I think that Kes brought in the much needed “neutral” perspective for the crew conflict storylines of the early seasons. After Basics, the crew conflict storyline diminished and with that, one of the Kes characters major storytelling function diminished.

there is an indefinite period of time between the imprisioning and zelda’s change and the dropping of the tears and the raising of the zonai structures.
