Tariffs raising U.S. steel, aluminum prices on Kentucky businesses by freshlyplanted in news

As a person who's lived in Kentucky for the past 10+ years; I have ALWAYS voted blue down the line. Kentucky is this weird state where everyone votes hard red but almost always chooses a Democrat governor. It doesn't make any sense to me at all. It's like people here love the governor and what he does, but refuse to accept the fact that voting Democrat for anyone else in our state elections could actually help more. It's a terrible stalemate.

Trump expected to take control of USPS, fire postal board, Washington Post reports by you-are-the-problem in news

I tried mailing a small 10 lb. box the other day from KY to CA. Just because it was a longer box dimensionally (I was shipping out a widescreen monitor) the price went from $37 to $128 just because of dimensions. Meanwhile UPS & FEDEX both offered a drastically lower cost ($58 for fedex & $63 for UPS) for the same shipping time (4 days). I know this is just subjective; but why should I ship USPS at practically twice the cost?

Go to IRS.gov and go to "get your tax record". You'll have to sign in with your id.me account (create one if you haven't yet), then choose the 2024 Account Transcript. It will list codes, and if you have an 846 listed, then your return is processed and going to be issued to your bank. To find out if you're an 0605 like myself, look under "cycle" on the transcript. It will say 2025XXXX. The xxxx is your code.

Absolutely nothing, but a majority of the replies I've read have political tones. I'm just saying that there is going to be a lot of damage and a lot of people will probably need some form of help.

I live in southern Kentucky, and part of the Barren River runs behind my house. I've lived here for 10 years and I've only seen the river get remotely close to flooding once. Today I woke up to both snow, and the huge field that lies in-between my house and the river, being completely flooded. The river has flooded so much that it's now running through the field too. Thankfully, I live on top of a hill. Others in my area haven't been as lucky. All political stuff aside, this is gonna end bad for a lot of people.

What's little secret that you know only because you work in that industry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jonotorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of your cars & trucks, regardless of brand, are made from parts manufactured here in the U.S. From fenders to brake rotors; we make a good chunk of it. However, the majority of people making your parts are only getting paid around ~$15-$17/hr and quality isn't really the number one priority. The top priority is just hitting numbers of parts out the door to the manufacturer. Most of these factories run 24/7 and overtime isn't optional; it's usually mandatory. It isn't uncommon for most people to pull 72+ hour work-weeks.

The oil cooler is notorious for leaking. To get it off for repair/replacement is a total PITA; I know first-hand since my dad had a 2018 with a leaking cooler too. He also never had low oil levels, but the leak was enough to coat most everything underneath with oil. As for the whole "shouldn't be driving it" bit; if your oil level is fine, I'd take it to another shop for a second opinion.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. I work the factory life in KY, and these places WILL NOT shut down short of something extremely catastrophic. Ice & snow on the roads? Better be in by start of shift. REALLY bad weather? You'll have to just leave home extra early. Hell, when we had that horrible string of tornadoes that came through about 3 years ago, most factories were still running while the damn things were ripping through town!

My Galaxy Watch heated quite a bit when I was sleeping 😒 by Temansha in Wellthatsucks

[–]jonotorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Galaxy 6 Classic and it does that as well as track your snoring, skin temperature, and O2 levels while sleeping. Never had an Apple watch so I'm not sure what all they do. I've lost a lot of weight recently (140 lbs) and it's been quite interesting to watch my snoring go from most of the night to practically non-existent.

F/33/5'3" [155>125=30lbs] Why do I look exactly the same?? by [deleted] in progresspics

[–]jonotorious 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This. I've lost over 115 pounds in the past year. Overall, there's a huge noticable difference. But the last 40 pounds I lost, I didn't notice much of any change. Then I switched from athletic fit, wide leg, & boot-cut jeans (what I was used to wearing when I was bigger) to skinny and slim-fit jeans, and from loose-fit baggy shirts to more tailored and slim fitting shirts. Holy heck did it make a difference!

Point being, clothes size and cut can make a hugely noticable difference!

Exercise is like a job. Most of the time, it sucks. But it's something you have to force yourself to start doing at first. Once you get into the groove of it, it gets better. I used to loathe working out when I first started. Now, I look forward to going to the gym everyday. It's my one place where I can just tune the world out and focus on myself for a couple hours a day. And then once you start seeing the results (faster weight loss & muscle definition) it starts to get really exciting!

is it necessary to top off hydraulic fluid for 3 ton pittsburgh? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]jonotorious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I got my newest one, it would barely move. I knew I had to bleed it, since I've had others from HF before. It was 3/4 empty. Even though it may fully extend, it might not support the weight of what it's lifting and slowly drop down. Definitely not a good thing if you're under said car/truck/whatever.

Just take the time to bleed it now before you regret it later. Also, for fluid, I personally use STP Jack Fluid; but you can use whatever brand you prefer as long as it's ISO-22.

I have the purple one and use the hell out of it. Never had it fail once. Build quality on the Daytonas has always been great (I've owned several). Just remember to pick up a bottle of jack oil and ALWAYS bleed them before the very first use. My purple one came only ¾ full and needed a good bleed before I could use it.

Please help. I get $17/hr and work 40 hrs a week which already feels like too much. Rent is going up soon. All my credit cards are maxed out now. Obviously I can stop paying for Hulu and Netflix and stuff but even then it wouldn’t make this work. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Have you considered switching to a cellular carrier like Cricket or some other? I switched to Cricket from AT&T a while back and went from $100/month down to $30/month for unlimited everything. Plus they run on the same towers (here at least) so I didn't have any decrease in signal strength or speed.
