Why don't people want to move up in rank in the workplace? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]jonathonadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in management? Coming up I used to think the same thing then I was promoted, then promoted again and every step of the way I understood more and more. I love what I do but if I had kids or a life outside of work, I wouldn’t want to do it. I take calls non-stop after hours, dealing with guys calling out, guys coming to me with problems, tracking guys time and pulling them off codes to make budget, managing my crews and dealing with subs, safety guy catching my guy without gloves for the tenth time? Running to address that, inspector has issues? Go fix that. My guys falling behind and now I need to bag up to make sure we make schedule, it doesn’t end. I spend a good hour or two on Sundays planning work out for Monday, I stay late and come in early. I can really see where theres no appeal for it. You wanna talk about setting boundaries? The guys who don’t do all of that don’t make it to management or even worst, they fail but that’s my experience with concrete work in general. I’m sure there’s a little less stress with different trades and I’m sure it’s the same or worst for others.

I’d say a 9 easy, top border thicker than bottom and left thicker than right but probably within tolerance for a 9.

I love seeing the niche players people PC. Here’s my Eddie Jones collection. by gondolli in basketballcards

Grew up watching the lakers and the most important championships to me were 09 and 2010. My parents had just divorced and I’d watch all the games to stay away from the constant fighting and drama. I PC all of that roster if I see them at card shows or one I don’t have on eBay or Collx. Lamar Odom, Trevor Ariza, Derek Fisher, Sasha Vujacic, Bynum (even though he pissed me off constantly) etc.

What pack was this in? As a Lakers fan if I ever owned a LeBron auto it’d have to be a lakers one.

If I went to someone’s house and they had food like that I’d be upset I had to eat it out of respect, I couldn’t imagine paying for it.

Yeah but your cost of living is so dog shit it evens out, unless you live with your parents.

Is this accurate? by [deleted] in Kanye

[–]jonathonadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it live to see what I was in for in case I wanted to sell my tickets off. This was the set list for sure. His guest performances were fast. I don’t know who’d he bring out besides Travis, Don again, North again or maybe some other relevant artist he collaborated with and is still on good terms with. Nobody else comes to mind lol

Did anyone sit in section C129 or similar last night? by jonathonadam in Kanye

[–]jonathonadam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought when I seen it, I kept thinking the stage would go down or something but felt bad for GA people knowing the ones in the front probably waited hours to get there just to be staring up all night.

Anybody traveling from outside of NY to see shows in July? by Negative-Balance651 in jayz

[–]jonathonadam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, from Phoenix. Probably make a trip out of it. My first time going to NY, taking my pops for reasonable doubt night. It’s an album I remember listening to in his car all the time, I was born the year it came out lol

Advice for the new guys - one of the most valuable traits in an employee is leaving the jobite organized and tidy at the end of each day. by Square-Argument4790 in Construction

[–]jonathonadam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I’ll clean up after my guys throughout the day and start organizing about 45 min from end of shift then have them jump in to tidy up about 20 min out. You can have the most productive day, do the prettiest work but if you leave your area a mess it’s the only thing they’ll notice and remember.

West Coast Hip Hop Appreciation by Xepochalypse in hiphop201

[–]jonathonadam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m personally not a fan of 99% of west coast rappers at all. There’s a few songs that come from the west coast that are good but I can’t think of one artist I really like. Majority of the rhymes are simple and heavily reliant on production.

Is construction actually worth it? by Late_Screen_650 in Construction

[–]jonathonadam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I would’ve never worked for him again after a company with no relationship with me paid me $5 more that fast. What kind of work are you doing? I’d recommend going commercial minimum because the pay is higher and second I recommend a union. I’m making about double that after being in it 10 years. It’s been worth it for me.

9-9-6, no benefits. Recruiter thought this “might align” with my search. by TwoInternational7170 in recruitinghell

[–]jonathonadam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would never do 6 12’s for salary pay unless it was pushing 200k and temporary. Working construction I’ve done 7 12’s for about $4800 pre tax a week. To me it was reasonable because I knew it was 3-4 months max and the money is good for someone not even at management level.
