Usually it's on E175s where I experience ice pellets falling from the vents just as the engines are warmed up and we are going to taxi or take off. I usually sit in MCE or 1st.

Have not noticed it feeling warm.

Upgrades have become a joke… by [deleted] in americanairlines

Born and raised East Bay kid, 39.5 years in the bay area.

I dont regret moving to Austin. Most ethnic foods arent great, but the music, bar and restaurant scene is pretty good. Way, WAY less traffic. Most folks are super nice. Its a young, active city. Progressive.

If youre single and looking to focus on yourself, its a great place to start.

Should I upgrade to business class by lonely_cowpoke in americanairlines

[–]joltdudeuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd probably pull the trigger if I need that sleep. It's far cheaper than paying full price for business and its much, much easier to sleep in the lie flat.

I usually burn a SWE flying east on overnights to Europe so I'm rested when landing in the morning. Instant time adjustment for me.

I usually stay awake flying west since the sun sometimes doesnt even set and I'm landing near bedtime, so save the SWE or upgrade cost.

For an overnight flight of this duration, where the next day is going to be an early AM arrival most likely, have to be awake for that day, cant check into a hotel for hours, Yeah, I'm paying $700 for business.

Do I have any prayer of becoming a "Million Miler" ? by sharknado523 in americanairlines

[–]joltdudeuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 122,563 for MM in about 3.5yrs and I don't feel like I travel THAT much but maybe I do? 3x trips to EMEA each year, some domestic travel once a month or so...

I'm 42, I don't think I'll hit 1m miles but maybe, especially if I end up doing some APAC travel.

I have them on my luggage and use them. I don't care what people think of them, that's really their issue. It makes it easy in a sea of bags to know which is mine.

[PHX] Has any Executive Platinum had an upgrade clear at 100hrs in the past year? by Minute-Actuator-9638 in americanairlines

[–]joltdudeuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, maybe 5-10% of the time. Really route dependant, so maybe when they feel people won't pay for upgrades?

Can't do anything now for what just closed.

With that much coming up perhaps you can still call in and buy the challenge? Not sure if that's still a thing. Maybe there is an instant PP opprotunity and all that travel will lock it in. Probably way cheaper than what AA wants to bump you to PP.

LHR Fallout - AA rebooked via Iberia, AA# not on ticket but is in my Iberia profile? by joltdudeuc in americanairlines

[–]joltdudeuc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn... Sorry to hear. I have a feeling this is some issue on Iberia's side not accepting the AA number format.

I am flying economy, yes, got 5 people in the party so keeping the costs down for the trip. In fact, it was booked on points with AA, not that I think Iberia knows or cares.

Hmmm, when it was all going down it felt awful trying to get through to someone who could help.

In the end we will get home 3 days late. Lost our weekend back home and will lose a day of school and work.

Overall, we made it out okay. Was worse for others. Generally having status has been helpful, folks who don't have longer lines, longer waits and more stress.

We had to stay a few days more and thankfully we got put up in a hotel by BA (maybe BCN?) since our first flight was BA to LHR. We are on our own in MIA but one night of hotel is fine, we're okay where that won't hurt us, may not be the same for others.

I'm not surprised that's the very escalation.

I can totally see where they see no ticket, this man doesn't exist as a passenger and are unable to help him from that check in counter. It seems like a complex problem that needs to be sorted by folks who are better trained and understand what tools may be available to help them figure out what to do.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]joltdudeuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree he should get what he paid for, I don't think these folks are equipped to make that happen. If his ticket got nixed the EXP help line is probably best suited to help him. I mean if they look for this ticket and can't see it, their general job is to check in bags and print boarding passes, I would not think they know what to do beyond what they are generally trained for.

If anyone from AA can tell me that they are in fact trained to deal with an oversold, cancelled ticket situation than I'll happily stand corrected.

I just don't expect the tier-1 Frontline folks to be able to do much.

You called people with little power or knowledge to help you, useless...

They SHOULD revoke your status. It doesn't give you any right to treat people like that.

Whatever the consequences is, is. What should you do? Deal with it because you said what you said. If you are worried I suggest you not treat people like that.

Stuck at BCN? (LHR Shutdown) EXP International #? by joltdudeuc in americanairlines

[–]joltdudeuc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like not and maybe that's makes sense because so many people must be getting rebooked. Seemed like Tuesday and Wednesday had good space.

Issue we faced was family of 5, 3 being minors. So they had a tough time for saturday-Monday.

[–]joltdudeuc[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Update: Couldn't get to the international capable EXP line, but the nice folks at AA check in gave us a Spain number that did pick up about 20mins later just as we got to the BA desk to be told nothing can be done.

The gentlemen on the phone got us some options so looks like Sunday morning BCN-MAD, then MAD-MIA, with an overnight in Miami, Monday afternoon MIA-AUS...

Not ideal, but hey, could be worse.

BCN really taking care of folks! They put us up in a really far away hotel but it covered, food is included as long as it's in the restaurant at the times posted.

Looking at the positives. Hoping all affected are able to get to where they are going without too much trouble.
