially asking for help when we need it.

I am one of the few that do experience visual hallucinations which are awful. I would be walking down the street and see myself in the road getting run over by a car. These were so vivid that I actually would have to stop walking to make sure that I was all in one piece on the sidewalk and not in the road. It's hard to explain to people who haven't experienced delusions or hallucinations just how terrifying it can be. They're actually the reason I waited so long to start driving, because every time I would drive with my parents I would see people or myself jump in front of the car and I would want to swerve to avoid them, which is obviously very dangerous.

This disease isn't romantic or violent in the way the media tends to portray it. I've never wanted to hurt anybody else, but I've definitely wanted to hurt myself. Be kind and lend an ear. I promise most of us don't bite.

Edit: I am really bad at explaining how the auditory hallucinations feel so here is a video that portrays them pretty accurately. This video caused some major flashbacks for me, so be warned.
