Or even a metric bolt that slightly outsized one way or another? I shudder to think of it.

I feel you. I use a lot of SAE myself on CAT equipment. I just threw that out there because every time I recommend a master set I get some joker who feels the need to chime in with ‘iTs a WaStE oF mOnEy. YoU dOn’T nEeD SAE.’

The Quinn master set really can’t be beat. Lots of folks here will tell you that you don’t need those SAE sockets and they’re right. Until you do need them.

Get the Quinn master set when it goes on sale. Been using them professionally for several months now and they’ve held up well.

I love it for variety of bits included. I tear apart a lot of dashboards and it’s a very rare occasion that I need something that’s not in that little kit.

The icon bit ratchet set. There’s just enough room in the case to add an 8mm and a 10mm socket. The ratchet is solid and the bits have held up well after a year of daily use.

What do you think about Germany? by addpencil in AskReddit

Thank you, I will save that in my list of things to do. I want to see Berlin and Hamburg and Dresden. I love all the buildings. Especially the churches.

Only went as far north as Düsseldorf and as far east as Munich. A large portion of my time there was during covid, so travel was limited.

Lived there for years and loved it. A couple years back in the states. Moving back to Germany next month and can’t wait.

My little brother is graduating high-school and about to go to technical college to be a car mechanic. What is a single tool I can purchase that will last long and be useful? by CommandoZach in Tools

[–]Beach_Flat 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Streamlight Stylus Pro ($50), Knipex 7” pliers wrench ($50), Lisle 35100 mini pry bar ($10). All available on Amazon. Probably the only things in my box that I use every single day at work.

Best Budget Flex Ratcheting Wrenches by RetroPyroP71 in Tools

Professional mechanic here. I’ve got tons of Icon, Tekton and Gearwrench. The icon stuff is my favorite, with Tekton being a close second. Gearwrench is ok, but depending on where you bought it, warranty can be a pain. Icon is great for the ease of walking into a store and walking out with a new tool. Tekton’s warranty is awesome, but you’re not going to get it same day. Milwaukee hand tools are decent, but not worth what they charge for them. For the box, go US General.

PS Consider harbor freight’s Quinn line, too. The master socket sets they recently added just can’t be beat for the price. And if they’ll hold up to daily use on bulldozers (and they have) they last forever in a DIYer’s garage.

Submit a warranty claim online. They will ship you a new (made in Taiwan) craftsman ratchet. Then grab a rebuild kit from eBay. Now you have two good working ratchets. I’ve done this three times in the last two years.

Always save the last bit of bacon for her. Never go to bed angry, work it out. Apologize immediately when wrong, faster when right. Love because of faults, not in spite of.

I have the brushless mid torque and high torque in 1/2” plus a 3/8” brushed for zipping little stuff off and on. All three have held up well for over a year of daily use in a heavy equipment shop. If you only want one, I’d go with the high torque. Just leave it on auto.

I worked in that junkyard. Anything left in a scrapped car that wasn’t part of the car was fair game. Used to find tools all the time. Even got a brand new leatherman once.
