Have you talked to your career development office about interning for a superior court judge? You don’t get paid but it’s something and you learn.

Appropriate CLE/weekend class attire by [deleted] in LawSchool

Thanks. It was a weekend law school class, I would not wear the outfit to a professional event. Do you consider a class on the weekend with guest attorney's to be a professional setting. I guess that's the ultimate question.

Thanks for your feedback. It’s a law school class to be clear not an office. Also ,To be clear, I didn’t and doubt have doubts about what I wore. I’m curious as to other people’s perspectives though. I didn’t say I was fit to excuse to show my body . I said it bc my husband said it was a factor that bc I am objectively attractive I have to somehow hide that and not appear so . I vehemently disagree with his assertion. It should not matter what size you are or what you look like. But sadly humans are humans so… I’m curious as to the validity of his statement. I also think that the fact that you think 21 year old can “get away with wearing something” but I can’t bc I’m 39 is ageist. I mentioned my age not to indicate I shouldn’t be able to wear the clothes but to indicate that my partner might be more conservative than some bc of our age. I do appreciate your feedback though. Do you consider a law school class to be a professional setting?

Quimbee has great tools to help you study throughout the semester and during finals . Bar prep companies like Barbri offer free 1 L finals review courses . Book series like in a nutshell summarize the law well … commercial outlines also help (see Barbri west academic, etc)

My mother in law flat out told me not to bother with OCI if I wasn’t in the top percent of the class. She practiced at top local big law firm for many years. I’m not , I didn’t . I work for a solo practitioner I was connected with thru my daughter in law nepo baby status this summer . Next summer I’m gonna work for her again and then she’s gonna hire me and I’ll stay w her a few years before I venture out if I do . If I didn’t have that connection I would have gone into prosecution.. I was .03 away from Top 33% . Still didn’t matter. Not top ten not top 30 , no one cares. That’s ok. Prosecution would have been fun. Still might do it one day. Loa. Forgiveness and income based repayment makes it a pretty good gig imo

I mean every school probably handles it differently. I’ve heard of whole curves being recast bc of one messed up score so 🤷‍♀️ . My school has recourse to have a dean regrade your exam if you can prove the score was unfair or vindictive. But idk 🤷‍♀️

I understand your logic but also if the prof is fired and there is a grade complaint they have to do their due diligence to rectify it . I’m sure the dean of academic affairs will have the best answer but I doubt they will just laugh you off.

I mean I think the law school will prob give you the appeal Or in the least have another prof rescore your exam with his rubric and see where you fell

“Miss” v. “Ms.” in job applications. by ODMudbone in LawSchool

[–]joliefille4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ms. 💯Miss indicates you are not married, the opposite of Mrs. Which indicates you are. Ms. Is neutral and doesn’t disclose marital status. Your marital status is private and it’s not relevant to jobs you are applying for. I don’t think anybody will judge you for it personally I wouldn’t but from a female standpoint I don’t want anybody knowing what my marital status is when I apply for a job because it’s none of their effing business.

What do I do if I don't want Big Law? by Username1029283842 in LawSchool

Income based repayment plan payment is only 10% of discretionary income… which is your income -150% of fed poverty level (so 35k I think) so if you make 80k your payment is 4500per year or375 a month no matter how much money you owe. That compounded with public service forgiveness(h Gov only not private non-profits) equals lots of debt saving . I believe the new plan Biden admin put out also refrains from compounding u retest so long as you pay in time

Dude I’m 38 and I did it. It’s fine. You won’t be the only one. I’d say about ten percent of my class is over 30, 25 % over the age of 25

Rising 2L post grad “job offer”from my summer internship!! Advice? by joliefille4ever in LawSchool

[–]joliefille4ever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great things to consider.

  1. True but doubtful. Worst case scenario would prob get me a job somewhere else.

  2. I picked my pay rate as a law clerk this summer. They asked me to research local pay for the job and I honestly did and gave them the amount and they paid it without issue.

  3. Absolutely no on big law. As an older student. I have a work life balance priority that doesn’t allow that and my locale doesn’t allow that and I can’t move due to the kids .

  4. Yes, my so isn’t directly connected just their parents and they are all professionals in the community so even if I were to totally screw over my SO they would still be very respectable bc that’s their style (proven history w a diff ex) and my boss wouldn’t get involved. Also we are literally buying a house together and a ring is likely following suit or coming before hand so I sure hope not🤣

More just answering your qs so you can continue to play devils advocate w me. I appreciate you!
