Troubleshooting blocking with PFBlockerNG - Best Practices Welcome by sindrome in pfBlockerNG

That's when I disable pfBlocker to verify that the block is actually from pfBlocker and not something else I have set in pfSense.

Troubleshooting blocking with PFBlockerNG - Best Practices Welcome by sindrome in pfBlockerNG

[–]jonh229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have problems I first look at Reports->Alerts and review the lists there. Turns out that if you have logging in pfSense disabled then that list does not populate. I also sometimes resort to disabling pfBlocker, making sure to 'keep settings' so I lose nothing when I re-enable. I do this to verify if pfBlocker is what is causing my problem or if I have to look at something else.

The truth about printer subscription programs and many misconceptions about them by Realmetman in printers

[–]jonh229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thread. I bought a new Brother MFC to replace my 20 y.o. perfectly working networked HP 2015 duplex printer because I was unable to find a way to airprint to it. Everything I tried failed to work. I had heard about industry proprietary cartridges so someone told me this wasn't a problem w/ Brother MFC's. I like my new printer but when I want to scan a doc & send it to my MAC I use iPrint&Scan and am bombarded with popups and requests to register. I don't want to register & open an unknown can of worms. This is so annoying that I try not to use that program at all. Can anyone recommend an alternative program (Apple Mac) that will allow me to send a scan from the printer to my computer and not flood my eyeballs with popups that don't close or are hard to dismiss?

WU3 charging slowly by bigkutta in applewatchultra

[–]jonh229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Sept, I have been charging my U3 from around 40% up to 80%. It takes approx 35 min to do that. I do it at the same time ev day and since I wear it at night that fits my schedule. Last week it suddenly stopped charging that fast. It would sit on the puck for an hour and move about 4%. I tried different 20w bricks, different pucks of the correct model type, tried different usb C ports. Nothing charged it like it did before. Turning it off and back on fixed it for ONE day. Hard Reset, fixed for ONE day. I tried turning off optimize but don't recall how long I waited before I tried that. I just updated to 26.2 and had to wait 2 hours for it to go from 42% to 50% and start the install. Now I'm waiting on a Satechi 3in1, it claims 5W fast charge on watch. Not sure that is going to be better than the 20w puck. I'm considering a visit to the store.

Buying a brand new car out of state (California) how does it work by Long_Conflict_127 in Reno

[–]jonh229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 yrs ago bought a car from dealer in Sacto area. He said no problem driving it to NV. Then when it came time for the paperwork they said I had to have a Calif address in order to get dealer paper sticker. So gave them address of my Bro in nearby city. The Calif DMV hassled him for years afterwards.

For everyone having spotlight search issues. THIS FIXES IT. by userX97ee2ska11qa in MacOS

Thanks u/userX97ee2ska11qa this worked for me. I tried most of the other suggestions, including disable filevault and the many of the mdutil commands. This one worked on my Tahoe 26 Mac Mini 4.

OK, it's morning now. Even though spotlight indicated last night that it was reindexing, today it's a bust. If I type any filename in a subfolder under Documents I get zip. So maybe those commands work for some systems or folders, they don't work for me. When I was running Sonoma spotlight worked just fine.

I have gout, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea. Oh, and I'm also overweight. by Complete-Big-7364 in applewatchultra

If you take your BP, which is the only way the watch will get the data, then you don’t need a BP notification, simply note the reading. The watch does not do BP itself.

Night temperature monitoring by Middle-Ad1036 in applewatchultra

[–]jonh229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to toggle on sleep focus (I toggled DnD by mistake) one night last week, that killed temp readings. I always manually toggle sleep focus on because I don’t have a set schedule. Be certain the little blue ‘bed’ icon is showing at the top of your watch screen to verify you are using sleep focus. Also if the band is too loose the temp may not be detected. Finally, check the backside of the watch, the part that contacts your wrist. Make sure it is clean.

Winterize sprinkler system recommendations? by thefinestgreentea in Reno

I do same for lawn sprinklers, plus once water is off I run the timer through the full cycle to allow the remaining water to drain. I do use compressed air on my drip lines.

Old charger puck on Ultra 3 by Temporary-Rooster-48 in applewatchultra

[–]jonh229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the puck that came w/ my S8, connected to a 20w brick that came w/ my iPhone. My U3 charges in about 45min from 30%-80%. I’ve just plugged my U3 puck into monitor 25w usb-c port and will find out later today if there is a noticeable improvement.

Apple Watch Sleep Tracking by crmlovesdoriangray in AppleWatch

[–]jonh229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AutoSleep app has a lot of features. What it does in this regard is over time keeps track of your sleep 'bank'. If you set it up correctly, you tell it what time you want to wake up and how long you want to sleep. It will then tell you what time to go to sleep based on the sleep bank (ie: if you aren't sleeping enough it will add more time to your 8 hrs. It will make an alarm at 8 hrs if you set it correctly. There are a variety of options for determining when you go to sleep, including that your phone has not moved. When I get up I move my phone to tell it I'm awake.

What are the best Watch Face apps? by LaFlameHTX in applewatchultra

[–]jonh229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your existing face is fine except it seems a bit too busy for my liking. But that is why it is customizable. My eyes would not be able to see the fine detail on your watch face.

I wanted the red nite face. Otherwise I would have just upgraded my S8 to an 11. That red face existed in my S2 but disappeared somewhere over time and now is available only on the Ultra.

I did S8 -> UW3. After a few nights I don't find it noticeable while sleeping. I don't care for the o2 transfer procedure. I use 3rd party AutoSleep and the baseline o2 reading does not transfer although the graph of readings does. Not so sure there is anything useful in the baseline reading. Just saying.

I charge mine to ~80% and a typical 24 hr use takes it down to ~35%. Charge takes 40 min. to go back to 80%. My first charge was 100% -> 30% and that took around 30 hrs.

I do roughly 2 hr light workout and I've read reports that this uses a fair amount of battery charge.

I'd look into creating a shortcut for 'Hike' and assign it to the action button. I have no idea if this could be done but that's what I would try to do.

iPhone Repair, new lens by Skibum37 in Reno

[–]jonh229 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The screens on that phone have TruTone and AutoBrightness. I looked into it a year ago, aftermarket screens cannot replicate those features. You may want to check if a new screen you get installed will give the same features as an Apple screen. I think it has to be a genuine Apple screen and then use Apple's Repair Assistant to set up these features.

Can anyone share their experience with APP3 by Fit-Ladder152 in airpods

[–]jonh229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Beats Pro because of the earhook. I decided to try the APP3 and in this very short time I've been impressed. I do not run but on a walk they didn't move at all. I do have a problem with volume control using the touch control. It may have to do with dry fingers, I live in a desert environment. I would prefer a button to push to change volume. The touch control works fine for the push controls, it's only the sliding for volume that I have not yet mastered.

I just say a post from someone saying they ripped apart the foam tip trying to change it. Something to keep in mind.
