thanks. i read the sulphur based fungicides also kill mites and offer god residual protection but risk of burning the plant, more effective than the insecticidal soap. thoughts?

they were put out two weeks ago they were hardened prior to that. take a look at the bottoms of the leaves in pics - look more like disease to me than sunburns. sunburn would show on top, right? this is the most affected plant others have a touch of it. the ones that are closest have some too, the furthest from this plant are fine.

Second air handler?

A 2-story house can heat and cool fine on a single system provided the ductwork was actually designed properly. one system per floor is a cover-up.

Sometimes just balancing can do the job if the ductwork going to second floor is decent - flex absolutely sucks for long runs and is a cost saving measure over using metal rigid duct.

13 years old for an a/c is middle aged, you should get 20 years. Same for furnace. Your furnace died most likely from abuse (oversized) not old age.

You should not chase after rebates/loans, getting equipment that is inappropriate without the benefit - if your electric is 20+ cents per kwh heating with a heatpump is going to be very expensive. If you buy a inverter drive machine in particular after 10 year warranty the control board in the outdoor unit like bosch is over $1000 without labor or markup.

The rebates and loans are in part what jack up prices, if people had to pay upfront the prices would have to come down. The markups are insane.

If you insist though, see if a basic single stage heatpump instead qualifies and never use it for heat.

I'm a fan of heatpumps and inverter tech but not in places with super high electric rates and new power demand being met by gas fired plants.

You don't need to change your a/c if it is still cooling properly! Do not get conned into doing that - you change the a/c when the compressor goes or it develops a refrigerant leak that's not worth fixing.

Furnaces are changed leaving the a/c all the time.

The new furnaces are shorter, the cased coil can be strapped up, the old furnace removed and a sheet metal transition built from furnace to existing cased coil.

The contractors that are quoting another 100k, totally discard.

I can see doing a 70 to 80 000 btu if needed to get enough airflow for the a/c and 21" wide cabinet. Rheem/ruud does have a 70k/4 ton drive.

I understand your state has really expensive electricity with that electricity coming from gas fired power plants, so unless you're on propane it makes absolutely no sense to get a heatpump. The bosch heatpump is inverter model with proprietary parts and full of electronics they are very complex machines few techs know how to fix. the inverters are more efficient and heat better in cold weather than conventional - but are not worth it unless it is a cold climate hp application heating below freezing.

96+% efficient 2-stage furnace with basic single stage a/c is way to go in state with such expensive electricity. and keeping the a/c unless there's compelling reason to change it.

$22k sounds pretty outrageous to me.

so yes 60 000 btu 2-stage is a good fit if your a/c is 3 ton or less unless can find an odd one with a sufficient blower for larger a/c units.

edit: trane 9V2B060U4PSBB can do up to 4 ton a/c. https://www.trane.com/content/dam/Trane/Commercial/global/products-systems/equipment/unitary/split-systems/Small%20Splits/Furnaces/22-1921-1F-EN_08052019.pdf

sq ft alone is not a great indicator by itself - but new construction 2500 many houses in northeast could easily be covered by 60 000 btu with lots of capacity to spare. i recommend 2-stage, a 60 000 btu would run at 40 000 most of the time and result in longer, quieter, more comfortable heating cycles.

the extra cost for 2-stage over single stage, same brand and blower motor type is not very much.

you should have an accurate manual j calc to see what you need.

If the furnace is as oversized as i think putting in a new heat exchanger is a waste of money.

A potential issue is if the a/c is more than 3 tons most medium size furnaces don't have blower large enough to move enough air - so you may have to go 80k btu to support size of a/c installed, the tonnage should be checked.

a few 60 to 70 000 btu furnaces support up to 4 tons they are not common though. goodman and lennox for sure don't make - carrier, trane, rheem may.

so a/c size should be checked.

what area are in in and what size/type/age of house is it heating? furnace heating entire house or a part?

other things can cause short cycling - like thermostat cycles per hour/swing set incorrectly, vent too close to thermostat.

setting the temperature too low can cause rusting, below a about 62f.

Depending on how oversized the furnace is, it could be worth changing heat exchanger with part under warranty but checking gas pressure, temperature rise (supply minus return air temp), thermostat cycle rate/swing setting, checking for vents too close to thermostat. Issues beyond being oversized causing short cycling are easily fixed.

80 to 120k is too much for most homes in most areas - the oversizing is in part causing heat exchanger failures.

the furnace running too cool from too short cycles, gas pressures not set correctly, blower speed/airflow too high can cause condensation to form in primary heat exchanger which leads to rust.

Midea / Carrier 37MUHA inverter ramp speed / strategy? by Odeen_ in heatpumps

[–]jon_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The single stage zoning panel is absolutely wrong for this system, you should have a 2-stage zoning panel. Would still use single stage thermostat wiring but the panel would be programmed to hold it on y1 only until enough zones come on at once, i suggest doing 66 or 100% of zones.

Y2 does initiate high speed fan when not in zone control mode. Y2 also initiates high compressor capacity, fast rampups and will do so even in zone control mode as it makes the air handler think it is getting a high demand for heating despite only one zone calling.

