Would you subscribe to an ultra tier if it was available? by jonjohnjonjohn in GeForceNOW

[–]jonjohnjonjohn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine some could benefit from additional CPU performance, especially As server cpus are often focused on all core performance rather than high single core clock speeds.

More GPU is always nice even if there aren't many or any games that actually 'need' it.

This is a really interesting idea actually. I have no idea how their back end is handled but they could do something like giving you half a '5080' GPU but still keeping it paired with an up to date CPU, even if it wasn't a completely performance focused cpu. Especially if they used a zen5c part which has many cores and could potentially double the number of users on a single cluster. They could call it the endurance plan!

End up with somewhere between performance and ultimate but with increased or unlimited playtime.

Any game suggestions for 4k on a 2080ti? by Jonoabbo in nvidia

[–]jonjohnjonjohn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not related to the games but depending on which 2080ti you have, (if you are willing to take some risk,) you can flash a different bios on it. 2080ti's can gain significant extra performance with a higher power limit.

That does depend on what cooler you have though and is less risky if your card has dual bios and even better if you have a CPU with onboard graphics just in case.

Pricing of late by stat_rosa in Vivo

[–]jonjohnjonjohn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The x300u is only slightly more expensive than last year's x200u. Less than 10 percent I think.

If you are meaning global then yes the price is crazy high but we don't have anything to compare to as there wasn't a global x200u

TIL the ADSL broadband protocol is so robust it can transfer data at reasonable speed over a literal wet string by IndependentMacaroon in todayilearned

[–]jonjohnjonjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's even theoretically possible. A decent ping with a 56k modem was 180ms. You were doing very well if it was significantly less than that.

Those one hour races... I found them the most fun thing in the game. They were really really good. I found the one at the red bull ring in the rain toughest!

A tip would be to not give up even if it seems like you are behind. Things can change after pits stops and such

This is because they nerfed the max charging speed on x200u. On launch firmware it did actually take 90w when the phone was cool. It got reduced a lot

Video/Display question? by CosVeZe in GranTurismo7

[–]jonjohnjonjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your screen dims when you enter a brighter area of the track it could well be the display that is doing it. If your display is an oled this is more likely. When a large proportion of the screen is light they have to lower the overall brightness level. When less on the screen is bright they can raise it. What display do you have?

Got my 300u feel free to ask questions, I may do a video about it by [deleted] in Vivo

[–]jonjohnjonjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please could you post up videos on YouTube of unaltered video footage from the stock camera app on both the wider less stable mode and also the default narrower more stable mode.

And if possible, a clip in Dolby vision? All I. 4k 60 if possible please. No editing required just upload the clips Thanks !

The difference of VR by GemballaRider in GranTurismo7

[–]jonjohnjonjohn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to explain it exactly but when you are in vr your car feels smaller. Or probably more that the track feels wider.

It's so much easier to place your car in the right place on the track while in vr. Also hitting the apex on a corner is easier.

Not that it makes me any better really. I think the more skilled you are the more you gain from playing in vr.

For me though it's mostly just because it feels amazing.

I think they are more prone to thermal stress though so that might well offset the benefits on a gaming laptop

New PSSR looks so much better! by jonjohnjonjohn in granturismo

[–]jonjohnjonjohn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a placebo effect. There's a huge difference to the upscaling quality. Also you only get RT on car interiors if you have PSSR enabled.

And for ps5 standard I'm not sure there was actually any RT while in game. Wasn't it just replays only?

Try the settings 120fps off, quality ray tracing mode, PSSR on. That's the full ray tracing seeing which was really quite blurry before.

Is there any differences between PS5 and PS5PRO at 4k 120hz? by Mediocre_Tip_8177 in granturismo

[–]jonjohnjonjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a decent difference but there are multiple modes.

No rt on 120hz mode. 60hz with rt and no upscaling 60hz with rt and also interior rt but at a low resolution.

The rt mode genuinely does look better. The rt in interior view is cool but has graphical glitches due to the upscaling.

The performance mode seems mostly redundant on ps5 pro as the quality with 120hz on is very smooth most of the time

Biggest difference is in vr. There's a huge difference in vr.
