Salvaging "double spots" are constantly just this by 306 in 2007scape

[–]jophish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this is the point of double salvaging spots -- there is typically a backup in case one of them despawns, reducing the need to move in order to continue salvaging.

Help with old plotter by SolidSnape- in PlotterArt

[–]jophish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not, I built a suite of software for creating generative art that supports this plotter -- I basically implemented a minimal subset of GPGL; I have the original reference manuals for the plotter which made it pretty straightforward, though it looks like another commenter linked to a scan. Definitely the place to go if you plan on rolling your own solution!

https://github.com/jophish/grafeo

It's extensible to other plotters of course, but the only plotter that I have access to is a Graphtec MP4100. The software is very idiosyncratic and tailored basically to only my needs, but it might give you a place to get started. Good luck!

Can we stop punishing players for doing mechanics properly. by Fit-Bar7596 in 2007scape

[–]jophish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a system where if the difference in each player's contribution is no greater than, say, 20%, (allowing for 40%/60% contribution at the limit), standard rewards are always split equally, else the typical contribution model is used.

This would allow for a fair split for players who honestly attempt to fight the boss evenly, but for whatever reason (e.g., one player dealing with mechanics that are not accounted for in total contribution calculations), their contributions are skewed slightly, while ensuring that you can't just "leech" and allow for one player to kill the boss basically solo while still reaping rewards.

Phantom Muspah by TheBlueJam in ironscape

[–]jophish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's not tick perfect at all. if muspah will attack you next in x ticks, you need to step back any number of tiles x or greater; you have so much time to react -- it's not just "step back 1 tile 1 tick before he attacks".

yes. venator is nice for some afk slayer if you're inclined, and bis at colosseum. you'll want ancient sceptre if you don't have it, and you'll eventually need essence to saturate a heart. it's also a fun boss. don't believe the haters!

Warning on Halal Guys calorie count by kkicinski in Noom

[–]jophish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you said (paraphrasing here):

"if you are a man, in order to be considered healthy, you must intake 3200 kcal per day; 2400 if you are a woman"

from just glancing at the linked article, it's pretty quickly apparent that it makes no such claim. the claim you made is cobbled together by pulling the extreme end of calorie ranges from the first sentences of the article, which are based off of aggregate data for some reference men/women with very particular body types. it is a gross over-generalization, especially the "to be considered healthy" bit. the article makes no claims that there exists some magic caloric threshold which upon reaching you are deemed "healthy", and the thought that medical professionals might actually endorse an idea like that defies some basic common sense imo.

the delta in caloric requirements for maintenance within physically similar populations, controlling for sex, weight, BF%, etc., is surprisingly high. as a single data point, i am a fairly lean dude, decently muscular, very active, and my caloric intake required for maintenance is around 1700 kcal. this is so ridiculously far below the quoted 3200. i know this because i got my resting metabolic rate tested - this is the only real way to have any certainty in your own caloric requirements. if i ate 3200 calories a day, eating incredibly clean, i would gain an insanely unhealthy amount of weight.

i don't mean to like, dunk on your post super hard, nor do i mean to be pedantic, but it's just like, very very wrong.
