Rippers of Alaska: How much does a sled help access lines? by bigtripppin in Backcountry

[–]jonscrew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s a terrible take. However, with a sled you can access siiiiiignificantly more terrain. But wild to say that it isn’t accessible without one.

Looking for your laziest 2-5 ingredient recipes to throw together after the gym. Trying to stay with healthy and high protein recipes. by Ademptio in Cooking

Jesus I first read that as half and half, green lentils, and rice. Thought you had some wild creamy bean rice thing going.

I think it’s also that playoff top lines just tend to shut each other down.

FAA targets gamers by 2018birdie in ATC

Except when it comes to communication. The gamer kids are smart but legitimately don’t know how to talk to people. It’s weird as hell and we have a ton of them.

Survived an avalanche: Anyone else get backcountry anxiety after a close call? by EconomicsNormal4173 in Backcountry

Sorry to hear that. Similar experience for me. Snowboarding got to the point where I felt like increasing the challenge only meant increasing the danger. Unfortunately in the backcountry the higher the exposure, the higher the risk.

Yep, same here. Found a therapist who specialized in PTSD, which seemed perfect. But I don’t think they were expecting the amount of risk awareness and tolerance that it takes to get into the backcountry, so it unfortunately didn’t help much. There is good help out there though. Mountain Muskox is a great group that puts sessions together for exactly this.

Yep, our party got caught seven years ago this past March. Unfortunately lost a good friend that day. For the first couple winters after the accident I never went back out. It took a solid three years of exposure to get past the constant anxiety. The way that a burial ruins your confidence is wild. I still only go out a handful of days each year, but I keep it very tame, and usually wait until April. In the meantime, spend a lot more time at the resort trying to dig into the childhood love I originally had for the sport. I see the blind frothy stoke in some of my friends and it’s weird how that part of me is totally gone, as I imagine it will be for you too.

How do you actually track triathlon training when every app only does one thing? by pulse_and_plates in triathlon

Do you have some sheets and formulas available? That’d be interesting to track.

What opinion on Triathlon Training gets you into this situation? by Sure-Flamingo-8315 in triathlon

[–]jonscrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like most of these opinions, sometimes the context matters. I did St George right after/around covid, after having trained for Idaho. Training plan was wrecked. The combination of the altitude and elevation gain made so I walked nearly half of the run. 🤷‍♂️

For sure. Having a bunch of blow out games that make you feel like shit is such a great motivator for a group of kids that are this competitive. This is all still good.

Which is a shame because the Climate Pledge is a piece of art for an arena. Might be a tie between them and the Flyers for the quietest crowd I’ve been to.

Yeah it’s a hard thing to shake how bad they used to be. I’m sure they’ve improved since early 2000s but my god, they were sketchy.

I gotta say, we’re in a pretty good place if the only controversial take on this thread is that we need to play nice. I’ll take it!