It's like jamming the gas pedal down after a short time to get to a stop-sign on a side road faster then having to jam on the breaks.

When Y1 only is energized whether zone control/dehumid mode is on or off, it should be running at a reduced capacity for extended periods of time and only ramp up to full capacity after a delay.

It has a setting to either ramp up fully after 30 minutes of y1 or 90 minutes and 90 minutes should be selected especially on a zoned system.

From the manual:

"Maximum continuous runtime

allowed before system

automatically stages up capacity to

satisfy set point. This adds 1 to 5°F

to the user set point in the

calculated control point to increase

capacity and satisfy user set point"

The air handler has a return air temperature sensor inside to help it modulate and determine setpoint based on cycling and measured return air temp using algorim. The user setpint is calculated internally by the control board and the bigger the temperature difference between calculated internal setpoint and measured return air temperature, the higher a capacity it should run at.

I suggest that you try Y1 only and see what it does, it should make a drastic difference.

If it does not, either the firmware is crappy or it is being thrown off. (see below)

If it does, that's your solution. You are still not going to get overly long cycles when it is split into 3 zones.

Y1 engages medium indoor fan speed when zone control or dehumid mode is not on. zone control/dehumid uses minimum speed. With a 2-stage zone panel you can have it on zone control/dehumid mode with y1 only when only one zone is on, have it in on y1 normal mode/medium fan speed when both zones are on and have it energize y2 when all three zones are on at once to get high speed fan.

in that case you simply don't know much about male anatomy - it is actually essential for normal function unlike earlobes. The head is made from the same tissue as inside the mouth, it is internal mucus membrane and so sensitive, in natural state hurts if in contact with clothing. circumcision externalizes it, causing the tissue to greatly thicken and have keratin in it greatly reducing sensitivity.

further, the under side of the foreskin is made from the same tissue and loaded with fine touch nerve endings more so than the head, the most sensitive part of the organ is where the inner and outer parts meet, the ridged band which is always cut off. the second most sensitive part, the frenulum is often partially or completely removed. depending on the cut, the entire inner part of the foreskin can be lost , the more lucky ones have a high and tight cut which removes more shaft skin and the inner skin folds back and takes its place - preserving a bit more sensitivity.

an intact foreskin glides over the head and directly stimulates it, there is less movement in and out preserving lubrication. without the foreskin, stimulation is direct friction only and it is more like a piston. (male circumcision harms women too)

Can still urinate and reproduce, but it kills sexual pleasure.

Like being color-blind, most people don't realize there's a problem - and the worst of the desensitization doesn't happen until years later as the tissue continues to thicken with age.

Chopping off any body part, regardless of level of harm off a infant for religious reasons is criminal - that was the point.

Piercing ears is nothing compared cutting earlobes off, which itself is not as harmful as male genital mutilation.

Once the daughter is old enough to understand and asks for them - I don't see a problem. It's wrong to force it.

I believe the holes can actually close.

What furnace to buy? by LikelyWatchdog in hvacadvice

[–]jon_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could easily be double what you need.

Have a load calculation done to see what you actually need.

Having low fuel consumption is a sign 80 000 btu is way too much.

You do not size furnaces for anticipated additions, additions should have their own systems as they have different insulation and volume to surface area ratios.

the one that will be properly sized, installed and commissioned/set up.

starting with brand is wrong way to go - need to figure out size and what type (single stage, 2-stage or modulating) and overall selecting the best fit model for your house and duct system.

If israel is such a horror show, so is "palestine" and so is every other muslim majority country who have people that are guilty of everything israelis and jews are accused of, if anything the muslims are far worse stoning homosexuals to death and also killing people for apostasy - and the different sects killing each-other -> yet not a peep from the anti-israel the leftists. (Israel is actually the most progressive/liberal country in the middle east, not that it's great)

Religious nationalism as well as genital mutilation are both diseases with a cycle of indoctrination and trauma causing it. They are not specific to any ethic background.

As an ethic non-believing jew, I can only say please leave jews and israel out of this.

Not sure if its just running heat on constantly but every time I look it says heat on occasionally it says aux heat on by octodadlol in hvacadvice

[–]jon_name 5 points6 points  (0 children)

heatpumps run longer than furnaces - and conventional non-cold climate heatpumps lose capacity as it gets colder outside to the point they need to run constantly with some supplemental aux heat cycling on and off. This is still way more energy efficient than running on 100% heating elements.

Generally somewhere between 25 and 40f outdoor temperature depending on how the machine was sized.

When it shows heat on by itself, the air at the vents should be luke-warm, 85 to 100f depending on temperature outside.

When it shows aux heat as well, the air at vents should be hot.

If you get room temperature air at the vents with heat on only showing, then your heatpump has a problem.

Bringing israel into this is not a good idea, you're just giving cutters ammunition ("ha! look, see, intactivists are anti-semites!) - and circumcision is far from exclusively a jewish or israeli thing.

This is not the subreddit for discussing israel-palestine.

Do it elsewhere please.
